TIBHAI Group of Companies kick-started the collection of funds from Private Donors for the remaining 372 schools by giving Read to Lead FIJI a donation cheque recently.

Read to Lead FIJI is a nation-wide reading program committed to delivering over 185,000 new childrens books to all of Fijis 732 primary schools.

Read to Lead FIJI received the cheque from Mr Jinesh Patel, Marketing Executive and Direc-tor, in the presence of Mr Abra-ham Gomes, Business Develop-ment Manager of the Motibhai Group of Companies at their of-fi ce in Walu Bay, Suva.

Motibhai Group welcomes Vision Fiji and the aim of their project in promoting literacy and providing the children a helping hand to make a better Fiji, said Mr Jinesh Patel.

He said the Group is glad to support Vision Fijis project to provide all primary schools with a box of books which then be-comes a small library in a box.

This will enable children to cultivate the habit of reading not just the text books but books of general knowledge, science, ge-ography, fi ction and more, signif-icantly improving literacy levels at large, Mr Patel added.

He said the Group fully sup-ports the Ministry of Education which has endorsed the Book Box Library as a solution to Fi-jis dire need for reading books in primary schools.

Motibhai Group Business De-velopment Manager Abraham Gomes said: This initiative will

Motibhai supports Vision Fiji for Read to Lead initiative

actively engage the teachers, par-ents, and community to grow and build a better Fiji collectively.

There isnt any better way to impart knowledge than by pro-viding books and creating interest and habit of reading at primary level to make each and every child a better citizen to become future leaders of Fiji, Mr Gomes added.

The FIJI Water Foundation, the Australian High Commis-sions Direct Aid Program (DAP) and Scholastic Inc, the worlds largest publisher and distributor of childrens books, supported the Pilot Phase and Phase Two of Read to Lead FIJI (an initiative of local NGO Vision Fiji) to reach 360 of its targeted 732 schools.

These contributions will see Read to Lead FIJI deliver Box Library sets of 250 books per school, to 330 primary schools in Phase 2, and more in Phase 3. These Library Book sets include teaching resources such as a CD-ROM, reading activity guides and lesson plans.

Vision Fiji Secretary Gazala Akbar called for further sup-port from Private Donors to en-able Read to Lead FIJI to reach the remaining schools across the country.

We are working with the Ministry of Education to im-prove Literacy in our children at Primary Level, Ms Akbar said. There is an urgent need to secure further funding for the remaining

schools. Today we call on the pri-vate sector and the public to assist us in achieving our goal.

Read to Lead FIJI was devel-oped with the Ministry of Educa-tion and Library Services of Fiji to sustainably benefi t primary school children through integra-tion into Fijis education system.

Motibhai Group Announces Distributorship of Friends Fiji

Style ProductsFoundation for Rural In-tegrated Enterprises and Development (FRIEND)

    - a development Non-Govern-mental Organization producing and promoting local goods for sustainable livelihoods has en-tered into a distributor agreement with Motibhai Group of Compa-nies.

FRIEND is very thankful to the Motibhai Group of Compa-nies for this agreement of distrib-utorship as they understand the gourmet nature of our products and its target markets with its strong and long history of dealing with quality gourmet products, FRIEND Founder and Director Sashi Kiran said.

Its a proud moment for all our local farmers and rural wom-en producers of the Friends Fiji Style range of delicacies made from traditional recipes as they now sit with other prestigious brands associated with the Motib-hai Group, Ms Kiran added.

The new agreement does not come as a surprise as the Motib-hai Group has been a longtime supporter of FRIEND.

Ten-years-ago when I was struggling to introduce the prod-ucts into the market, an appoint-ment with the then CEO Mr Mahendra Motibhai Patel proved positive as he saw the quality of the products and the attempts at improving livelihoods. Mr Patel at the time did not think twice in giving his commitment and sup-port to FRIENDs work, Ms Ki-ran recalled.

She said the meeting resulted in Prouds being the fi rst duty free and travel retail store to sell Friends Fiji Style range of prod-ucts.

Since then the company has been carrying the range on its shelves. The ten-year-old part-nership has now been further strengthened with a distribution agreement.

According to Ms Kiran, more and more health conscious customers are reaching out to Friends Fiji Style range of prod-ucts that are free from artifi cial preservatives and colours and Motibhai Group having a strong customer reach blends in well with their aim of taking such healthy products closer to con-sumers.

She says the partnership will allow FRIEND to work in com-munities as Motibhai Groups strong distribution network will

help expand markets for local gourmet products and a strong market presence will mean local farmers have a steady market for sustained income.

This will also free the orga-nizational time and resources for more focus on new products and development of enterprises in the communities as part of their on-going poverty alleviation initia-tive, Ms Kiran said.

Motibhai Group Marketing and Business Development Man-ager Abraham Gomes said they are delighted to be appointed as the distributor of Friends Fiji Style range of products which will now become part of their well established distribution net-work.

Our group with this new ar-rangement with FRIEND is now committed to further strengthen the mutual business relationship, Mr Gomes said.

He said the group has been as-sociated with Friends Fiji Style range of products from their hum-ble beginnings and recognizes the good work they have been doing amongst the less fortunate.

Friends Fiji Style range of products will now form an inte-gral part of our business and we expect the range of products to become a household name in time to come, Mr Gomes said.

Friends Fiji Style range in-cludes a wide range of products which are 100% locally made assisting in livelihood improve-ments and income generation of hundreds of local farmers and producers. Handmade cards made by youths including people with disabilities are creative art pieces on recycled paper made from res-idue of yaqona (kava paper).

Their range of herbal teas include famous kava tea, tradi-tional home remedies including

layalaya, cinnamon, lemon grass, rosella and basil (Tulsi).

Local home tasting jams fea-ture mango, guava and much loved marmalade. Pickles and chutneys utilize various fruits in season to offer customers tangy delicious mango, lime, chilli pickles, ambrella kuchla, chilli and famous tamarind chutney cooked in pure virgin coconut oil. Abundance of papaya and ba-nanas are now available as dried fruits for snacks and the baking range includes traditional seven grains - satwa, range of gluten free fl ours as well as local des-iccated coconut, cassava fl our, grated cassava and honey. All the products have emerged from FRIENDs economic empower-ment programs in communities that include planning, fi nancial literacy, utilizing local skills and resources to develop quality local goods for the market.
