Military governments like Pakistan, El Salvador andKorea are being budgeted vast amounts of military aid (aid:a Euphemism for destruction and misery . Aid once meant," to help," as in to provide food,Aelter and succor) todefend themselves against the "World Terrorism" evilRussia has brought to their dominions . I fail to see thedifference between a Commie bullet ana a Yankee bullet;which is more deadly? When both left-wing and right-winggunmen drag people out of their houses to blow theirbrains out and even Pakistan might have a "bomb" amongthe thousands and thousands of nuke-ular weapons scat-tered around the globe, it hardly matters who pulls thetrigger . The stench of death is foul no matter which waythe wind blows. During WWI idealistic Dada and Futuristartists ran off to fight, as an artistic act of greatness . Theamount of aid that Reagan has already sent to El Salvadoris much more than the amount he wants to cut Artsprograms. So. artists, musicians and dancers, join thefight! That reborn Christian and humanitarian Jimmy Car-ter approved a whopping $910 million in military aid in1979 . Under Reagan we can hope for a Carte Blanche tothe battlefield.

turns out to be the politically correctkind . You turn on the radio, and some-body is telling you that your favoritebands are too racist and sexist . A punkwrites a grafitto saying that the radioshow's staff are a bunch of white malesupremists laying a sexist, misogynisttrip bn us . Do you hate the Governmentbut have friends who hate all politicalbands . Are you an activist, anarchist,or an apathist? Does it matter?

Anarchy? Most punks agree that it'sthe only answer -the hope for survivalin this crazy World ; but confusion anddisagreement about what anarchy reallymeans as an active (or passive) way tochange this culture and destroy all ofits dangerous power keeps us, the PunkUnderground, split apart and unable toget anywhere with our manic revolt . Weuse the word " anarchy" so freely, draw-ing the symbol (A) everywhere, but theU .S .Government still holds our fraoilefuture in its bloody hands . Our "scene"is the only real alternative, a motleybunch of misfits who've built a socialvanguard of radical political and art-istic attitudes that has so much hard-core anger, a crazy, zealous rage thatjust might deal America a painful blowwhere all the hippies, Yippies and NewLeft passivactivists only made the Im-perialist Dog itch a little . But how?

Anarchy is an absence of government,or it is political disorder, or a con-flict of opinions ; all three describeour scene, right? Between all the Nazipunks, commie punts, middleclass punks,art punks, Zen punks, industrial punks,surf punks, psychobilly punks, druggeddunks, week-end punks, old-timer punksand freshly mohawked newcomers we have3 weird, wide variety of attitudes andideas . . .like, hey, we don't even agreethat there reallyisan exciting scene,n'ch less a unified cultural and polit-ical movement . There've been constant,stupid debates/sermons on the subject.No one likes people shouting atop soaphoes -self-righteaous dogmatics with ahair up their ass ; but what if they'reright? I mean, maybe you expect to dieyoung, but do you worry a little, justa bit, about El Salvador, the ERA (toolate!) and the starving punks in Brixton?

I dunno . Punks are so "right-on", sointelligent, political and radical, butw~ don't seem to make much of a dent inthe armor of amoral America . Then again,even Denz Havoc, self-styled Nazi Punk,sees some of the problems, saying someunexpected things . . .

Our scene is a melting pot of social,rejects whose apparent common purposeis to get fucked-up, freak people out,destroy the State and (iB possible) dieyoung in the process . Some kids work to-wards a Marxist revolution . Others feelthat staying in bed 'all day is revoltingenough . I dunno . Some work . Some get SSIand some steal or deal . It doesn't makeany goddamn sense . I mean, who are we,and what the hell are we trying to getdone in this sick society? Or am I sick?

Does It Make Any Difference?

I didn't find any answers ; punks arechaotic with their ideas -but something,keeps us together .
