count against them for perfect attendance.• We submit my attendance at 10:00 am daily.• Please be on time and present every day.• If a student is returning from an absence/doctor’s appt., please

send a written note for the absence to be considered excused.• When writing an excuse note you must include the child’s name,

Dismissal • Please try not to change your child’s transportation unless it

is an EMERGENCY. It’s hard for kids to remember when parents are changing the way they go home frequently.

• Please do not e-mail changes of transportation. It is best to call the office by 2:00 p.m. or sooner if there is a change of transportation.

• Morning and afternoon drop off/pick up: Please remember to exit quickly, your child will be opening and closing their own car doors. When getting in the car, if you need to buckle in your child, please pull up. We have a designated area called the “buckle up zone”

• If your child is a car rider please do not arrive before 3:15, the gate by the track opens at 3:00 daily.

Page 15: Mrs. Rogers’

Stacking Lane Slide

Do not enter the stacking lane from 2351. There is no left turn into the stacking lane. This causes a traffic jam. Do not arrive prior to 3:05. Dismissal is at 3:15 this year. We cannot block the flow of traffic on Rustic Lane. Do not block parking lot entrance so our buses can get into our parking lot. Please make sure your car rider sign is written in large black sharpie print so Mrs. Golden can easily read it from your car. Car rider signs can be located on our Rustic Oak Webpage.

of their Lang. Arts grade.

• The other 90% of their grade will be coming from their Grammar skills.

• Note: I will be using a Spelling Spiral this year and students will take their spelling tests in the spiral weekly.

• The spirals will be sent home every Friday with their weekly folder. If the child makes below a 70, I will require a parent signature.

Device Expectations• Please have your child plug in his or her device every night

to ensure it is fully charged and ready for each day.

• If you ordered EPI PTA supplies, their supplies came with earbuds; however, if your child prefers headphones, you may send those to school.

• If you purchased school supplies separately for your child, you will need to send in headphones for them to use.

• Your child must have a laptop device, if you did not register for one on Skyward you may still do so by letting the office know if you would like.

Page 29: Mrs. Rogers’

BAS (Reading Level)• This year we have a Reading level assessment system called BAS (Benchmark

Assessment System)

• On the Report Card, there is a section for your child’s BAS Reading level.

• When your child enters 2nd grade they should be reading at J BAS Level.

• By the end of 2nd grade they should be at a level M. (If they are higher than a level M, like an N, it's not a bad thing and it doesn't mean that your child needs improvement.)

• We understand that your child might not be at the level where they are supposed to be at right now.

• We will be working diligently with them as well as asking for your help at home to make sure they are reading as much as possible.

• You will see their Reading levels each 9 weeks on their Report Cards, typically in 2nd

grade the students do not move up levels as quickly as students do in 1st grade.

• In 2nd grade we are focused more on comprehension and making sure the child is understanding what they are reading before moving up a reading level.

• If you ever have questions about your child’s reading level please feel free to ask me at any time.

Page 30: Mrs. Rogers’

Accelerated Reading Program

• Accelerated Reading program- students can access this program at home now too. This is a great program that encourages and promotes a healthy love of Reading.

• We set a goal every 9 weeks for our students to meet. If students reach their AR Goal at the end of each 9 weeks they will get a certificate and a treat from me.

• At the end of the year, if students reach their AR Goal each grading period then they will receive a medal from the librarian.

• This program may also be accessed at home.
