Homework• The format of Grade 2 homework emphasizes
meaningful skills practice. • A Homework Recording Sheet will be sent
home each Monday and should be returned completed by Friday.
• Students are expected to read/be read to for 15 to 20 minutes daily and to record the number of minutes read.
• They are expected to play Math games to practice skills and record which game was played. (Instructions for Math games will periodically come home.)
• The Recording Sheet also lists three word wall words (trick words) and seven phonics unit words for the week. On the back will often be a letter to explain the phonics lesson of the week. Students are expected to practice these words to gain mastery.
Less mandatory homework.
More choices.
Emphasis on reading
and math skills.
Additional Information
Home/School Folders These folders go home every afternoon with important
notices. Please empty and return folders each day. Use folders for correspondences with teachers as well.
Open DoorOn Friday afternoons, students have Open Door. This is 30 minutes of free play where they can socialize with their second grade peers. This time is earned for respectful and responsible behavior throughout the week.
BirthdaysBirthdays are celebrated in school with students choosing ten minutes
of free play, in-class games, or iPad time. No food is allowed as part of birthday celebrations.
SnacksStudents should come to school each day with a healthy snack.
Although we don’t require that snacks be nut-free, families should be aware that there are some students with severe food allergies. To ensure everyone’s safety and well being, please take this into consideration when selecting school snacks
Chaperoning and Cori Forms We will need parents to chaperone school field trips later in the year.
In order to chaperone (as well as help out at Bishop in numerous ways), parents need to complete a Cori form, available in the office. Please complete one as soon as possible if you are interested in chaperoning this year.
