The Best Valuein Large Motors, too.
Years ago, when Baldor began making large frame AC
motors and drives, we spent a lot of time in the field.
We talked in depth with plant maintenance and designengineers. We asked about tough environments such
as mining, pulp and paper manufacturing, and chemical
processing. We took the opportunity to learn in great
detail what capabilities and characteristics people like
and need. And most important, we learned what not to
do.
One of the frequent suggestions was the need for better
structural integrity and rigidity. And many wanted mo-
tors that were tough enough to withstand the rigors of
even the most extreme applications.
Today, Baldor makes tough, reliable motors up to 1,250HP for a wide variety of applications. And we continue
to listen and follow through on what customers want.
Thats why you can count on Baldor for superior value.
Baldor large frame motors and drives feature:
Choice of all popular enclosures,
voltages and frequency, custom orders
are no problem.
Choice of Baldor Super-ENEMA Premium
efficiency or high efficiency designs.
Extra heavy-duty cast iron frames,
endplates and stiff foot structures, to
minimize potential vibration problems.
Premium rotor system design, to operate
below the 1st critical design speed by at
least a 15% safety margin can be
operated from a adjustable speed control
through entire speed range.
Choice of standard high-pressure
die-cast aluminum rotors or fabricatedcopper bar rotors.
Precision dynamic balanced with state-of-
the-art equipment, to ensure finished
motors meet NEMA vibration standards.
Class H-rated vacuum pressure
impregnated (VPI) insulation systems
with surge rings on all end turns to
minimize risk of premature failure.
Electrical grade steel laminations, to
minimize eddy currents and hysteresis
losses, results in cooler operation and
more efficiency.
Upgraded low-loss electrical grade core plates,
to reduce core losses for the life of the motor
(others offer as low as C-3, standard).
Ability to meet many industry standard
specifications such as IEEE 841or
company-specific specs.
There are many other advantages to specifying
Baldor large frame motors or drives. Youll find
them on the following pages as well as all the specs
you need to make the perfect decision
for your application.
Take a look. Talk to your Baldor distributor. If you dont
see what you need, ask us about custom capabilities.
You can likely have it on your floor in three weeks or
less.

Baldors Severe Duty motors are another example of our commitment to provide reliable
performance, while exceeding customer expectations.
Wound with ISR(Inverter Spike Resistant) Magnet Wire
Recognized as Product of the Year
by Plant Engineering magazine in
1996, Baldors ISR wire is a standard
feature in Baldor AC motors, 575 volt
and under, 1 hp and up.
Motors wound with ISR wire are up to
100 times more resistant to transient
voltage spikes, high frequencies
and short rise time pulse frequently
produced by inverters and vectordrives. The result is a better motor
with longer life, reduced downtime
and better overall value.
Standard on All Baldor Motors: Exxon PolyrexEM Polyurea Grease
Its a fact: Bearing failure is the #1 mechanical reason for motor failure. So the better the grease
protecting those bearings, the better and longer the motor performs.
Today, that better grease is Exxons new PolyrexEM polyurea grease now standard on all
Baldor motors. It provides lubrication life of more than four times greater than other polyurea
greases in tests up to 350F. It exhibits greater durability when subjected to mechanical shearing
forces. Furthermore, a specially formulated additive in the grease resists washout, rust and
corrosion even when subjected to salt water conditions.

As illustrated here, the proprietary polyurea thickener system inPolyrex EM exhibits excellent durability and stability when subjected to
a mechanical shearing force. Mechanical shear stability is a measurementof the greases thickener system. Good mechanical shear stability is
important in roller bearing applications where excessive grease softeningmay lead to grease leakage or purging from the bearing.

Making Energy Efficiency Work For You
Why is Energy Efficiency Important?Electric motor-driven systems used in industrial processes consumed 679 billion kWh, or 63% of all electricity used in U.S. industrial
sector, according to a U.S. Department of Energy report published in 1998. The report goes on to reveal that industrial motor energy
could be reduced by up to 18 percent if companies were to apply motor and motor system efficiency upgrades, including the use ofadjustable speed drives. The potential positive impacts on companies bottom lines and the environment are significant.
Purchase Price is Onlya Small Piece of the Pie
The pie chart to the right shows the typical life cycle cost of a 100 hp
motor operating in continuous duty over a 20-year life. As you can see,
the original purchase price is almost insignificant compared to what it
will cost to power the motor during its useful life.
How Baldor Super-E
Efficiencies Compare toIndustry StandardsBaldors line of Super-E motors offers customers the
highest level of overall efficiencies available from any
motor manufacturer, complying with NEMA Premium
efficiency.
BE$T Baldor Energy SavingsToolMakes CalculatingPayback Easy
In order to make payback calculations easier forcustomers, Baldor developed BE$T (Baldor Energy
Savings Tool). BE$T helps calculate energy cost
and energy savings for motors, as well as payback
timeframes. A popular feature of BE$T is that it
allows users to make head-to-head comparisons of
up to three motors, giving customers the information
to make an informed decision through comparative
analysis.
BE$T Baldor Energy Savings Tool is available as a
download through Baldors award-winning Web site(www.baldor.com/support/index.asp,) as well
as a stand-alone CD-Rom available from the
Baldor Literature Hotline (1-800-828-4920).

Matched Performance Curves
Matched Performance is Baldors
solution to the concern, What kind of constant
horsepower speed range will I get with this
combination of motor and control? Each
test is performed in Baldors ownengineering laboratory.
These performance curves show the
continuous operating constant torque speed
range that can be produced without exceeding
Class F temperature rise in the motor. Peak
torque is the maximum amount of torque a
Baldor inverter or vector drive can produce.
This may be limited by either the motors
breakdown torque or the current from
the control.
