Unveling of Marker of Laguindingan International Airport,

June 11, 2013, also attended by Moresco-1 officials (inset).

A lot of constructions and expansions are coming around.

There are better roads, subdivisions, commercial establish-

ments, industries and more. This would not only mean growth

to other companies, but also for the coop. “MORESCO-1 is

already in the process of contracting for additional power sup-

ply as early as now even though our Power Supply Contract

with National Power Corporation will expire in August 2015.

We are also applying for the N-1 69KV line as Capital Expen-

diture at the Energy Regulatory Commission. We will be con-

structing 69KV sub-transmission line along the National high-

way from Manticao to Talakag. These lines will increase our

reliability in terms of power supply.”

The coop has a connection agreement with its Big Loads as

part of its energization requirements. Incorporated is the

Power Supply Contract that it has with the Civil Aviation Au-

thority of the Philippines (CAAP) with a maximum demand of

4MW. In addition, it has a substation that could supply

10MVA, which is more than adequate to keep the airport run-

ning. In that way, it is prepared to cater more incoming devel-

opments in the area.

Furthermore, MORESCO-1 plans to open its Training Center

for requests for transient stay. However, further details will still

be discussed.

Modification in registration

The MORESCO-1 WTC-ITC grounds was still teeming with

people despite the new twist introduced to the 43rd Annual

General Membership Assembly (AGMA) of MORESCO-1 car-

ried out on May 24, 2013; the traditional pre-registration was

replaced by actual AGMA day registration, simultaneously in

the four Service Area Offices (Talakag, Opol, Laguindingan

and Manticao) to cater all the member-consumers within its

coverage area.

The increase of its atten-

dees was again tremen-

dously visible through the

list of registrants. From last

year’s 19,855, the turnout

of this year’s attendees

rose to 22, 470 as of 12

noontime on that day, ex-

cluding the manually listed attendees, having El Salvador with

the most attendees of 4,241.

On Spotlight

For Manang “Luz”, it doesn’t

matter whether she is on the

right stepping or not. All she

cared about was how to ex-

press her enjoyment during

the preliminary program of

AGMA in the morning which

was engulfed with music that enticed people to dance and feel

its beat. But the dancing grew groovier when host Venancio

Gumanid challenged them to show off to get some goodies in

exchange.

The morning program though was not only about dance show-

down. It was also used as an opportune time to update the

member-consumers on critical actions that MORESCO-1 un-

dertook such as its power supply engagement; the Uniform

Filing Rate application; Force Majeure CAPEX for “Pablo”;

and Sitio Electrification Program updates; and the most appre-

ciated undertaking which was the Interruptible Load Program,

hence, no rotational black-out was felt by the areas under its

franchise coverage, despite the National Grid Corporation of

the Philippines’ (NGCP) load curtailment. These heavy topics

were lightened up by being reviewed thru Q & A portion which

gave the participants the chance to get items in exchange of

giving correct answers to questions posed.

The afternoon program started with a salvo by the former

Board of Directors who didn’t fail to miss the activity, their

presence was indeed an honor for MORESCO-1 which they

saw progressed all through these years with all the successes

it has achieved now.

One aspiration

The candidness of MORESCO-1’s keynote speaker, Mr. Edi-

cio dela Torre indeed made a spot in the hearts of the crowd.

Dela Torre’s passion for the rural electrification was felt

through his upfront and lively speech. The social justice and

development advocate, made a comparison of the before,

now and after situation in the rural electrification.

Now, being the current President of the Electric Consumers of

the Philippines (ECAP) and consultant of the National Electri-

fication Administration, his advocacy on rural electrification still

continues, with the hope that through linking the power sector

to other industries significant to its growth and development,

justice and development shall be served to the people who

longed to have it for a quite a long time.

His message with that of Misamis Oriental Governor Oscar

Moreno, Congressman

Bambi Emano’s represen-

tative Mr. Rolando Seno

and DOE Sec. Jericho

Petilla’s representative

Mr. Edmar Derla showed

only one direction for

MORESCO-1—to never

cease in living its commit-

ment to empower the

lives of the people and as

it delivers its services to

the each doorstep, not

just in the present but

also in the next genera-

tion.

M anagers, supervisors, and team leaders of MO-

RESCO-1 attended a training on Boosting Per-

formance: Coaching, Counseling, and Mentor-

ing held on June 6-7, 2013 at Apple Tree Re-

sort and Hotel, Opol, Misamis Oriental.

The training that lasted two days was conducted by resource

speaker and trainer Ms. Lilian B. Visco. Through lectures,

case studies, and role plays, the participants learned the

definition, the steps, and the differences among coaching,

counseling, and mentoring, which enabled them to a better

commitment to their duties in helping their subordinates de-

liver excellent performance.

During the lectures, the participants were encouraged to al-

ways look at their people’s potentials, always have faith in

them. “Yung magaling kahapon, pwedeng hindi na magaling

ngayon o bukas,” Ms. Visco said as she advised the partici-

pants to hire people for future requirements since goals are

for long-term basis.

