6 LISVINNIE is one that we picked against last week in the belief that Bringhome Theblue would offer a better price and probably get off to a better start on a track that favours speed. Well, the track came up sloppy, there was a rare east wind (tailwind in the first and last quarters), speed held up nicely, and Bringhome Theblue did indeed get the jump on Lisvinne at much better odds. Were we lucky? Absolutely! Lisvinnie was shoved three-wide for much of the final turn and four-wide for the stretch drive and he came within an inch or two of nailing a fully extended Bringhome Theblue. We’ll gladly list him on top for the rematch.
9 BRINGHOME THEBLUE owes us nothing and yet we’re not prepared to go back to him in the search for four-in-a-row. He was on his hands and knees last week despite opening what appeared to be an insurmountable lead. While he retains the same driver in Jonathan Drury, a new trainer is calling the shots this week as he was claimed out of that last race for $20K.
5 JIMMY BE GOOD was so far up the track in his latest that we’ll attribute it to the sloppy track or some other anomaly and treat him as a serious contender now that he’s back on just seven days rest. The switch from the lowest conditioned class to this $15K to $20K claimer isn’t a big factor in our decision as this might actually be a tougher class.
8 SKY GUY will make his first start for Kyle Bossence who becomes the fifth trainer in as many weeks. Who said the claiming game was dead? I won’t rule out a quick turnaround (after just one loss) but I am leaning to others until Sky Guy proves himself at this particular level.
4 ROCKABELLA is the one that Louis Philippe Roy chose over Jojo Jove even though the latter got him to the winner’s circle last time out.

1 STIRLING BOUDICA was let go at 37-1 in his 10/16 Canadian debut and had it not been for a third quarter shuffle he would likely have pulled off a huge upset. Quite simply, he must not be let go at anywhere close to those odds while racing in mid-level conditioned races or a claimer like the one he’s in tonight. There’s no guarantee that he’ll be equally good if he has to do some of the heavy lifting but I do like the way he finished up once he split rivals.
3 AMICUS was claimed out of his 10/08 race by Rick Zeron’s longtime second trainer, Shayne Barrington. While Barrington hasn’t started many of his own, he has been in the game a long time and he obviously has a sharp eye for a trotter as this claim has worked out very nicely so far. Amicus is in a much tougher spot tonight but at least he has draw a vastly improved post. Further progress is possible.
4 MEGO MOSS is a 20-time winner who has been dividing his time between Mohawk and Flamboro where he hit the board in back-to-back starts but failed to win as the chalk as recently as 10/07 and was a recent vet scratch (sick). He took his lifetime record over this track and has been able to make the front from as far out as Post 10 so I won’t rule out a thing now that he has returned to a claimer and will face just six rivals.
7 NORTHERN STORMONT didn’t have much to offer in either of his last two in the higher-end conditioned ranks so here trainer MIke Vanderkemp has found him a little easier spot in a claiming handicap. Im not sure if this is the answer to his problems but it won’t hurt.
6 SKY LAV might be able to shake off the poor performance on 10/20 as he was much better when he raced at a lower level as recently as 10/10. Phil Hudon subbed last time but Trevor Henry returns tonight.

5 DONIZETTI made her Canadian debut on 10/23 when we commented that she would “either blow up or win handily.” Well, she did neither, but she was much closer to the win than “blowing up” so we’ll give her a second shot. She actually raced quite well as it took the favoured Gravitator to beat her and that filly had just made five straight appearances in OSS Golds, including the Superfinal for fillies. Granted, there was a rare tailwind on 10/23, but Donizetti’s 28.,1 last quarter was still impressive as it was a very wet track and even some decent pacers came nowhere close to that time in other races.
1 LADY GREY doesn’t have a great record when sent off as the favourite so we’ve made a conscious decision to pick against her. She may well stay flat, drive straight, and get the job done for just the second time in 14 starts (this year), but she won’t offer much in the way of value unless her odds float up considerably. We do approve of the switch to Zeron as he renowned for his prowess with troubled trotters. I’ll watch this time and hope that Zeron has some input that might make her a winner next time out.
