Morayfield Road Upgrade Newsletter 4, September 2010 The Department of Transport and Main Roads is undertaking detailed design for the upgrade of Burpengary to Caboolture Road (known locally as Morayfield Road). Morayfield Road is a major arterial road that connects the Bruce Highway at Uhlmann Road with Caboolture, through the commercial centre of Morayfield. The preferred upgrade option is now being finalised and the department will call for tenders for construction in early 2011. The project will be completed in two stages: Stage 1 - Gympie Creek to Gaffield Street Stage 2 - Bruce Highway to Gympie Creek. Project timeline April 2006 After consultation, the project team compiled community feedback. Environmental, traffic and engineering studies commenced. November 2006 Road upgrade proposals were developed and presented to the community for feedback. Stage 1: Planning Early to mid 2007 Proposals are assessed using the results of community feedback, and engineering, traffic and environmental studies. Stage 2: Detailed design 2007 to late 2010 The preferred upgrade option is being designed in greater detail ready for construction. Stage 3: Construction Mid 2011 to 2015 Construction Stage 1 – mid 2011 Stage 2 – to continue after completion of Stage 1. Proposed project features Stage 1 Duplication of the existing two lanes to four lanes Upgrades to Graham Road and Lindsay Road intersections Construction of a new bridge over the North Coast Railway line Stage 2 Duplication of the existing two lanes to four lanes Upgrades to Paradise Road and Gleeson Road intersections to include signals Construct a service road between Gleeson Road and Paradise Road for local access Pedestrian and bicycle provisions presented in the proposed upgrade for both stages include: wider road shoulders to allow for on-road cyclists pedestrian activated crossings at the new Paradise Road and Gleeson Road traffic signals upgrade of the existing traffic signals at the Graham Road and Lindsay Road intersections to facilitate pedestrian and cycle movements a new walkway on the bridge over the North Coast Railway line. Benefits Widened road shoulders of 2.5 metres will enable local residents and businesses fronting Morayfield Road to access their properties safely Minimal impacts on the surrounding state reserve, as the majority of works will be undertaken within the allocated road reserve New signals will be coordinated with the existing signals reducing through-traffic delays Improved safety and efficiency for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists.     Proposed project features Stage 1

    Pedestrian and bicycle provisions presented in the proposed upgrade for both stages include:

    • wider road shoulders to allow for on-road cyclists

    • pedestrian activated crossings at the new Paradise Road and Gleeson Road traffic signals

    • upgrade of the existing traffic signals at the Graham Road and Lindsay Road intersections to facilitate pedestrian and cycle movements

    • a new walkway on the bridge over the North Coast Railway line.

    Benefits
