Due to personal reasons , Mrs. Genevieve M. Silberman has resigned as Chairman of The Alan H. Cummings Scholar's Weekend Committee . We are pleased that Mrs. Ma rj or ie Lynn, wi f e o f Temple President Dr. Richard A. Lynn, has g r aciously accepted the Chair manship .
The Adult Education Committee is honored that you have agreed to be our Scholar-in- Residence. The program will run from Friday evening, January 23rd, through Sunday, early afternoon, January 25th .
We have made reservations for you, and hopefully for Mrs. Tanenbaum, at the Heart Of Palm Beach Hotel, 160 Royal Palm Way, Palm Beach from January 23, through the 25th. If you would like to arrive a day earlier, we would be pleased to provide hospitality as well .
We would appreciate your sending your flight schedule so that we can make c ertain that ho tel transport a ti oD arrangements can be made.
Your participation in the Alan H. Cummings Scholar's weekend program will be as follows:
1. Friday evening services, your first lecture in the Sanctuary ; approximately 30- 40 minutes One9 Shabbat will follow.

2. Shabbat morning service, you will comment on the Torah portion.
3. At the completion of the Shabbat Service, a luncheon will be served. After lunch, your second lecture will be delivered, approximately 45 minutes to one hour .
4. On Satur day evening, a Patron ' s Reception in your honor wi~l be held a t the Bi ltmora ' s Fiesta Room. After the Havdalah Service and refreshments, you will conduct a dialogue, in an informal setting, for approxima tely 20- 30 minutes.
5 . A brief Sunday morning worship service will be followed by breakfast . After breakfast, you will deliver your third and closing lecture, approx i mately 45 minutes to one hour .
In summary, you will deliver three lectures, one Torah portion commentary, and lead one dialogue . Our brochure, copy enclosed, has listed your umbrella theme as "Jewish Unity - Threats and Challenges." For both the flyer and the program, we respectfully request that you send us the title for each of the three lectures. I have enclosed samples of last year's flyer and program for your information. Rabbi Joel Chazin, Cantor David Feuer, Mrs. Marjorie Lynn and the members of the Adult Education Committee are really excited, and look forward with great anticipation to your visit. This letter will confirm your appearance at Temple Emanu-El , in Palm Beach, Florida, on January 23d, 24th , and 25th, 1987, as our Schol ar in residence.
As Bet forth in our previous conversation, the fee will be $3,000, to include lodging and meals.
The weekend activities begin at Fr iday evening services , where you will make your initia l presentation , in lieu of the Rabbi's sermon. On Saturday morning , some of our previous scholars have disdussed the Torah portion of the week , inasmuch as the second pres entation is made at the luncheon session , fo l lowing ser vices . Actually , our committee has not as yet met to dis cuss the format , but that will be the time for your second presentation . A rece ption for subscr ibers is held Sa turday evening, beginning wi th Havdalah , at which time an informal question and answer period has formerly been beld . Following the Shah.rit service on Sunday morning , a brunch is scheduled , when the final and SUMmarizing presentation is made .
The brochure which you enclosed, cir cling topics of a previous seminar , lists an overall topic, IIJEWISH UNITY-- TRREATS AND CHALJ....to.~GESII , and two other topics ba6ed on the above . We will require the third pre sen. tation for Sunday morning , s o we would appreciate your giving that some thought and then informing UB , for future pUblicity .
