MODEL TRAINING CYCLETRAINING FOR TIMOTHY

“Hold fast the pattern of sound words which you have heard from me, in faith and love which are in Christ Jesus. That good thing which was committed to you, keep by the Holy Spirit who dwells in us.” (2 Timothy 1:13,14) Training that reproduces generations of disciples, leaders and churches follows a pattern, or MODEL. The apostle Paul gave Timothy a model to imitate that was reproduced over and over again in others. (2 Tim. 2:2)

Paul said, “Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ.” (I Corinthians 11:1)

The MODEL process for training comes from New Testament patterns taught /modeled by Jesus, the apostles and Paul. If we want to see churches reproducethemselves and multiply, we must intentionally train for reproduction.We must model a Biblical pattern that is easily imitatedand reproduced…

MODELHow did Paul leave a reproducing church in Thessalonica after onlythree weeks? (Acts 17:1-10) He left a pattern for them to follow…

Model “…you became followers of us and of the Lord…” (1 Thess. 1:5,6)

Observe “…you became examples to all…we do not need to say anything.” (1 Thess. 1:7,8)

Delegate “…commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.” (2 Tim. 2:2)

Encourage “But you must continue in the things which you have

learned…” and (2 Tim. 3:10-17)

Leave “For this reason I left you…appoint elders in every city…” (Titus 1:5-9)“For from you the word of the Lord has sounded forth, not only in

Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place.” (1 Thess. 1:8a)

MODEL

“Therefore I urge you, imitate me. For this reason I have sent Timothy to you, who is my beloved and faithful son in the Lord, who will remind you of my ways in Christ, as I teach everywhere in every church.”

(1 Corinthians 4:16,17)

Paul’s “ways in Christ” were taught everywhere in every church through reproducing disciples like

Timothy…

-Teaching for knowledge: a body of knowledge is the curriculum.

+Training for obedience/reproduction: a person (their life) is the curriculum.

Jesus said, “Follow Me…” and… I am the way, the truth and the life…”Paul said, “Imitate me just as I also imitate Christ.”

We must teach the word of God from our life experience, not only our knowledge. Our relationship with God and our life in Christ is a model for others to follow. Our disciples (trainees) follow our example, just as we follow Christ. They are following how we teach as much as what we teach…