6 ALERT HANOVER managed to win by six on 10/12, although those who watched the race will know that he might have missed the board completely had the leader not made a break at the top of the stretch and the pocket-sitter not encountered major equipment issues.
3 MISSLAROSE isn’t a great candidate for the win but I can see her finishing fairly close as she has cashed a Show ticket in 6 of 13 starts. Last time out she took the long way around and finished third, beaten by not one but two 9-5 shots, including the Per Henriksen-trained Upvote Hanover.
4 TAMMY JO will probably need a few more starts before she wins at NW2, but like Misslarose she should get a good share. I like the fact that she’s generally close to the pace but not a “need for speed” type.

7 VEROI BAYAMA returns to the WEG circuit after an extended period in Eastern Ontario, Quebec and even PEI. When he last raced here in April he was a $10K claimer for trainer Jean Francois Maguire. Prior to that he had a second, fourth and fifth in three starts at this level when trained by Katie Gangell. Not too long before that it was Steven Hudon who put his 1:52 lifetime record on him. What does all this mean? Well, he’s not exactly a superstar, but I do think he can make a successful return to this circuit under the guidance of .367 trainer Luc Loyer and catch driver Sylvain Filion.
2 AMBLE OVER HANOVER didn’t appear to have much left at the end of his last mile so we’re going to play against him at the risk of missing a fairly low priced winner. Just two back he got by six in the last quarter to win a similar race over Mohawk which is much kinder on closers. I’d feel a lot more confident had he won more than one race this year.
3 DONT TELL RUSTY is one that we’re intrigued with even though we’ve never seen him race and know nothing more about him than what can be gleaned from his lifetime past performance history. He wasn’t an instant hit for current trainer Joe Cirasuola and he hasn’t raced since 09/22 so he’s probably risky at best. On a slightly more positive note, he is a 26-time winner who raced as high as the Open at Northfield Park early this year. Beware!
ON THIS DATE… 1994 – Village Jiffy (Paul MacDonell) won the Stewart Fraser Memorial at Northlands Park 2004 – Sylvain Filion notched his 4,000th win with Oceania Angus at Hippodrome Montreal. 2004 – Tigerama (Terry Kerr) won the Hall of Fame Pace at Western Fair Raceway

1 SINGLE WHITE SOCK might be able to get something going now that he has found his way into the NW2500L5 class. He’ll certainly find these a lot easier than the likes of Shadow Place, Machal Jordan and others who he has faced at NW6000L5. While some of his recent efforts have been lacklustre at best, he did work very hard in the 10/21 race that drove a win off the bottom of his last five starts. I rarely back horses that are 1-for-34 but this is a reasonable exception with McNair and an inside post.
3 MACH MESSIER got some serious class relief on 10/23 and yet his odds didn’t drop nearly as much as one might expect. That had a lot to do with the fact that he was stuck out in Post 10 and the rail starter, Jimmy Be Good, was pounded down to even-money. Mach Messier raced pretty well but was simply no match for the winner or the fast closing runner-up. Maybe this time!
5 MR DESTRUCTION is coming out of the same race as Mach Messier and he actually beat MM in that race, although not by much. While it’s tough to separate these two, one thing in this guy’s favour is the fact that his trainer is batting .354.
7 BEACH HOUSE didn’t have a lot to offer last week when sent off as the favourite and quite frankly I don’t see him winning this race, either. In fact he wasn’t going to be one of my top four picks until the scratch time revelation that Filion took him over Think Again. Perhaps Sylvain has a good idea while Beach House was so ineffective.
2 THINK AGAIN could surprise in his third start for trainer Joe Pereira. He’s been rather disappointing in $15K-$20K claimers but here he meets conditioned types who have equally ineffective.

7 TAURUS DU PARC capitalized on the mistakes of others on 10/16 and came away with a half-length win over fellow 7-1 shot Swan For Dee. Who knows, he may have won had three of the other seven starters not made breaks but it certainly got a lot easier when they did. There isn’t a lot to separate Taurus Du Park, Swan For Dee or even The Power of Many but we’ll side with this one for the simple reason that he was good enough to win for one of the amateur drivers who were in town on 10/16 and here he’ll be driven by one of the best, Sylvain Filion.
