Mission Statement: The Mission of Montessori of Alameda Teacher Education Program (MOATEP) is to build a strong Montessori community committed to educating, preparing, and supporting teachers, professionals, and parents. The Montessori of Alameda Teacher Education Program, dedicated to educating Montessori teachers, has as its guiding values the fundamental principles upon which Maria Montessori based her philosophy. The same principles that pertain to children's education are applied whenever possible to adults. When this same philosophy is adhered to, adult learners taking the course will develop a love for knowledge of Montessori that will continue long past the completion of their certification. Classes are offered one weekend a month for 10 months. When the academic portion is complete students start a 9 month practicum at the school of their choice. Our Teacher Educators
Claire -Garcia Instructor
Claire is a graduate of Concordia University and holds a Master of Education. She has taught at the 3-6 level and Elementary level. She holds a MACTE 3-6 credential and an AMI Elementary credential. She has taugh Montessori since 2002.
Amy Gard- Instructor
Amy is a graduate of Xavier Univesrity with a B.A in French and International Studies. She holds an Master’s in Montessori Education, an AMS 6-9 credential and is the founder and owner of Concordia Montessori.
Meghin Gwin- Instructor
Megin has 3 AMI Montessori credentials, infant and toddler, 3-6 and elementary. She has taught at Montessroi schools through Portland and has years of experience at all three levels.
Tammy is the founder of the Montessori of Alameda School and the Montessori of Alameda Teacher Education Program. She is also the founder and served as the Board chair of the Ivy School, a Montessori tuition free Public School which opened in 2009. Most recently she opened the first sliding scale Montessori school in Portland called Maria’s Place. She holds MACTE/AMS Montessori credentials at both the infant and toddler and primary levels. She also holds an Art Degree from Brooks College and a CDA from PSU.
Padmini Alphonse- Program Director Instructor /Field Consultant
Padmini joined MOA in the fall of 2007. She has 18 years of experience as a teacher with children from ages 3 to 6. Padmini holds a B.A. degree in Religious Studies, teaching diplomas in Nursery Education from India and an American Montessori Society (AMS) certified diploma in Early Childhood Education.
Yosuany Gurrera- Instructor
Yosuany is a pediatrician who changed careers. He has an AMS Infant and Toddler credtential and is one of the first graduates of our Teacher Education Program. He currently operates Parkrose Montessori.
Julie Davis - Instructor
Julie Davis of a Peaceful Path Monteesori joins our team with an AMI Infant and Toddler credential, a Master’s Degree in Public Administration and a BA in Political Science. She has been teaching Montessori since 2009.
