If your plan—your personal business

plan—is to make a mark in the investment

field, we have just the program to help you

succeed.

The Boston University MS in Investment

Management (MSIM) is designed by finance

faculty and investment professionals who

understand advanced financial techniques

and the actual practice of investment man-

agement. They’re experienced in developing

the science of investment technology and

applying the art of investment strategy.

The MSIM program gives you a broad

understanding of the financial markets,

teaches you techniques for evaluating com-

panies in depth, and provides opportunities

for crafting advanced investment strategies.

Your coursework combines a solid

grounding in the metrics, teaching you how

to quantitatively evaluate the facts before

you. You’ll also learn the subtleties of equity

analysis and the softer skills of creative

thinking, teamwork and presenting your rec-

ommendations. Plus you’ll master statistics,

learn how to crunch the data and hear from

over a dozen professionals who actually

manage money, not just talk about it.

Working with real data, real companies,

and real money (in our Student Investment

Fund), you’ll experience the day-to-day

researching, fact-checking, and decision-

making that professionals find so rewarding.

You’ll also experience some of the pres-

sure—with only a little of the peril.

Most importantly, you’ll graduate with

a well-earned sense of confidence and

familiarity with the investment world.

If your career path includes taking the

Chartered Financial Analyst® examinations,

you’re in great hands. The Boston University

MSIM is unique in the United States:

it’s the first graduate program designated

as a CFA Partner Program.

If your plan is to set yourself apart from

the competition, plan on the MSIM.

MASTER OF SCIENCE IN

INVESTMENT MANAGEMENT

Your first investment: yourself.

career, including founding and leading a $45 billion global investment

team at Fidelity Investments. A PhD graduate of Cornell University,

he remains active in investing and conducts academic research

on institutional investors, financial technology and portfolio

management. Scott teaches the two MSIM portfolio

management courses.

“Every day I work as an investment analyst, supporting

five portfolio managers together managing $100 billion in

asset allocation funds. It’s an amazing experience working

with this group of high caliber professionals. I wouldn’t

have this job if I hadn’t completed the MSIM program.”

The Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA®)

certification is a professional designation

awarded by CFA Institute. The professional

investment community recognizes the value

of the CFA certification to support hiring and

promotion decisions. As a CFA Program

Partner, Boston University is formally recog-

nized as providing comprehensive coverage

of the CFA Body of Knowledge.TM

Students who wish to pursue CFA certifi-

cation prepare to take the CFA Level I exam

after their first or third semester, Level II the

following spring and Level III the following

year. MSIM supports students pursuing the

CFA charter through effective course cover-

age and optional preparatory programs.

You can’t get this education in a general

MBA or MSF program. With the MSIM equity

fund experience, portfolio management case

studies, and CFA® curriculum, the investment

community will benefit from your special

commitment to the investment business.

MSIM at Boston University is the first graduate program

in the U.S. designated a CFA® Program Partner

“The finance faculty here

all bring their research and

consulting experiences right

into the classroom. So our

students are exposed to cut-

ting edge ideas every day.”

Don Smith

Associate Professor

MSIM Coursework

and Faculty

All students follow the exact same curriculum and

sequence, providing the opportunity to form study groups,

and assuring the development of a close, professional net-

work. Two examples of the coursework follow.

Equity Analysis: MSIM students have called this course

one of the most challenging, frustrating…and rewarding in

the program. Much like an investment research depart-

ment, the course requires students to complete an in depth

“industry review,” documenting valuation criteria and earn-

ings drivers, before tackling a detailed stock analysis.

Investment Product Design and Management: A case-

oriented course, it requires students to solve multi-faceted

investment problems using their MSIM skill set. Inspiring

the development of a forthcoming textbook by faculty direc-

tor Scott Stewart and advisory board members Chris Piros

and Jeff Heisler, the course introduces students to the com-

plexity of effectively applying advanced techniques to real

investment situations.

• Classes begin in January and finish in May of the following year

• Classes meet Tuesday evening each week, and alternate Saturdays

• Two full-time residence weeks begin and end the program

• MSIM is tailored for the working professional

■ Books, parking, and materials are all provided

■ A small cohort of students moves through the program together
