You planned the construction of the Moffat Tunnel that would run from Boulder, Colorado to Winter Park, Colorado.

What exactly is your plan of action?...

It is your job as David H. Moffat to:

Map the route of the tunnelFind the cost of your tunnel and make a bar chart of the different costs for constructionWrite a letter to tell what else you would do to make Colorado a better place.

During this activity, you will be using:

•Excel PowerPoint to create a map•Microsoft Excel to make a pie chart•And Microsoft Word to write your letter

Steps to Take for your project:1. First you'll be assigned to a team of 3 students2. Once you are in your groups, each member must take one job in the task list

A. The three tasks are:I. Creating a mapII. Making a pie chartIII. And writing a letter

3. Here are the instructions for each task, and some helpful web links.

For the first task, you will want to find a map of the state of Colorado. 1.Click on the following link and copy and paste the map into a PowerPoint slide. http://www.johnnyroadtrip.com/cities/denver/maps/map_colorado.htm2. Locate Winter Park and Boulder on the map and draw in the route of the tunnel with a line connecting the two cities.3. Label your map, “Moffat Tunnel Route” and write your names under the title.

For the second task, use the following link to compare the millions used in the construction of the tunnel. Go to bottom of page for amounts: http://colorado.railfan.net/moffat/moff1.html

Write down the following amounts:1. The million pounds of dynamite used2. The million board feet of timber used3. And the how many millions it cost to build the tunnel

A. Write the three amounts in a column. One amount per square.B. Highlight all three squares and click on insert then chartC. Click the Bar Chart optionD. Then Label the chart “The Millions used in the Construction of Moffat Tunnel

4. For the final task brainstorm ideas on what you would do to make Colorado a better place.

1. Then pick your favorite idea and open Microsoft Word2. Type a half paged, single space document about what you would do to make Colorado a better place.
