Rewards/Consequences

Students who obey the class rules will have a more enjoyable learning experience and receive full participation points for the day.

However, students that do not follow the classroom expectations will lose participation points for each infraction. Frequent misbehavior will involve parental involvement and commitment on corrective action. If poor behavior continues, there will be further corrective actions decided by the parents, administration, and teacher.

Participation

Learning to participate and be involved in a community is a core reason why social studies is taught. That is why participation is a crucial part of every student’s grades. Everyday the students can earn five points for participation. In order to be a good participator in the class and earn all points, each student needs to do several things. First, they need to be there on time and ready to learn. Secondly, they need to be on task and follow classroom procedures. Finally, they are to be engaged in the discussion or class learning activity. Participation is worth 10% of the student’s total grade. There are several things that will drop a student’s participation grade. This includes being tardy, not being ready to work, breaking class rules, and failing to be involved in group activities.

Bullying

Bullying is destructive to a safe environment and learning is hindered dramatically when it is present. Therefore, any type of bullying will not be permitted in the classroom. Bullying includes, but is not limited to; swearing at another individual, derogatory comment at anytime, any form of put down, negative peer pressure, fighting, etc… Any student caught bullying will have a parent/guardian contacted immediately. If the offense is serious, or continues to happen after parental contact, the student’s behavior will be reported to the administration for review.
