Salamanca Salamanca was elected the Cultural Capital of Eu-

rope in 2003. It is the heartland of Spanish Language

Education and derives almost 100% of its economy

from the sectors of Education and Tourism. It is home

to the third oldest university in the world, (founded in

1208 AD) and numerous cathedrals, churches, muse-

ums and items of historical interest.

Granada Granada is an autono-

mous city in the state of

Andalucía in Southern

Spain. Granada is located at the foot of the Sierra Ne-

vada Mountains and is within an hour of the Mediter-

ranean coast. It is a unique city in many ways, it is said

that one can go snowskiing before lunch and swim-

ming in the ocean the same day. It is home to the Al-

hambra, the ancient Arabic city/palace, said to be one

of the seven man-made wonders of the world. It is a

fantastic old city; it really has something for everyone.

Segovia & Ávila

Segovia & Ávila are historic cities in Castilla Leon.

Segovia is home to the Roman Aqueduct of Segovia,

built in the 1st century AD and the Alcazar of Segovia

(King’s summer

residence). The

walled city of Avila is

unique in Spain with

the whole city being

surrounded by

ancient fortifications.

It was also the birthplace of Saint Teresa, the patron

saint of Spain.

Toledo is known as the city of three cultures, famous

for centuries of

harmonious

coexistence of

Christians, Jews and

Muslims. It is famous

for its universities and,

of course, its steel.

Seville is the heart of Andalucía, home of Flamenco,

bullfighting, gazpacho and all things Southern Spain.

Seville is home to La Giralda, which was the tallest

building in the world when it was built (980AD), the

Alcazar de Seville, the Guadalquivir River, the Barrio

Santa Cruz (the maze-like ancient quarter of town) and

one of the world’s largest cathedrals. All of these

wrapped in a

temperate climate

makes Seville one of

the most visited cities

in Europe.