4 THE POWER OF MANY came very close to winning the aforementioned race with Taurus Du Park and Swan For Dee on 10/16 but in losing by a half length she let the public down for a seventh consecutive start. It wouldn’t be fair to pin that loss on amateur driver David Glasser as even catch driver Louis Philippe Roy failed to get this one across when favoured in previous starts against similar.
1 SWAN FOR DEE isn’t as hopeless as the 10/23 result might suggest. I’ll cut her some slack as the track came up sloppy and that may have had something to do with her inside trip and 10th place finish. Mind you, she doesn’t show a single parked-out symbol on her last six lines and that raises the possibility that she could be vulnerable to another shuffle if she’s not careful.
9 HOLIDAY HOLLY went a long way on the front in her recent debut for trainer Mike Smith. I’d be willing to give her a shot if she left from mid-gate but from out here it gets a little more complicated. Still, she’s worth considering if none of the inside starters strike your fancy.
8 LODI DORIAN BLUES got 3-1 support in his 10/23 debut for Vanderkemp so he might be worth a shot if the odds shoot up dramatically after a break. I’m willing to watch and wait, however.

6 SASS looks like the one to beat now that he has dropped down below the level at which he was last a winner on 08/28. He did his time in the company of Libertarian, LMC Mass Oak, Catch The Dream, P L Jill and Hill Of A Colt and now it's payback time! I don’t see any others that I like any better on this card so we’ll slap Sass with the “Most Probable Winner” label.
3 GOLD MEDAL SWAN should appreciate the drop from NW4 ($19K purse) to NW4000L5 ($12K purse) and of course the switch to Trevor Henry won’t hurt. This is a horse who was competitive at the Meadowlands in July and who did win the NW3 class on this circuit back in March.
9 MYRETIREMENTTICKET might have been second best in his most recent race but at least it was second best to a horse like Totally Ripped who was the 3-5 favourite based on his recent class drop. Here Myretirmentticket gets a second shot at the level and he has obviously dodged Totally Ripped.
7 ITS HUW YOU KNOW is the one who made the sacrificial first-over move in the aforementioned race with Myretirmentticket and the front-striding Totally Ripped. He was no better when allowed to front the field on 10/10 so perhaps it’s a little more complicated than just finding the right trip.

2 PREPPY ART is one that we underestimated when he took a significant class hike to contest NW3 in the 10/14 race that involved the mandatory payout of Mohawk’s Jackpot Hi-5 pool. He was driven a lot more aggressively than our pick (and race favourite) Dubious Claim and it showed in the result. Phil Hudon subbed for McNair last time when Preppy Art moved up to NW4 and the result wasn’t nearly as good. I’m prepared to overlook that sixth place finish now that he has drawn a much better post with McNair turning down Speedling to drive this one for his father (even though Hudon was named from the outset).
5 MAKASI didn’t win his first of 2017 until 10/07 and even then it took a great trip behind a suspect leader. He wasn’t quite so lucky with the inside trip on 10/13 and narrowly missed the board and then last week he wound up second in a close finish but just couldn’t close the door on Fancourt. He’s a contender but a standout by no means.
3 XTERNAL has been close in most of his recent races and in fact he may have hit the board in each of his last five if not for the break at the gate on 10/07. He doesn’t look that great from a value standpoint unless his odds spike considerably.
8 SPEEDLING was much the best when he contested the NW25000L5 class on 10/23. I’m not counting on back-to-back wins as he has moved up a notch, out to post 8, and Doug McNair has abandoned him in fauve of Preppy Art.
4 D J POWER was second best to Speedling in their last encounter. He might be able to reverse that order of finish now that he has raced once since June. There’s upset potential here.

