Classroom ManagementClassDojo

Each Friday the students will receive Hoeflinger Bucks in the amount of their Dojo points. This money can be spent at the Third Grade Market Days throughout

the year.Our class market days are December 5 and May

1.We will be ATTENDING market days at other

times.

Homework

• Homework is usually given 4 days a week. (Mon.-Thursday) No homework will be given on Fridays. Please monitor your student as they solidify their learning through practice.

• Homework will be recorded in their agendas. • I will collect each day’s homework on the following day.

Homework is given daily. (occasionally a packet ) • I will check and review their homework. • If they struggle with a certain portion of the homework, please

write me a note on the homework sheet or email me. • Your child has a homework folder in their binder.

Reading At HomeRead at least 20 minutes and answer at least 6 questions from the

“Response to Reading” question bank by Friday.

Responses will be turned in each Friday. Must be in complete sentences. This is an important skill.

Accelerated Reader

• Your student will have a monthly goal of 2 AR books.• Students will be given a reading range. They are to find

books within this range to read and test on. To meet their goal, students should score at least 80% on the test they take. The computer will keep up with their points. I will send home a printed report that informs you of your child’s quiz scores, books read, and other important information. Please read these reports.

• STAR tests will be given soon and we will send home results for reading levels.

Thursday Folder

• Your student will bring home a red folder every Thursday. This is the weekly school courier. Important information about school policies, PTA functions, activities, and all administrative letters will be placed inside. Please read everything and discard the items that you will not need. Also, I will place graded papers there for you to view. (at times I may give them graded papers in their homework folders)

• Please empty the red folder every Thursday!• The red folder is due back on Friday.

Report Cards &

Grading PolicyReport cards will be given every quarter. (4 times a year)

Grading Scale:3+ = Exceeds standards in addition to the 3, makes applications and inferences beyond expectations.3 = Meets standards consistently and independently2 = Progressing toward meeting standards1 = Limited progress or does not meet standards

Agenda Procedures• Students begin using a daily agenda in 3rd

grade. • They are responsible for recording

homework and important dates in their agenda every day. • Please help your child develop this important

study skill by looking over the agenda with him/her every night until they have established this routine. • Please sign your child’s agenda every night.

Classroom Rules/Policies

Rules:1) Listen when others are talking, 2) Follow directions, 3) Keep hands, feet, and objects, to yourself, 4) Work quietly and do not disturb others,5) Show respect for self, others, and school property6) Work and play safely

Consequences: 1st time: gentle reminder, 2nd time: Dojo points taken*Severe behavior issues: Phone call or referral to office

Parent Volunteer Opportunities• Our room parents are Ashley Cook and Kim Wimberly!

• Copy, laminate, cut (sign-up on back table)

• Print in color volunteers.

• Mystery Reader done through our room moms.

• If there is a special area of interest or expertise, please let me know if you would like to do a presentation and we will work it out!

Birthday Celebrations

Birthdays are meant to be celebrated! • You are welcome to send in a treat for your child’s big day during

our lunch time 12:21-12:51. • Before sending in a treat, contact us to let us know. • Please be sure that the treat can be served individually.• If your child has allergies that would prohibit them from eating a

particular treats on a celebration day, please send in an alternate treats that I can keep in the classroom for such a time.

Snacks• Please send a nutritious snack for your child. • Make sure they have a water bottle every

day.

Phonics/Spelling

• Our spelling curriculum will be Orton-Gillingham based. • Objective: Children will be responsible to learn/master

spelling rules and not to memorize a list of words.• Red Words/Sight Words• Tests will be given Wednesday, new spelling patterns

introduced Wednesday after test is completed.• Interactive instruction: shaving cream, sand trays,

manipulation of letters• Daily practice delivered through direct instruction and

decoding/encoding when reading and writing.• Practice test every Tuesday night.

Science and Social StudiesWe will alternate between the two. We are

studying Rocks and Minerals now, next is Fossils. Social Studies will be Ancient Greece

and 3 Branches of Government!
