    Vaccine: Vaxigrip (Sanofi-Pasteur)

Influenza, commonly known as ‘flu’ or ‘trangkaso’ is

caused by the influenza virus, and is easily transmit-

ted through our hands or the air we breathe.

To be protected against influenza you should get

the flu shot annually because the circulating strains

of the influenza virus change each year, hence the

composition of the vaccine is updated annually. Fortropical countries the flu is present year–round with

peaks during the months of July until September.

Everyone with a valid ISM ID, teachers and their

children may participate in this vaccination session.

Please complete the vaccination payment form

(available at the Cashier office and the Clinic) and

make your payment to the Cashier. Payment must

be made not later than Thursday, May 21. The vac-cines will then be ordered and no further registra-

    tions can be accepted.

Form per person (for download from the ISM web-

    site, https://drive.google.com/file/

usp=sharing or at the clinic) and present both docu-

    ments on the vaccination date.

If you have any questions please contact JowellCustodio or Dorothee Binsfeld at the clinic:

    Clinic numbers: 840 8581 (Dorothee)/82 (Jowell)

    Clinic email: [email protected]

    Please note:

Influenza and Tetanus (Tdap) vaccines can be

    given simultaneously.

Influenza virus shots do not protect against

common cold, sometimes also referred to as“flu”.

The minimum age for the vaccination in school is

3 years. Infants 6 month and older may be vac-

    cinated by their pediatrician.

Children (9 years or younger) with no prior flu

shot will need a second shot after 28 days.

Pregnant women should get their shot from the

    second trimester onwards.

The “Southern hemisphere vaccine”, which we

apply, covers all relevant strains of the North-

ern hemisphere as well. Please refrain in case of egg protein allergy.

Vaccines will be solely administered at the clinic

and cannot be handed out. All unused vaccines

    will be forfeited.

    Tetanus (Lockjaw) Vaccinaon

Tetanus (Lockjaw) is caused by the Clostridium Bac-

terium. Their spores are resistant permanent forms

which are found worldwide in garden soil or dust.

The disease causes painful ghtening of the mus-

cles, usually all over the body. It can lead to "locking"

of the jaw so the vicm cannot open his mouth or

swallow. Tetanus leads to death in 50% or more of all

    cases.

As a teen or adult, do I need this vaccine?

Everyone needs protecon from tetanus. If youhave not had a booster shot in 10 years or more, you

should receive a tetanus shot. However, you should

get the Tdap vaccine (the tetanus booster that also

protects against pertussis) as soon as possible if you

have not yet received it. You can get Tdap no maer

when you last got a Td booster shot.

It is good pracce and clinic roune to give a boost-

er shot without delay aer the slightest scratch ac-

quired outdoor, if the person is not protected. This

can be quite disrupve if travelling. Smaller hospitals

outside the NCR oen do not carry the vaccine.

With any medicine, including vaccines, there is a

chance of side eects. These are usually mild and go

away on their own. Serious reacons are also possible

    but are rare.

Sign up for the 2015 vaccinaons: Tetanus (Tdap)

    Vaccine ADACEL (Sano-Pasteur)

    Cost: 1,000.00 Php

Vaccinaon Day – Wednesday, May 27

Last day to sign up/pay – Thursday, May 21

To be protected against tetanus it needs a booster

every 10 years, aer compleng a series of 5 shots

during childhood. You should get the Tdap vaccine

(the tetanus booster that also protects against pertus-

sis) in any case as soon as possible if you have not yet

    received it.

Everyone with a valid ISM ID, teachers and their chil-

dren may parcipate in this vaccinaon session.

Please complete the vaccinaon payment form

(available at the Cashier oce and the Clinic) andmake your payment to the Cashier (open Mo – Fr

22nd. PowerSchool closes on that date, and our assumpon will be that a student who has not registered by then is leaving at the end

of the school year. We have many applicants at every Grade level on our Waing List, and on May 25th we shall begin the process of

oering all available slots. As I am sure you understand, for those people relocang to the Philippines, their plans are on hold unless

and unl they have guaranteed places in school for their children.

If you know already that you are deparng in June, please inform Admissions of this as soon as possible. By doing so, you are making

life much easier for incoming families. The deadline for informing us of your planned departure is May 22nd. Please note that past

pracce is that those who let us know they are leaving aer this date will forfeit $1000 of their Facilies Upgrade Deposit.

The school year is galloping toward the nishing line, and we are looking forward to examinaons, performances and graduaons. I

hope these next seven weeks bring your children all that they hope for.

    Best wishes,
