Presidents Message

Dear Model A Friends,

Greetings!

We are now well into springtime in central Oklahoma, so let’s enjoy our beautiful scenery while driving our Model A’s.

Many of the club members drove to Norman to attend the 89er Day Pa-rade on April 30th. The 89er Day Parade committee really appreciated our attendance and presented each attending Model A with a 2011 89er Day Parade participation ribbon. The ribbons were a nice gesture. The parade pictures are on our club website.

Make sure to attend the upcoming Armed Forces Day Parade in Del City on May 14th. Parade begins at 10:00AM.

We are planning a “Spring BBQ at Joe’s” on Saturday, June 11th. Each member is asked to bring a covered dish. Joe and Audra will be furnishing the delicious Bar-B-Q. Thank you Joe and Audra! We will start a little later, at 2:00pm because many of our club members will just be arriving back in town from the Regional MAFCA Tour in Over-land Park, Kansas.

“600W” oil was used in Model-A transmissions, differentials, and steering boxes when they were first manu-factured. No doubt that in their early years the proper lubrication was used. The “600W” was manufactured and distributed by suppliers for use in Model-A’s for many years-then things changed! The oil marketed to-day as “600W” is nowhere near the same viscosity (“600W” was not, by the way, the actual viscosity of the oil, it was just called that). It was closer to 240 wt. Suppliers today offer oil that is called “600W” but it does not come close to 240wt oil. Combining the “600W” oil sold by suppliers today with STP motor oil additive (on a 50/50 basis) produces a reasonable substitute for “600W” oil. Straight STP (used by some) is generally
