This two-year MSc programme o ers a unique blend o academiceducation in international relations and political science with prac-tical graduate education and training in international negotiationand diplomacy. The programme is o ered jointly by the Institute o Political Science o Leiden University and the prestigious NetherlandsInstitute o International Relations Clingendael in the Hague.

Clingendaels objective is to promote the understanding o interna-tional a airs and the institute devotes special attention to Europeanco-operation, international security, and diplomacy.

Students attend core courses in the elds o international relationsand political science. They also take quantitative and qualitativemethodological courses. Furthermore students are provided withspecialised knowledge and hands-on experience in the area o diplo-macy and international organisation, and insights into the actualpractice o international negotiation and diplomacy.

In the IRD programme students have the opportunity o completingan internship at an international organisation (or attend additionalspecialised courses). The programmes internship co-ordinator canassist students in nding suitable internships. The programme isconcluded with the writing o your masters thesis on a topic in inter-national relations, international organisation or diplomacy.

Due to the wide range o courses attended, analytical and researchskills, the masters thesis, possible internship experience, and contactwith experts in relevant elds, at the end o this programme studentspossess a high level o academic training and speci c expertise ininternational relations, including international organisation, confictresolution, and diplomacy.

Graduates o this programme are well prepared or careers in interna-tional governmental and non-governmental organisations, internationaldiplomacy, national or international public administrations, thinktanks and research institutions, international interest associationsor international business.The MSc programme also aims to allow students to opt or con tinuedacademic research or advanced research in a pro essional setting.
