National - World News STATE & LOCAL NEWS Thursday, October 5, 2017 Athens, Tennessee A newly formed tropical depression in the southwestern Carib- bean is forecast to strengthen to a hurricane as early as Saturday. This could impact the U.S. Gulf Coast and residents from Louisi- ana to Florida are being warned to monitor the system as it ap- proaches. The Las Vegas shooter’s girlfriend, Marilou Danley, assured her family she has a "clean conscience" in the wake of Sunday night’s deadly rampage. Sheriff Joseph Lombardo stated that Danley is currently a person of interest. She is not officially in custody and is free to go where she pleases. U.S. stocks inched higher with new economic data, posting the longest winning streak since May. The Dow Jones Industrial Av- erage was up 20 points to 22,662. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index was up 3 points to 2,538, and the NASDAQ Composite Index was up 3 points to 6,535.
