George Washington Teachers’ Institute

• A highly competitive program which brings teachers to Mount Vernon, Virginia for an intensive week of study at Washington's home. 

• Participating teachers immerse themselves in the study and discussion of this critical period of American history and the remarkable role George Washington played in the founding of our nation.

• All teachers receive a travel stipend of up to $450 and reside on the grounds of Washington's home.

• Teachers are currently accepted from Arkansas, Connecticut, Florida, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Mississippi, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Oklahoma, and Oregon.

•Winner Receives:

•$5,000 Cash Award

•Attends the next residential

Teachers’ Institute

•Free Mount Vernon field trip

George Washington Portrait Project

Have your principal send Mount Vernon a letter that you would like a free portrait of George Washington to place prominently in your school, including where the portrait will be placed, school’s street address, and email address. The portrait will be accompanied by our beautiful Celebration Kit, which includes a flag flown over Mount Vernon as well as curriculum resources.

Distance Learning Broadcasts

• Mount Vernon offers teachers engaging and FREE satellite-delivered distance learning broadcasts on topics such as slavery, Martha Washington, westward expansion, the presidency, and using primary documents in the classroom.

• Previously broadcast programs are available to educators, also for free, in DVD format.  To order a copy of each DVD (one per school), please send the request on school letterhead to: Fairfax Network, 4414 Holborn Avenue, Annandale, VA 22003.
