LO: To understand how to edit what the writing contains to make it even better.

Monday 8st February 2021

Page 49: Monday 8 February

Now we have written our own reports lets think about ways to edit and improve before we can publish it. Just like a professional writer would!

Read the following passage, what mistakes can you spot?

• Your task: Copy out the passage in your neatest handwriting, make sure you correct the spellings and punctuations first.

• Experts: Some of the language is very dull. Can you improve using spicy vocabulary? E.g. hot fire ferocious fire

on 2nd September 1666 a hot fire started in London. hte Lord Mayor ddn’t think there wos a need for gettin pepl out of bed so he went back to sleep The next dai the roaring fire had spread across the hole of london so the poor public have to fight the fighr themselves. Fire extinguishers were not available so instead thay had to use hand squirts and buckets. It was a sad sight and seemed lik it would neva end

Page 50: Monday 8 February

Check if you have corrected all of the errors:

• On 2nd September 1666 a hot fire started in London. The Lord Mayor didn’t think there was a need for getting people out of bed so he went back to sleep. The next day the roaring fire had spread across the hole of London so the poor public have to fight the fire themselves. Fire extinguishers were not available so instead they had to use hand squirts and buckets. It was a sad sight and seemed like it would never end.