6 FOUR CARD MAJOR failed to hold off Aphro Star in his latest, although it wasn’t until the final stride that Aphro Star finally got by and then it was after a very nice third over trip on Four Card Major’s back. Had the trips been reversed, I suspect the result would have been a little different as well. There isn’t a lot to separate these two based on that one race but if you look back through FCM’s lines you’ll see that he has had the upper hand in that ongoing fight and it was Oforpetesake who finished second to FCM in three consecutive races.
4 APHRO STAR does deserve some credit for that recent win as he did come from a little further back on a track that is generally kind to speed. He generally races on or near the lead so it seemed odd that Trevor Henry would get into a WWE-worthy wrestling match with this guy as the crossed under the wire the first time. The fact that he did win speaks to Henry;’s ability to read the situation and make the right move many more times than not.
7 OFORPERESAKE had racked up three consecutive second place finishes behind Four Card Major before settling for third in her latest encounter. I do like the fact that he finished up with interest as he had been shuffled around the last turn and through to mid-stretch. A week earlier (10/16) he was blocked behind a wall of horses at the mid-stretch marker and eventually four-wide to salvage second. One of these times he’ll actually get the win and the payoff will be worth the wait for those who have donated once or twice.
3 TOP DESIRE wouldn’t be the first horse to come up with a win after a few starts in the Colin Johnson barn. I don’t know what it will take to reverse the finish of the 10-/16 race but I suppose anything is possible in a short field such as this.
1 WINDSONG LORD will need something other than the first-over trip that he had last week if he’s to significantly improve on that fourth place finish.

4 ROCKIN RONNIE is one that we underestimated on 10/16 when we noted that he looked like a contender but would be hard pressed to find an easier trip than the one he was treated to on 10/10. That was a major miscalculation on our part. First of all, he didn’t have the easiest of trips on 10/10 as he had to swing three-wide to clear his cover. He also towed the race winner into contention in a race that set up for a closer. We took that into account when picking him to win on 10/23 but unfortunately he was just too far back and shoved a little too wide on the last turn to catch the fired-up Gotameeting who was extra good on the lead. In picking him to reverse that order of finish, I’m hoping that Phil Hudon will be able to tuck him in behind Gotameeting and stay just a wee bit closer to the pace.
3 GOTAMEETING had no intentions of letting Chaleurs Ad go when they were both launched off the gate in their most recent showdown and he had to pace splits of 12.4, 25.4 and 55.2 before Chaleurs Ad finally backed away. Many a horse would have carried on to perhaps the three-quarter pole before checking out but Gotameeting stayed strong to mid-stretch and somehow managed to find the wire just in time. It was a little different story when Rockin Ronnie had the upper hand on 10/16, however.
1 ROSE RUN RANGER is back for a second shot at claimers only this time it will be for trainer Corey Johnson who plucked him out of a similar race on 10/23. This one would be a good option for those who believe the old adage “a change is as good as a rest” for he had been in the same barn for every one of his 42 lifetime starts.
9 TRISUN might have trouble beating both of the top two picks or even squeezing in between them if forced into another first-over trip, but if he can find the right helmet to follow anything is possible.
10 PRO PLAY has some upside potential with Trevor Henry getting the scratch time call up as Pro Play is about to make his third start for .340 trainer Isaac Waxman.

EXPLANATION OF THE LASIX PROGRAMAfter careful study and consultation with Ontar io Horsemen’s groups, racetrack operators and veterinarians, Agriculture Canada and theAlcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario passed legislation allowing the controlled (or supervised) administration of furosemide, more commonly called“Lasix”. “Lasix” is used to alleviate the symptoms of exercise induced pulmonary hemorrhaging in racing horses.Horses will undergo an endoscopic examination of the trachea by a veterinarian licensed by the Ontario Racing Commission and endorsedby an official veterinarian before being allowed on the medication list. Once qualified, horses will be treated with “Lasix” within four hoursplus or minus 15 minutes of a scheduled race in a secure retention area under the super vision of racing officials. All horses on “Lasix” must remain on the program for a minimum of 100 days while racing in this jurisdiction. C.P.M.A. Regulation Changes Effective January 1st 2012CPMA will be instituting several new rule changes with regards to the following pari-mutuel pools: Pick Pools• If there are no winners in any leg of a Pick N pool, the entire pool is refunded. • If there is a change of surface in any leg that is NOT made known to the public
prior to wagering for that pool closing, that leg will pay on all runners. • A pool is no longer refunded if the 1st leg in the pool is cancelled or declared no
contest. • Pick-3: If at least 2 legs are declared no contest or cancelled, the pool is refunded. • Pick-4, 5 or 6: If at least 3 legs are declared no contest or cancelled, the pool is
refunded.
