King’s Naonal Breast Screening Training Centre & London South Bank University Clinical Breast Examinaon and Communicaon Skills W/C 5th of October 2020 (2 days, exact days TBC) This module is two days plus one addional day for a praccal session in the breast symptomac clinic. The module is designed for clinicians and advanced praconers working in the clinical area of breast diagnosis. It will provide the range of clinical skills necessary for good pracce and develop the students ability to communicate effecvely with paents in their care. Learning objectives: At the end of this module the student will be able to: Evidence a high level knowledge of anatomy and physiology of the breast Evaluate and clinically examine a patient (female or male) presenting to a breast unit Be able to synthesise information and produce a comprehensive report on a clinical breast examination, using “1-5” classification, according ‘best practise clinical guide- lines’ Engage in sound clinical reasoning and effective decision making, resulting in appro- priate actions for further clinical intervention Demonstrate effective communication to minimise the distress of patients attending a breast unit Elicit record and assess the relevance of a patients clinical history and identify those aspects with the potential to impact on patient outcome All enquires to Marta, please email [email protected] Module Informaon Entry requirements: -Registration with professional body (HCPC/NMC/GMC) -Employment within or access to a UK Breast Unit to enable sufficient access to practice -Support of employing department -If you’ve not studied in the UK before and English is not your first lan- guage you will need to meet London South Bank University IELTS cri- teria (International English Language Testing System). Post-registration Scheme This is a 20 credit module within the Pg Breast Imaging Pathway. Further modules are offered to enable students to attain a Postgraduate Diploma or MSc in Diagnostic Imaging: Mammography theory, Mammography practice, Mammography Image Interpretation and Reporting, Breast Ultrasound and Ultrasound Guided Interventional Procedures.
