BERWICK CAMPUSMonash Berwick campus update

Some of you might be aware that Monash University has made the decision to cease teaching at the Berwick campus prior to the end of 2018. We were eager to find another provider to continue in the Berwick region so we are happy to announce that, subject to government approvals, Federation University Australia has been selected by Monash to take over the campus to provide a range of tertiary education options better suited to the Berwick region.

Monash students enrolled at Berwick will continue to be taught by Monash staff and, subject to meeting the normal requirements, graduate with a Monash degree. Some current Monash students may remain at Berwick in 2017, while others will gradually transfer to our Peninsula and Clayton campuses to complete their courses.

Monash will not be accepting new students to the Berwick campus in 2017. It is important to note that the majority of courses previously delivered at Berwick will still be offered by Monash but at our other campuses.

2017 SCHOLARSHIPSWith Monash’s substantial scholarship programs, students can access a range of services and financial assistance over the course of their degree. Many scholarships offer one-off payments while others continue for the length of the course.

Merit scholarships

Merit scholarships are awarded based on academic achievement and have both financial and academic benefits with up to $34,000 and guaranteed membership to some of Monash’s exclusive mentoring and leadership programs.

FACULTY UPDATES

BUSINESSNew three-year double degree with Monash Business School

Our city based Bachelor of International Business can now be combined as a double degree with the Bachelor of Business, which means students have the opportunity to complete two undergraduate degrees in three years. This is an excellent chance for students who have taken a gap year and are waiting to start university.

Students can combine their international business degree with a Bachelor of Business and major in one of the following:

■■ Accounting

■■ Banking and finance

■■ Business law

■■ Business management

■■ Human resource management

■■ Marketing

■■ Taxation

A major in the following requires four years of study:

■■ Statistics

■■ Economics

■■ Business strategy

How it does it work?

This new course innovation is made possible because the Bachelor of International Business has three teaching periods per year.

MEDICINE, NURSING AND HEALTH SCIENCESAddress real health challenges with the Bachelor of Public Health Science

Are your students passionate about promoting good health, preventing disease or managing illness and disability? Encourage them to consider our Bachelor of Public Health Science, the public health specialisation now located within the Bachelor of Health Sciences parent course.

Our course provides a solid foundation in health science, with a broad overview of health care and skill development in identifying, investigating, analysing and assessing health issues. Specialist public health science studies start in semester two of their second year, with studies including epidemiology, biostatistics, health program planning, and health-data management. With a global orientation, this course is taught by passionate teachers, who are experts in real-world public health challenges.

Graduating with Monash’s highly respected Bachelor of Public Health Science qualification provides students with rewarding career opportunities in public health research, disease prevention, health promotion, or health planning and management. Your students will be able to play a leading role in the promotion of health and management of disease, and have a positive impact on improving local and global health outcomes.

FACULTY UPDATES

ENGINEERING A world first campaign that takes engineering to new, creative heights.

We encourage you to share the following news with your students, and for them to come to the Engineering Precinct on Open Day, to get a glimpse of our Solution Lab.

So, what’s it all about?

In the future, engineers will be instrumental in helping us navigate our way through technologically and environmentally precarious times, and, their intrinsic creativity will be vital too. After all, finding creative solutions is what engineers do best.

Produced by Monash Engineering in partnership with NKN Gallery and Local Peoples, we’re reaching out to the next solution generation of engineers - those who are problem solvers, solution seekers and future finders. We’re working with our students to produce solutions to problems, big or small, that have been submitted and crowd sourced via our website: areyougens.com.au

A selection of these will be curated and exhibited during Open Day on 7 August at Clayton campus.

During November, all 10 engineering specialisations will showcase a solution at a unique exhibition called Future Finders. It’s a celebration of engineering and creative thinking. The exhibition will cover three different themes – innovation and sustainability, women in engineering, and art and design.

INFORMATION TECHNOLOGYDiscover the wearable world of IT during Open Day

sensiLab, Monash Information Technology's innovative tech-based research centre, will be taking over the Gallery One space on Open Day at Caulfield. The exhibition will showcase data gathering projects, developed by researchers in partnership with Monash Art, Design and Architecture.

‘The Quantified Self – Life Hacking in the Internet Age’, is an exhibit that will explore how the quantified self-movement has driven changes in the way we view and deliver art and design, anthropological and sociological frameworks, physical optimisation, and technological advancement as a whole.

Literally 'testing on humans', the prototypes on show delve into GPS mapped stress patterns, 3D printed 'thought forms' and biosensored monitorisation in a virtual reality environment.

The exhibition is designed to provoke questions and stimulate ideas about the role of technology in determining and liberating our behaviour.
