I hope you are enjoying the home learning and keeping safe and well with your family. I have been very busy trying to get a high score on my garden dart board. Have you been playing a game where you use your counting skills? Can you read the numbers on the dart board? I’ve also been making lots of cakes for my friends, banana cake seems to be everyone's favourite. I am having lots of walks to drop off the cakes to my friend’s doorsteps. I went walking to the fields by my house and see fruit growing on the bushes, do you know the name of the fruit? Hope you have all been eating lots of fruit and trying new vegetables. Story time Here are some suggested stories/songs for the week.
These are the choice of books for the week. Please choose one that will be used on Monday and Tuesday and a second one that will be use on Wednesday and Thursday. Friday is free-choice!
Ask your child: Is this a fiction (a story) or a non-fiction (real) text? How do you know? Can you find the tricky words, e.g.: in, the. How many places do they explore? Are all the places in the garden? Can you name the vegetables growing? Can you make a list of the things in the garden our school?
Remind your child of some strategies they could use to decode new words: sounding out, using the pictures for clues or reading the rest of the sentence and come back to the word(s) you found tricky.
Ask your child: Is this a fiction (a story) or a non-fiction (real) text? How do you know? Can you find the tricky words, e.g. is. Discuss how the pictures extend the story told by the words. (You have to ‘read’ the pictures too). What is happening? What is the farmer thinking? Retell the story in your own words and use different animals and food. Can you make your own sandwich for lunch? Can you write a speech bubble or write about the food you eat for lunch?

Day 1 – Look at the picture below. Make a list of all the animals that you can see in the sea. Choose 2 more animals that live in the sea and write a sentence about what they are doing. E.g. The fish is swimming. Remember:

Re-read the book you read yesterday and carry out the activity at the end.
Can your child put these sentences back in the correct order? (You could write the words and cut them up so it’s easier). Encourage them to look for the capital letter at the start of the sentence and the full stop at the end. Keep asking them to read them to you. Does it make sense?

Play the Phase 4 Tricky Words Song. Stop at 0.19 and have-a-go at writing the new tricky word
First, on Espresso watch the video clip called ‘Under The Sea’. Then, watch the video and draw along to ‘How to Draw a Shark’ on YouTube. Finally, can you write a very simple sentence about your fish? Can you write on lines? E.g. A shark is big.
First, make sure you are logged onto Espresso. Next, watch ‘Secrets Under The Sea’. Then, watch the video on YouTube and draw along to: ‘How to Draw a Jellyfish’ Can you write a sentence about a jellyfish? e.g. The jellyfish has lights. The jellyfish floats in the sea.
Recap on oo, oa and ee sounds. Can you write these words and add sound buttons?
Can you write a sentence for one of these words? Challenge: Can you include a tricky word you have learned in your sentence?

Day 5
Today I have a writing challenge for you!! First you need to draw a picture of Under the Sea. Think about what animals live in the sea. What colours are the animals? What other things can we find in the sea? Have you been to the sea? What did you do there? What did you see? Finally write a sentence about one of the questions. e.g. I played in the sea. I went swimming in the sea. I see a fish in the sea.

When practicing letter formation with your child it is best to follow the letter formation in the handwriting family groups, that your child is familiar with at school. Here is a link to Twinkl for letter formation activities
Make a model of Under the Sea – this could be with blocks, small world figures, Lego, or make one using an old box? Can you make some sea animals and add labels? Take a picture and send it to the school office for the newsletter! I look forward to seeing your model.
