Waste challenges

Page 3: MSW solid waste management

Main advantages:

Excellent for treating the biodegradable organics of the waste.

Moisture in the input is a blessing.

A natural way, with very low emissions, if at all.

Available Mechanical Biological Treatments

Dry separation + Aerobic composting (Composting).

Dry separation + Anaerobic Digestion (AD).

Main problems:

The non-biodegradable materials must be fully pre-sorted.

If not – The output of the biological treatment is contaminated and unusable.

3

Biological Treatment

MAIN UNSOLVED PROBLEM: HOW TO SEPARATE AND TREAT THE BIODEGRADABLE ORGANICS ?

Technological Brief Separation Process

• Unique Hydro mechanical Separation

• Clean Organic to AD process

• Use of materials for recycling

Anaerobic treatment

• A two stage fast anaerobic process

• Mesophilic process .

• 97% of water are recycled.

• Production of Biogas and Electricity

Page 11: MSW solid waste management

Send only 20%-30% of the waste to Landfill (mainly inert residues)

Substantially increase recycling percentages (70%+)

90%-95% of materials are separated

Minimize pollution of Landfills and Incinerators

Competitive waste treatment costs

Produce renewable electricity & high quality digestate

Become Environmental leaders

Create new green jobs

Biogas content ~ 60% - 70% Methane

100 m3 biogas / ton organic MSW @ 60% Methane

Heating value ~ 0.24 MWhr / ton of organic MSW

Electricity Generation ~ 90 kWhr / ton of organic MSW

CNG ~ 5.5 m3 biogas = 1 GGE – Gallon of Gasoline Equivalent
