The film I am looking at is Momento, the sequence is shown on rewind and we get to see a murder of a man and the after math before seeing what actually happened.
At 3 seconds in we start to see a picture of a mans hand holding onto a photo, the photo is already developed and we
can see that it’s a picture of a mans heads with blood splattered all on the wall behind. We cant see his face
expression but we can tell he's on edge due to his shaky hand movement.
From 3 seconds till 43 seconds we see this image on screen, and due to the fact the scene is being played in rewind, wee see the photo being developed in rewind so we see the full
photo first and then we see the in finished image last, this is important because we get to see what actually happened we
don’t have to guess.
This is the last shot of the undeveloped photo. I think that this is being shown backwards possible to reflect the main characters personality, he himself could be ‘backwards’ and the director has done this to show the type of person he is. All of the shot is shown through extreme close up.
At 1:20 we see him taking the photo and the photo is going back up into the camera. To me this is what's going though
the mans mind, he wishes that he had never did it and possible wants to take it all back and pretend that it never
happened.
This is a close up shot of his his face, this is the first time we see the man who took the photo and was holding it in his
hand. We can see he’s being in some kind of fight from the scratches on his face we also see maybe he's been crying,
showing us the reaction to the murder.
This is an extreme close up shot again, the camera is at a canted angle making us question what it is, we see that its blood and then link it back to the man in the picture, the blood is going very fast showing that the death was only
recent.
This is a close up shot of a bullet shell, this shows us that maybe the man was shot, the bulled moves, showing us that
it was only just recent when he was shot because its still moving as in it just feel to the floor.
This is the first time we see the man shot, is a close up of his head laying in a pool of blood, this shows that someone was
defiantly shot and that they are dead.
This is the gun that he shot the man with, its an extreme close up of the bullet come out the gun on impact.
This is the last shot in the sequence, it’s a extreme close up and the camera is panning up the mans face. Black and
white is a typical Film Noir convention and this is creating shadows on his face showing intensity and creating
suspense.
