A broad range of research into Australian and British
Commonwealth Military History can be undertaken. For Australian
service personnel, the standard charge to provide biographical,
service, medals, battles, etc details is $50. Rates for other
research can be advised on request. Most tasks can be completed
within two weeks.
Mostly Unsung continues to locate and develop new resources for
researching military history. Recent examples include Long Service

Our Boer War holdings are still without equal and include
computerised medal and clasp entitlements for Australian
Contingents to the Boer War 1899-1902 (with 1000 more than listed
in Murray’s); plus all medal rolls and service papers for most
Irregular units, etc.

RESEARCHER’S NOTICEBOARD
Australia faced many enemies during World War Two – Germans,
Italians Vichy French and the Japanese. Rarely however, have the
Chinese been identified as an antagonist. An exception resulted in
the death of several Australian Prisoners of War at the hands of
Chinese troops or bandits, near Hoban on 8th April 1944. Others
were wounded. All men were members of the 2/21st Infantry Battalion
who had fought on Ambon before being overwhelmed; then survived the
Laha massacre and subsequent transportation to a POW camp on Hainan
Island. As part of a wood chopping party, these men and their
Japanese guards were ambushed in their vehicle en route to the work
area. No Japanese survived and the following Australians were
killed in the action:
