A Lighter Note

There once was a man and a

woman who had been

married for more than 60

years. They talked about

everything. They kept no

secrets from each other...

except that the old woman

had a shoe box in the top of

her closet that she cautioned

her husband never to open it

or ask her about it.

For all these years he had

never thought about the box,

but one day the little old

woman got very sick and the

doctor said she would never

recover.

In trying to sort out their

affairs the little old man took

down the shoe box and took it

to his wife's bedside. She

agreed it was time that he

should know what was in the

box.

When he opened it he found 2

beautifully crocheted doilies

and a stack of money totaling

over $25,000. He asked her

about the unusual contents.

"When we were married," she

said, " my grandmother told

me the secret of a happy

marriage was to never argue.

She told me that if I ever got

angry with you, I should just

keep quiet and crochet a

doily."

OUR STAFF

By: Mary White

A few years ago, I did a series of biographical articles to get us acquainted

with our staff. It’s time to do the same for the staff that have been added in

recent years.

ERIN GARLINGHOUUSE

Erin has worked at the center for almost three years. She was assigned to the

center by Senior Services of America who are contracted by the government to

place seniors in appropriate work places. Erin’s salary is also paid under that

contract. When I asked her wat her job title is , she laughed and said “Trenda’s

Gopher”. Erin has many duties and does whatever is requested of her with a

happy attitude and unending energy, that’s why I call her our energizer bunny.

Erin was born in Butte, Montana, the oldest child of the fifth generation of a

Butte family. She spent her entire life in Montana except when she traveled

from Butte to Virginia to Alaska and back to Butte with her husband. She has

two sons ages 50 & 46.

She graduated from the University of Montana at Missoula and was a Social

Worker for 30 years until she retired. After her husband passed away, her

children urged her to relocate to Thermopolis because her sister, who is also a

widow and lives here. She enjoys Thermopolis, but Butte will always be her

home & in her heart.

She enjoys everything & everyone at the center. She loves meeting & enjoying

so many people. Her favorite activities after going on excursions with us and

listening to the stories everyone tells about their families & the history of

Thermopolis.

When asked why she is so happy and upbeat, she gave a simple answer “It’s be-

cause Life needs to be happy.