RULES AND INFORMATION REGARDING CANADIAN HARNESSAND FOREIGN SEPARATE POOL EVENTS
GENERAL All pari-mutuel pools are calculated and distributed in accordance with the regulations and directives as issued by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (“the Regulations”), under the approval and supervision of the Canadian Pari-Mutuel Agency. The Canadian Pari-Mutuel Agency can be contacted at 1-800-268-8835 or 613-759-6100 or Email: [email protected]. A complete version of the CPMA regulations can be found at http://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/regulations/SOR-91-365/All tickets should be held until the result of the race is declared official and prices are posted. No person under the age of 18 shall purchase or cash a ticket or voucher. A claim of receiving an incorrect payment or incorrect change must be made to the Mutuel office of the association within twenty four hours of buying or cashing a valid ticket or voucher. No ruling made by the Stewards/Judges or the Ontario Racing Commission with regard to distribution of purse money or the placing of horses in the order of finish, after the race has been declared official, shall have any bearing on the pay-out prices or distribution of pari-mutuel pools. Change boards and Photo Finish display monitors are located in the Grandstand. In addition, Photo Finish pictures are shown on the closed-circuit television system. Customers are reminded that mutuel clerks are responsible for all shortages. When making a wager, customers must present sufficient funds at the time of purchase to cover the wagers requested. ENTRIES AND MUTUEL FIELDS “Entry” means two or more horses in the same race which, for the purpose of pari-mutuel betting, are coupled or considered as the same betting interest. The most common reason for the coupling of horses in an Entry is the fact that they are owned by the same person. “Mutuel Field” means two or more horses in the same race which, for the purpose of pari-mutuel betting, are coupled because the number of horses in the race exceeds the number which can be handled separately by the pari-mutuel system. Subject to the Regulations, a bet on one horse of an Entry or Mutuel Field shall be considered a bet on all horses in that Entry or Mutuel Field. DAILY DOUBLE BETTING (INCLUDING LATE DOUBLE) A Daily Double bet is a betting transaction in which a purchaser of a ticket undertakes to select the official winners of each of the two races specified for the Daily Double. Tickets not selecting the winner of the first half of the Daily Double and all tickets in the second half of the Daily Double not coupled with the declared official winner of the first half of the Daily Double are not winners and are not refunded no matter what circumstances affect the running of the second half of the Daily Double. Should a horse or horses (not coupled with another starter) be excused from starting in the second race of the Daily Double after the first race of the Daily Double has closed for betting, holders of all Daily Double tickets on such horses, coupled with the winner of the first Daily Double race, shall participate in a Consolation Double pool. (Effective Jan 1, 2012 EXACTA (Also known as Exactor)/TRIFETA (Also known as Triactor)/SUPERFECTA An Exacta, Trifecta, Superfecta is a betting transaction in which a purchaser of a ticket undertakes to select the first two, three and four horses respectively, representing different betting interests to finish in the exact official order of finish, in the race on which the pool is operated. The above stated pools on races that have an entry (i.e. 1 & 1A and/or 2 & 2B) will not offer a wager combining both halves of the same betting interest. Example: If the same betting interest finishes first and second in an Exacta wager, the Exacta payout will be on first and third. JACKPOT HI-5 A Jackpot Hi-5 bet is a betting transaction in which a purchaser of a ticket undertakes to select the exact order of finish of the first 5 runners in the specified Jackpot Hi-5 race. If there are races that have an entry, (i.e. 1 & 1A and/or 2 & 2B), Jackpot Hi-5 will not offer a wager consisting of both halves of the same betting interest. Example: If the same betting interest finishes first and second in a Jackpot Hi-5, the payout would be 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th. That jackpot portion of the