They made signs, asking his father what he wished him to be called. He asked for a table and wrote, “John is his name,” and all were amazed. ~ Lc 1, 62-63

Cycle B— June 24, 2018 12th Sunday in Ordinary Time
Tiny fingers and toes. A little yawn. A loud cry. An infant wrapped in swaddling clothes. "What will this child be?" It is a question every parent asks time and time again. As first steps are taken, as personalities emerge, as a child shows interest in reading or drawing or climbing, the question is on our lips. "What will this child be?" This question is asked as John the Baptist is born. Will he be a priest like his father? Does his strange, unexpected name signal a departure from that inheritance? Could Elizabeth and Zechariah ever have predicted what would be? Under the tutelage of his priestly father, John "became strong in spirit." As an adult, John would retreat into the desert to preach repentance. He would attract a large following and eventually attract the attention of the rulers of the day. He would point out the adulterous ways of King Herod and would find himself in prison. Eventually, he would be beheaded. But today, he is a child, an infant newly born. On this special feast, we're reminded of the great humility required of parents. The character formation, the discipline and encouragement, the violin lessons and soccer practices, every parental effort is subjected to the decisions of the child them self. Even children on a sure track by high school graduation transform under life's circumstances. Entrusting our children to God can be incredibly intimidating. "What will this child be," especially when that transformation lies outside of my control? John the Baptist's story might not have ended as his parents imagined. But he is celebrated as the greatest of the prophets, as the one who prepared the way for the Messiah. Here is the hope of all Christian parents -- that our children would be raised in such a way that when people meet them, they meet Jesus Christ.

Rejoice Counseling Apostolate Highlight on Depression
Summertime is upon us and with it many exciting activities, vacations, and hot days are ahead! While this can be a time of great joy, it can also be a time of pain for individuals suffering from sadness and depression. Baby Bottle Boomerang, 2018 On Monday, June 18th, 113 bottles out of 160, about 70%, were turned over to the Pregnancy Help Center. Catholic Daughters Gail Thomas, Judy Jo DeVries, Carol Peltier and Peggy Keillor had lunch with PHC staff and visited with them. In the afternoon, as we returning, more bottles were being turned in at the parish office. Don’t be dismayed if you forgot your bottle. We will continue turning them in as we receive them. The best place to turn in the bottles is the parish office. Our wonderful parish staff will let us know they have received more bottles. Once PHC hits the cutoff date, PHC will give us a report on the total funds raised and we will report the results. Thanks so much to all who participated. If you want more information about Catholic Daughters and our projects, please come to our Bunco Fundraiser on July 7th at the KC Hall, or speak with our Regent-elect, Blanca Ochoa, at Most Holy Trinity or contact Peggy Keillor or Ann Geissen at St. Anthony’s. Sponsored by CDA Court Immaculate Mary, #2134, parishes Most Holy Trinity and St. Anthony’s
Thank you to Fr. Bill Bueche, C.Ss.R. pastor of Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Houston who is covering confessions, the Saturday evening and Sunday morning Masses this weekend! A warm welcome to Angleton! Also thank you to Fr. Vince Dulock, CSB for celebrating the 6:30 p.m. Sunday Mass and Monday morning Mass. Fr. Vince is one of my predecessors as Pastor and my former formation adviser when I was on pastoral year during seminary. He is the priest who built our beautiful Church. Welcome home! I ask the parish to please pray for Deacon David Michael and I and the 21 youth who are going Steubenville South Youth Conference in Alexandria, Louisiana, and their adult chaperones: Amber Forness, Lizzy Rinn, Rey and Rosanna Tenorio, Sonia Gonzalez and Idette Saenz. Pray that the Holy Spirit may fill our hearts and change us, especially the high school youth! This is not a platitude. Please really do remember us when you do your prayers at home or when you receive Communion. We will pray for you. We are so blessed to have Deacon David Michael Moses at our parish this year as part of his formation. How exciting that we are part of the formation of a future priest. Please pray for him and his ministry and formation. He is ready to serve us. This Summer he is full time with us and during the school year he will be here every other weekend to serve mass, preach and celebrate baptisms, weddings, and whatever else he is called to do in the name of the Church (deacons can bless religious articles and homes, cars, boats on behalf of the Church). He is from Nassau Bay, TX. I was at his parish St. Paul’s for my pastoral year (internship when I was a seminarian) and he was an altar server in High School. Now it is a blessing to have him at my Church and at the rectory.
“INSTRUMENTS OF GOD’S MERCY” 2018 DIOCESAN SERVICES FUND

Once a year each of us is asked to make a commitment to support the work of our programs and ministries that provide services that no one parish could provide on its own. Please experience the joy of giving and join us as we work to continue God’s work of spirituality, formation and education by contributing to the Diocesan Services Fund. Help us attain our parish goal of $65,000! Your generosity will allow our Catholic Community to continue many vital programs and services. To give online, please visit www.archgh.org/dsf to make your donation. For those of you who have already responded with a gift, please accept our sincere gratitude.
