The BSE Sensex was nearly unchanged on Wednesday as key corporate results, including that of ICICI Bank Ltd, remained in focus, with investors also keeping an eye out for the outcome of a two-day policy meeting of the US Federal Reserve. There is some consolidation in the (domestic) market but broadly the trend has been positive, lifted by a better-than-expected corporate earnings season. Real estate company Godrej Properties rose as much as 15.7% to a record high after it said it sold 1,000 apartments in Mumbai, Pune and Noida across three new projects since March 2017. SH Kelkar and Co. Ltd shares fall 4.4% to Rs313.55 after huge block deal. Around 6.9% stake or 9.98 million shares of the company changed hands in two block deals. Adani Group stocks trade lower. Adani Transmissions Ltd fell 1.1%, Adani Power 0.3%, Adani Ports 0.2% and Adani Enterprises 0.2%. Shriram City Union Finance Ltd shares fall 4.2% to Rs2,091.60 after the company reported 78.3% decline in its March quarter’s net profit from a year ago period to Rs342 crore. JM Financial Ltd shares rise 4% to Rs121.95 after the company reported 46.7% increase in its March quarter net profit to Rs210.26 crore from Rs143.28 crore a year ago. IRB Infrastructure Developers Ltd shares rise 1% to Rs269. IRB Infrastructure Developers’ infrastructure investment trust (InvIT) on Tuesday allotted units worth Rs2,094.5 crore to anchor investors ahead of its initial public offering (IPO) which opens on Wednesday. Cummins India Ltd shares rise 5.1% to Rs1,050 after brokerage firm Morgan Stanley has upgraded the stock to ‘overweight’ and increased its target price to Rs1,192 a share. US markets closed in green. S&P 500 at 2,391 is up 0.12% on gains in technology and industrial shares. In Asia equity markets in Hong Kong, Japan and South Korea are closed for holidays. Utility vehicle market leader Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) has ceded dramatic ground to rivals in the past five years as its market share hit the lowest mark in over a decade. Among the sectoral indices, S&P BSE Bankex fell 0.4 percent while S&P BSE Realty index gained 1.5 percent. IRB Infrastructure Developers Ltd. will on Wednesday launch the country’s first initial public offering (IPO) for an infrastructure investment trust (InvIT) to raise up to Rs 5,040 crore. The company will use nearly two-thirds, or up to Rs 3,350 crore, of funds raised to repay external debt. The rest will go to the parent and sponsor IRB Infrastructure, which will hold a 15 percent stake in the InvIT post the issue for at least three years.
The Nikkei India Manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI)—compiled by Nikkei and research firm Markit—remained at 52.5 in April, same as that recorded in March. A reading below 50 indicates a contraction and a reading above it indicates expansion. Stronger growth in new orders and improving demand conditions were some of the key factors behind the expansion in manufacturing activity in April. The factors were offset by slower increases in output, stocks of purchases and employment.
Kansai Nerolac Paints Ltd. will focus on its home paints segment this financial year. The business, also known as the decorative paints vertical, has been growing at a healthy pace for the company, and saw a volume growth of 18 percent in the January-March quarter. The decorative paints segment drove the company’s volume growth higher, said HM Bharuka, the managing director of the company. Automobile companies are Kansai Nerolac’s biggest industrial clients and Bharuka told BloombergQuint that most of them are still recovering from the impact of demonetisation.