pool will only be paid out if there is a single winning ticket. If there are multiple winning tickets that have correctly chosen the first 5 runners of the race, they will receive 50% of the pool for that day. The other 50% will go over into the Jackpot carryover. If there are no winning tickets with the exact order of finish of the first 5 runners, 100% of the current day’s pool will be carried over into the Jackpot. PICK 3, PICK 4 AND PICK 5 BETTING The Pick 3, Pick 4 and Pick 5 bets are betting transactions in which a purchaser of a ticket undertakes to select the official winners of each of three, four or five successive races specified for the Pick 3, Pick 4 or Pick 5 respectively. Winning tickets for the Pick 3, Pick 4 and Pick 5 are determined in the following sequence: A) winners of all legs, B) most winners, then refund. If there is a change of surface in any leg that is NOT made known to the public prior to wagering for that pool closing, that leg will pay on all runners. If there are no winners in any leg of a pool, the entire pool is refunded. PICK 3, PICK 4 & PICK 5 SCRATCHES In the event a Pick 3, Pick 4 or Pick 5 ticket designates as a selection a horse which is scratched, excused or determined by the Stewards/Judges to be a non-starter in any of the races comprising the Pick 3, Pick 4 or Pick 5 the favourite, as evidenced by the amount wagered in the win pool at the time of the start of the race in which the scratch occurred, will be substituted for the non-starting selection. In the event that the money bet in the win pool for two or more favourites is identical, the selection with the lowest program number shall be substituted for the non-starting selection. However, if a scratch occurs in any leg of the Pick 3, Pick 4 or Pick 5 pools before the pool is closed, a ticket including the scratched horse may be cancelled. REFUNDS Subject to the Regulations, all monies in all pools on a race are refunded in the event that the race is cancelled, declared off or declared no contest, and all monies bet on a horse are refunded if the horse is a late scratch or does not receive a fair start. These refunds will be communicated to the public through various means such as betting terminals, video display, changes boards and our website. The Pick(n) pool shall be cancelled and all Pick(n) wagers for the individual performance shall be refunded if:
• Pick-3: at least 2 legs are declared no contest or cancel. (Effective Jan 1, 2012) • Pick-4, 5 or 6: at least 3 legs are declared no contest or cancel. (Effective Jan 1, 2012)
Where a horse that is part of an Entry is a late scratch or does not receive a fair start and at least one horse of that Entry receives a fair start in the race, all tickets purchased on the Entry remain valid and the purchase price of any such ticket shall not be refunded. COMMON POOL WAGERING (INTERTRACK BETTING) In the unlikely event of a communications or computer system failure that prevents pools from merging with the host track’s pools before the end of a race, CPMA regulations require that the site must refund all tickets for that race. This refund will be communicated to the public through various means such as video displays, change boards and messages on our website. FAIR START If a horse has reached the Fair Start Pole (located 200 feet before the Starting Pole) by the time the mobile gate has reached the Starting Pole, that horse is deemed to have had a fair start. It makes no difference whether or not the horse is on or off stride at that precise moment. Under current policy and regulations, which are designed to be as fair as possible to all bettors on all starters, there is no Recall - a repeat of the entire starting procedure - when a horse does not reach the Fair Start Pole before the gate reaches the Starting Pole. Monies bet on such a horse are refunded in accordance with the regulation concerning refunds. LOST & OLD TICKETS WEG issued tickets or vouchers are valid indefinitely, however, they cannot be cashed at a mutuel teller after 2 years from date of issue. Please mail tickets, along with your name and address, to Mutuel Manager, P.O. Box 156, Rexdale, Ontario, M9W 5L2, keeping a photocopy for future reference. For “Lost Tickets” originally sold at a Woodbine Entertainment Group racetrack or Teletheatre, please enquire at the Mutuel office at Woodbine, Greenwood Teletheatre, or Mohawk.