Goal setting, performance appraisal, and problem-solving

processes were also taught during the training.

Before the training ended, tokens and special awards were

given to Ms. Visco for conducting the event, Ms. Marebec

Cagalawan as The Earliest Bird, Mr. Elmer Dadole as The

Most Participative, Mr. Noriel Gabule as The Most Helpful,

and also to Ms. Chesed Vallejos, Ms. Kristina Arengo, and

Ms. Joy Olorvida

for facilitating and

hosting the event.

GM concluded the training with the idea that learning is infi-

nite “It does not have an ending, unless we can no more

stand or worse.” He said he can relate his learning with his

childhood experience and as a General Manager. For him,

coaching, counseling and mentoring are three important

things that we should perform and share to many people,

because according to him, it would really be difficult to be in

the industry if no one will teach you. He closed his message

with a simple “Thank you!” and “Mabuhi ang Moresco-1!”

The Board of Directors, Management & Personnel together with the on-the-job trainees of MORESCO-1 gathered to celebrate the Post Annual General Membership Assembly and Employees’ Fun Day in June 1, 2013, Saturday at Sea View Resort, El Salvador City. It is an annual activity of the coop to acknowledge its work-force’s hard work and to celebrate success of AGMA espe-cially that it hit 22, 470 membership this year (excluding the manually-listed attendees). During the event, the employees gathered beside the pool facing the horizon of the coast to sea and sky. It was a fun-filled day since there were a lot of games and raffle prizes were given. The MORESCO-1 Power Band was also pre-sent, which added spice to the event. The Loyalty Awardees Roquelio Amarga, Julieto Baslot, Eliseo Enerio, Ronie Padero, Robertson Eballe, and Solo-mon Buasag were also presented that day. This kind of award is only given to an employee who have rendered 20 years of service in MORESCO-1. GM Julie B. Real person-

ally congratulated them and shared his experience working with each of one of them. The late part of the afternoon was spared for drinking, danc-ing, swimming, and all other kinds of bonding with the em-ployees—the people behind MORESCO-1’s success.

The MORESCO-1 together with the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) distributed school supplies to the students of

Bagocboc Elementary School, Opol, Misamis Oriental on June 14,

2013.

This joint program is part of the coop’s Corporate Social Responsi-

bility (CSR), wherein one of its pillars is focusing on education.

Approximately 250 students from pre-school to Grade 6 received NGCP school kits consisting of bags, pencils and notebooks with

specially printed transmission line safety tips. In addition, they were also given snacks by MORESCO-1 and entertained with a song

number by its famous Power Band.

NGCP personnel took turns in explaining to the community and students the things not to do along power lines like flying kites, car-

rying up woods, putting fire on grasses that could burn poles, and planting trees along the power line route. MORESCO-1, on the other

hand, discussed the Kuryentipid tips and the Financial Downloading

Program, which will aid the collection efficiency in far-flung areas.

Both organizations intend to impart their yield to the less fortunate

particularly on the educational upliftment of school children in select

barangays, in which Brgy. Bagocboc is one of them since NGCP’s line traverses through its towers that is part of MORESCO-1’s cov-

erage area, which makes it a common beneficiary.

Part of it is to raise awareness to the students on the importance of

transmission lines and line safety and security through partnership

with the schools and communities within the coverage. It aims to reach out to the communities for them to know their obligations and

benefits as a member-consumer.

Finally, Barangay Captain Margilyn E. Abuhan thanked both organi-zations for providing school supplies to their pupils whose parents

are mostly marginal farmers, and for selecting their school as a bene-ficiary. She assured they will help in the safety campaigns of both

organizations.

M1 tests Kaizen 5S Housekeeping

The MORESCO-1 will be launching a pilot project 5S to

the participating offices starting June 2013.

5S refers to the Japanese terms Seiri, Seiton, Seiso,

Seiketsu, and Shitsuke which means tidiness, orderli-

ness, cleanliness, standardization, and discipline, re-

spectively. Cleaning methodology is its general per-

spective. It is also a part of Kaizen (Kai-Change, Zen-

Good) which is “a Japanese business philosophy of

continuous improvement of working practices, per-

sonal efficiency, etc.,” as defined in google.com.

Hiroyuki Hirano developed 5s in Japan within his over-

all approach to production systems. The beneficial

effect of this program enticed western managers and

have been enlightened with the experience of 5s. Its

role has optimized the manufacturing process and

had known as best practice.

This project-based assignment will certainly contribute

to the productivity in terms of efficiency in workplace

organization. Since this practice has long been imple-

mented both in local and international organizations,

it’s a manifestation of optimistic results.

The MORESCO-1 offices that will participate in the im-

plementation will be the Office of the General Man-

ager (OGM), the OGM Extension, and Corporate Plan-

ning Office.

This will be headed by Ma. Theresa Cid, a probation-

ary employee of M1, who has knowledge and experi-

ence on 5S implementation.

Initial discussions were already conducted during spe-

cial meetings which were participated by key persons

from the OGM units. Moreover, this project will be ap-

plied to all M1 offices as soon as the pilot project turns

out successfully.
