While we can’t do Sports Day all together this year, here are some Sports Day activities you can do at

home.

Traffic lights: In a large open playing area, each child finds their own space where they are not in contact with anyone else. On a signal (coloured card or by shouting the commands), the children move around the playing area in response to the following commands. Turn it into a game of moving statues to make it more challenging.

• Red: stop• Amber: walk• Green: run

Here is a video of Traffic Lights.

Tennis ball Challenge: You need a partner for this one: one person throws while the other counts. The aim is to throw the ball against the wall and catch it again as many times as possible in thirty seconds.

Here is a video of the Tennis Ball Challenge.

Thursday 18th June

Page 22: Monday 15th June - infantschoolmourneroad.net · Comhrá: Cliceaíl anseo chun éisteacht leis na haoiseanna atá againn! Click here to listen to how to pronounce the ages we are

Through the Gate: You need a partner and a ball for this one: stand on a spot facing your partner who is also standing on a spot 5-10 metres away. Set up a gatebetween the pair using two cones (or bags/jumpers etc). Kick the ball to your partner through the gate. One point is awarded for each person that successfully kicks the ball through the gate. If you don’t have a partner, you could play the game off a wall.

Here is a video of Through the Gate.

Egg/Potato & Spoon Race: Just need a spoon, a hard boiled egg/potato and someone to race. Video here. Sack Race: Just need a sack/big bag, some cones (bags/jumpers) to race around and someone to race. Video here.

Friday 19th June

Rock Paper Scissors Tag: You need a partner for this game: Stand 1 meter apart and face each other.

Begin by performing a rock-paper-scissors routine. A rock is a closed fist, paper is a flat hand, and scissors are the index and middle fingers in a cutting position. Paper always covers rock, rock breaks scissors, and scissors cut paper. To determine a winner, pupils count to three and form a rock, paper, or scissors. The winning pupil then chases their partner toward their safety line, attempting to tag them before they are safe.

Here is a video of Rock Paper Scissors Tag.

Knock ‘em Down Pinball: Line up skittles (can be cans of beans, plastic bottles, or empty cereal boxes) in a row and stand 10 meters away from the row. Take it in turns to throw a ball at the skittles, aiming to knock over as many as you can.

Here is a video of Knock ‘em Down Pinball.

Friday 19th June

Bowling: Line up five skittles as a target (can be cans of beans, plastic bottles, or empty cereal boxes) 10 meters away from them. Take it in turns to roll 3 balls each at the skittles, aiming to knock over as many as you can. All bowlers take a turn and then replaced the knocked skittles. Keep your score. The person that knocks over the most skittles wins.

Here is a video of Bowling.

Kick to Score: Ask an adult to help you to draw or stick target areas at various heights on a wall.Points should be placed in the centre of each target from one to five. Give yourself a score to achieve e.g. 10. Kick the ball at the targets on the wall to achieve that score

Here is a video of Kick to Score.

Musical statues: Just need some music, someone to stop the music and someone to play against: dance while the music plays, make a statue when it stops. Whoever can

stay a statue the longest, wins!.
