Fittings for Teflon Interior HoseWe stock a variety of reuseable hose end fittingssuitable for (TFE) Teflon interior hose. ReuseableTFE hose ends are 3 piece constructionconsisting of: nipple (main fitting part), sleeve(olive), and socket (nut). Most are constructed inmild STEEL with a plated sliver or gold finish.Applications for TFE hose are: hydraulic brake &clutch, fuel & oil pressure gauges, power steering, nitrous oxide, suspension shock, and fire systemplumbing. Hose and fittings are available in AN -3, -4, -6, -8 sizes, with AN -3 and -4 being mostpopular.
Banjo Fittings for -3AN / -4AN TFE HoseWe can supply a wide range of banjo fittings for teflon lined (TFE) hose.Common applications include: high pressure hydraulic brake & clutch lines, turbo oil feed lines, fuel & oil pressure gauge lines, nitrous lines. Banjos areavailable in male (to connect to female hose ends) or direct to hose versions. The "series" refers to the "ball" end size: series 1 ball end diameter (a) =.650-700" and profile across flats (b) = .325"- .400"; series 2 ball end diameter(a) = .750" and profile across flats (b) = .450"-.500".

Conventional, rubber with textile reinforcement, brake hoses allow a significant amount of volumetricexpansion- that is, they swell under pressure. This can lead to poor "pedal feel" which is unacceptable forcompetition applications. For these reasons, smooth bore PTFE (Teflon™) hose with a stainless steelbraided exterior is used for most high performance brake hose, and hydraulic, applications. Benefits to thistype of hose are its low weight, high strength & temperature capability and resistance to road hazard damage.Common brand types are: Aeroquip "TFE Racing Hose" or 2807, "Moquip TFE", Aeroquip Aerospace"666", Speed-Flex "600" & "411". Hose can be used with either reusable, or permanent swage, type fittings. All fittings can be interchanged between brands with the exception of Aeroquip Aerospace. Popularapplications for TFE hose are: hydraulic brake & clutch, fuel & oil pressure gauges, nitrous oxide, suspensionshock, and fire system plumbing. Hose and fittings are available in AN -3, -4, -6, -8 sizes, with AN -3 and -4being most popular.

Things to KnowBefore getting into the next section of hose fittings and adaptors, it would be a good idea to review the terms andspecifications listed below.
Under Head Length Distance from under hex to end of fitting or flair- important when threading into (female) ports sothe fitting does not "bottom" on the hex prior to contacting the flair sealing surface.
Seals on Thread Taper contact seal with sealant or tape (NPT).Seals on Flair -using one of each (concave & convex) flair to seal- angle may vary, but needs to be consistent between both sealing surfaces.
Convex Male flair seals common on -AN (male) and some metric (male) unionsand some threaded ports. Convex male > seals on > Concave female
Concave Female flair seal common on -AN hose ends, most metric (male) unionsand some threaded ports. Concave male < seals on < Convex female
Flat -no sealing surface; use crush-washer under hex head.
Inverted Flair (or reverse flair) is a term used in place of concave and convex, butalways refers to- concave on male and convex on female.

SAE 37 degree flair, aka -AN (Air Force/Navy) orJIC, is considered universal for aftermarketautomotive plumbing. ORB version is similarthread but seals with o-ring rather than flair. SAE45 seals on 45 degree flair and is similar in threadto SAE 37 (except -12 which is 14tpi). SAE45 iscommonly used in automotive a/c plumbing.

Teflon* Racing Hose with Reusable Fitting
Step 1. Cut hose square tolength with fine-tooth hacksaw or cut-off wheel. To minimize wire braid flare out, wrap hose with maskingtape and cut through tape.Remove tape, trim loosewires and flush with lubebefore next step. Burrs onbore of tube should beremoved with a knife. Cleanthe hose bore.
Sometimes wire braid hosewill “neck down” on one endand “flare out” on the otherend. This can be used to anadvantage. Slip two socketsback to back over the“necked down” end of thehose, position approximately3 inches from each end.Mount nipple hex in a vise.Work the hose bore over thenipple to size the tube andaid in separating the braidprior to fitting the sleeve.Remove hose from nipple.
Step 2. Push the sleeve overthe end of the tube and underthe wire braid by hand.Complete positioning of thesleeve by pushing the hoseend against a flat surface.Visually inspect to see that thetube butts against the insideshoulder of the sleeve. Set thesleeve barbs into the Teflon*tube by pushing a round nosetapered punch into the end ofthe sleeve and tube.
Step 3. Lubricate nipple and socket threads. Use amolydisulfide base lubricantfor stainless steel fittings (e.g.Molykote Type G); lubricantscontaining chloride are not recommended. Other materialcombinations use standardpetroleum lubricants. Hold thenipple with hex in the vise.Push hose over nipple withtwisting motion until seatedagainst nipple chamfer. Pushsocket forward and startthreading of socket to nipple.
*Teflon is a DuPont trademark.
Step 1. Slide clamp ontohose.
Step 2. Push cap (socket) ontohose until it bottoms. Then slideclamp under cap.
Step 3. Push assembly ontobeaded tube. Position clamp for appearance. Tighten with a screwdriver.
Step 4. Wrench tighten hexuntil clearance with socket hexis at .031 inches. Your thumb-nail is a convenient measuringdevice. Tighten further to aligncorners of nipple and sockethexes. CLEAN, PROOF TESTTO TWICE OPERATING PRESSURE AND INSPECT ALL ASSEMBLIES.
To disassemble: Unscrew andremove nipple; slide socketback on hose by tappingagainst flat surface; removesleeve with pliers.
Important: Fittings may be disassembled and reused atleast once. However, all suchfittings should be carefullyexamined for distortion, thread damage and I.D.dimensions. New sleeve is recommended upon reuse of fitting.
Replacement brass sleeves areavailable. Refer to Page 19.
This is the type tool we use to make hose cutting fast, preciseand easy. Available in two sizes: small (12" handle) for up to-8AN and large (22" handle) will cut all sizes up to -20AN.
