Judah Lord’s Supper – 4 As you can tell, I have a hobby horse concerning those who try to predict the second coming of Jesus. I believe firmly that the Scriptures tell us that we cannot know the day and the hour. Some may claim that we can know the relave me frame. I doubt seriously that God intended for us to even know the me frame. As I’ve maintained in our Wednesday class on 1 Thessalonians, when we think we have a me frame, we tend to let down our diligence in serving the Lord properly. I think that some of the folks at the Thessalonian church thought that Jesus was coming back in their lifeme. So, a few of them quit work and became moochers and busy bodies. Paul calls them “disorderly” (2 Thessalonians 3:6 NASB) or “idle” (2 Thessalonians 3:6 ESV). Their behavior is so bad that Paul tells them to withdraw from those who walk like this. Our view of the second coming of Jesus will influence how we live. Paul tells us that when we take the Lord’s Supper, we “proclaim the Lord’s death unl He comes” (1 Corinthians 11:26). Do you think about the second coming when you take the Lord’s Supper? I must admit that I don’t, but Paul says that in our taking it we are reminding ourselves that His death brings our salvaon and that we are waing for Him to return to consummate what He began with His death. We are to see that His death takes priority over His return in the sense that His death is the foundaon. His return completes what He secured at the cross. The Lord’s Supper reminds us that He is coming again. He can come at any me. Taking the Lord’s Supper is our pledge that we understand what He did for us and that we will be faithful to it every day. -Bob-
