We acknowledge the traditional custodians, the Kuku Yalanji people, of the land on which our school stands and pay respects to the Elders, past, present and emerging. Yalada Parents and Carers, Thanks to all those students, parents, friends, staff and community members who braved the rain and parcipated in the Carnivale street parade last Friday night. We had 60+ devout Moss- man State School students and their families who came along and had a sensaonal me pa- rading through the streets of Port Douglas. The Mossman State School spirit was evident on the night and our ’casual’ float looked spectacular. Thanks again to all those families. As one of our Year 1 boys said ’This is the best day ever’. Our school hosted the Queensland Police Force’s Cyber Safety sessions for our Year 3 & 4’s and 5 & 6’s. The messages and key strategies that were taught in these sessions are extremely valu- able and are essenal learnings in this day of Social Media. I am asking you to know what games, apps etc your children access and just as importantly, who they are talking to/communicang with on-line. Have, and keep having these conversaons. Our Year 6 students along with fellow Year 6 students from Alexandra Bay, Daintree, Wonga Beach, Mial- lo, Julaen and Port Douglas State Schools are currently parcipang in the Douglas Cluster of Primary Schools Year 6 transion camp. The program inerary was changed at the last minute as weather condi- ons prevented some acvies including the overnight bivouac to take place. From all reports the stu- dents and staff are having a great me being ’challenged’, parcipang in some challenging acvies and socialising with students from other schools. We look forward to hearing some stories. Mr Ryan’s class also braved the wet weather and parcipated in their planned excursion to Mossman Gorge and Cooya Beach. This excursion supported their unit of work where the students were reading and analysing tradional stories including stories from Asia and Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islander peoples histories and cultures. The day culminated in sto- rytelling of Kuku Yalanji clans and Kuku Yalanji Cultural Habitat tours. From all reports the excursion was extremely producve and enjoyable. Today we were represented by Erma, Juakene, Laiko, Merle, Rahni, Ronasia, Tomar & Zane at the Opening ceremony for the Douglas Shire Naonal Reconciliaon Week celebraons. Well done to our students for once again represenng themselves, their families, community and Mossman State School with pride. Definitely leaders of the future. Thank you to Miss Tahnee, Miss Sandra and Miss Noli for co-ordinang and accompanying our students. Please have a look at the Douglas Shire Council website for a rundown of what acvies are planned during the Reconciliaon Week celebraons. Our school will be hosng a “Ngujakura” morning on Wednesday 2 nd June. Have a lovely weekend.
