Metal fiber filters for hot gas applications in the petrochemical industry Description: The legislation on particulate emission to the atmosphere is getting tighter year by year. Typical emission levels for high efficiency cyclones are close to 50 - 100 mg/Nm 3 . To meet the current and future limits, other technologies of separation are required. ElectroStatic Precipitators (ESP) fit the criteria. However, this technology is very complex and very expensive. Cleanable sintered metal fiber filters offer an economical solution. The development of metal fiber filter media such as Bekipor ® contributed to an increased quality level through higher filter efficiency and a longer on-stream life. The standard available alloys are AISI316 and Inconel ® 601 used for high temperatures (up to 360°C/650°F and 560°C/1040°F respectively), but other alloys are available. The fine filter pore size guarantees filter efficiencies of 99.99%, resulting in emission levels below 10mg/Nm 3 . Furthermore, this high-efficiency filter protects the turbo expander from erosion, reduces maintenance require- ments of the expander and protects the waste heat boiler from fouling. A highly porous structure, which is a characteristic of a sintered metal fiber media, offers high permeability and low pressure drop, even at high filtration velocities. This results in a low capital expenditure and low running costs. The Bekiflow ® HG filter system can also be used on the vent gas from catalyst storage hoppers and separation of catalyst fines during conveying operations.
