Rule Number 1

RESPECT & PARTICIPATE50 Respect Points each quarter.

Sleeping, chatting, cell phones, doing other work, not participating are all RESPECT violations; 10 points taken away for each

violation.

Points can be earned back; 3 good day ≈ 1 bad day.

Rule Number 2

No Backpacks.Keep Pop/Water, Food/Candy out of sight.

No Food/Drink in Lab Area.Be In Your Seat When Bell Rings or Be Tardy.

2 days to make up each day gone; late work is half credit or zero. Check

schedule or absent book for assignments when gone.

Knowing what you missed while you are gone is YOUR responsibility.

COMPLETE ASSIGNMENTS on TIME

PUT FORTH an HONEST EFFORT

DO YOUR BEST!

Rule Number 4

Cheating/Copying Policy

Copying/cheating will result in NO points for the assignment, quiz or test.

Wandering eyes = copying; don’t do it!

No sharing of calculators, notes (books), or periodic tables for test/quizzes.

Write answers in complete sentences –

this means that the question is

embedded into the answer; no pronouns (they, it, he, she, etc).

Box-in your final numerical

answers; don’t forget units!

If I can’t read it, it’s wrong!

Show your work for partial credit

options.

Chemistry Syllabus (Summarized)

What is Chemistry?

Chemistry is the study of the properties and composition of matter (atoms and molecules). It uses concepts from physics and is useful in

explaining a lot of biology.

Chemistry is NOT blowing stuff up!

Bring to Class Each Day

Chemistry Syllabus (Summarized)

1. Chemistry Binder with Blank Pages for Notes2. Chemistry Text Book3. Pen or Pencil4. Calculator (with log key)5. Assignment Planner6. Assigned and Other Materials for the Day

Tardies will be given to those who do not bring these materials to class.

How to Do Well in This Class.Listen, take notes, study your notes, try, read

the assigned sections, ask, work together, don’t copy, participate, hand in homework (neat,

complete, & on time).

Understanding is Better than Memorizing.

Anything said in class or on the board is quizzable.

Binders will be handed in at the end of each quarter and graded based on completion.

Lab notebooks will be handed in more frequently.

Page 16: Mr. Tischer’s

Chemistry LabsIf a student misses all or most of an experiment, a lab report worksheet needs to be completed for the grade.

No make-up labs – complete a lab worksheet instead.

Mr. Tischer’sCommon Questions

“I was gone when we went over this stuff…”a) you need to get the notes from someone

“I was gone for a lab, what should I do?”a) If you missed the data collection part

Complete the lab worksheet insteadb) if you missed the data analysis part

Complete the analysis on your own

What is Physics?

Physics is the study of the most basic processes in nature (forces, motion, matter, energy)

Physics attempts to…1.Understand the Laws of Nature.2.Use Those Laws to Solve Problems.

Physics Syllabus (Summarized)

Page 20: Mr. Tischer’s

Why Care About Physics?

We are curious…”How do things work?” “Can we know (understand) all the laws of nature?” “I just want to know…” (Theoretical)

We like to do useful things…”Will this bridge support this weight?” “How should this satellite be launched?” “How can I make something that will do this?” (Practical)

Physics Syllabus (Summarized)

Page 21: Mr. Tischer’s

Why Care About Physics?

Inventions/Discoveries we ‘can’t live without.’

Laser, Television,Transistor, Motors/Generators,World Wide Web, Automobiles,Structure of DNA, Refrigerator (A/C), Cell-phone/Radio Communication

All invented/discovered/developed by physicists!
