(continued from page 1) “BBCHS continues to be a place where innovative
programming creates an environment where students thrive,” said Superin-
tendent, Dr. Scott Wakeley. “The implementations of an evidence-based
grading system and multi-tier system of support (MTSS) have made us a
leader among high schools in Illinois, equipping our students to perform
well academically.”
The Bronze ranking puts BBCHS among the best high schools in the coun-
try in key areas of academic performance, including college readiness. The
recognition comes in addition to other awards presented to the school this
year. In December, BBCHS posted a record 55 Illinois State Scholars: stu-
dents who rank in the top 10% of all students in Illinois based on ACT score
and academic rigor. Recently, the school was also awarded the 2016 Daily
Journal Progress Award for Excellence in Education, an honor reserved for
schools that demonstrate initiative and commitment to the community.
BBCHS continues to strive for excellence in education. By increasing the
number of AP courses available to students and eliminating lower-level
classes, the school is ensuring that all learners achieve at high levels.
“We want to constantly be progressing,” said BBCHS Director of Curricu-
lum and Instruction, Tiffany Kohl. “We need to model lifelong learning for
our students by continuing to challenge ourselves and innovate. We aren’t
done yet. Recognition affirms us and drives us, but we are by no means fin-
ished. We will continue to make changes that are in the best interest of
teaching and learning.”

The BBCHS Music Department won the IHSA State Championship on
April 22nd. A combined effort of band, orchestra and choir students, Boil-
er musicians earned 1,017 points at the Illinois High School Association’s
Music Sweepstakes for Class AA. Successful solo and ensemble perfor-
mances, followed by an outstanding large group performance, earned
BBCHS the impressive title, the fifth the department has won since 2010.
In March, future lawmakers from BBCHS traveled to Springfield to participate in the Illinois Youth & Government Assem-bly. Four Boilers ran for office and two
for committee chair roles, while 37 dele-gates worked to get their bills passed through legis-lation. Liz Ro-sene ran for Governor; Ryan Guerin, for Lieutenant Governor; Na-
than Pranger, for Secretary of State; Jar-rod Knapper for Executive Director of the Lobbyists and Yash Mehta and Adam Schroeder, for committee chairs. “While none of our stu-dents won their respec-tive position, all who attended gave their best effort and ran a good campaign,” noted staff sponsor Rachael Dovgin. legislative conferences, BBCHS dele-gates got four of their proposed five bills passed through legislation. Some of their legislation included laws to restrict the use of electronic devices by Illinois drivers, reduce the price of museums for Illinois residents, and control Asian Carp in Illinois waters. Three attorney teams, all of whom ranked in the top two courts, also rep-resented BBCHS at the March event. One team, Nadia Youssef and Blake Bradley, took 2nd place in their oral argument, an impressive feat in this statewide challenge. “All of our attorneys prepared very well and put in a lot of effort writing their bench memos and prepping for arguments.”
The annual Youth and Government trip provides stu-dents a realistic government expe-rience and em-powers them to give voice to their solutions.
