  • A brief introduction...

    The figure of Aby Warburg comes up to me after visiting the exhibition Atlas, How to carry the world on ones back? at Museo Nacioal de Arte Reina Sofa in Madrid. Aby Warburg an Art Historian of the early XXth century, explores a territory where the images rule and words are superfluous, where the conventional timeline has been replaced by a sort of cross-section of time. This new way of understanding the History of Art is shown in her Bilderatlas. Warburgs work brings me the opportunity to rethink the importance of transversality in architectural knowledge. In my opinion this could be achieved without words by means of graphics only. Because as Architects, graphics are our natural way of communication.

    After different attempts to organize information through an atlas, I hope to have finally found out the way to do it. This set of panels are showing more than just my work. They are trying to knit the network of my work understanding that designing and teaching how to design are things completely indissoluble.

    1 Atlas

    The atlas is a visual form of knowledge, a knowledgeable form of seeing.

    The atlas disrupts all these frames of intelligibility. It introduces a fundamental impurity_ but also an exuberance, a remarkable fecundity- that these models had been conceived to avert. Against all epistemic purity, it introduces the sensible dimension into knowledge and the diverse, and the lacunary character of each image.

    Against any aesthetic purity, it introduces the multiple, the diverse, the hybridity of any montage.

    12 Topic panels

    Every panel has a topic and these topics are the weekly organization of my studio during last semester at the UVA. In my opinion, this way of organizing assignments reinforces the idea of design as a set of puzzle pieces. One is able to work these pieces separately week by week, but at the end they fit perfectly as one single piece.

    3 Categories

    In order to knit my design, my interests and my way to teach, I have come to the conclusion that the mixture between these three categories is essencial. Actually, this would be the best way to show the indissolubility between design, thinking and teaching that exists in the field of Architecture.

    These three categories are:

    MW: my own work such as projects, competitions, projects as a student and contructed work.

    OW: others work such as designers, artists and other colleagues work as references or interferences.

    SW: students work from my teaching period as proof of my methodology of designing/teaching.

  • How to read this Atlas?

    Topic: One can see the definition of the topic in order to frame and define what is understood behind each word. The image under the definition is the most representative item of the panel according to the definition.

    Category bibliography BOX: Every color defines one of the 3 categories MW/OW/SW and the number the same project across the 12 panels.

  • La construcci dun aparcament per a vehicles adjacent al Cam Fondo fa pensar en una transformaci del carcter del carrer, que passa de ser via de servei al darrera dalgunes edificacions a porta per a un nou flux daccs al recinte de lesgsia.

    Per a una correcta urbanitzaci del recorregut s especialment important la resoluci de les patologies que presenta el mur de pedra situat davant de laparcament. Aquesta circumstncia ser loportunitat per a establir una connexi entre laparcament i lescola bressol, i per a dotar aquesta ltima dun accs adaptat.

    Des del carrer estant la presncia del mur i lametller que el corona sn magnfiques preexistncies que el projecte promou conservar i posar en valor.

    La rehabilitaci consisteix en:1.Tractar les patologies del mur i les seves causes lempenta de les arrels de latmetller-.2.Proposar una soluci de mobilitat coherent amb la rehabilitaci estructural.

    En primer terme sassegura lestabilitat de les terres darrera el mur mitjanant bulonatge. En segon terme es construeix un tals armat que obrint-se respecte de la geometria del mur, dona espai a les arrels. Per acabar, aquest tals es contina cap a linterior del pati, generant el cam daccs. El recorregut, i ms endavant el pati de lescola, sacompanyen dun sistema de baranes i proteccions que esdevenen joc dalades, materials i llums, i dun paviment que incorpora peces cermiques estampades amb dibuixos originals dels nens que lusaran.

    ORGANIZACIN INTERIOREl programa se organiza en tres franjas principales. La franja exterior en contacto con el zona ajardinada al este alberga la biblioteca y una sala polivalente. La parte central contiene la entrada y bar en planta baja y la sala auditorio en la primera planta, Y la franja exterior en contacto con la calle Gaviada alberga el espacio de juego exterior cubierto en planta baja y las dependencias municipales en la primera planta.

    FLEXIBLE Y VARIABLELa organizacin de los espacios de trabajo se ha hecho con un criterio abierto, pensando en posibles transformaciones futuras, y que todos los cambios deseables en el tiempo se puedan hacer con facilidad. A parte de la facilidad y sencillez fsica de modificar los lugares de trabajo, estos tienen unas cualidades genricas que mantienen las propiedades bsicas en caso de futuras transformaciones. Los espacios de trabajo estn dispuestos de manera que siempre tienen luz natural y ventilaciones cruzadas, independientemente de su distribucin interior.

    Per a una correcta urbanitzaci del recorregut s especialment important la resoluci de les patologies que presenta el mur de pedra situat davant de laparcament. Aquesta circumstncia ser loportunitat per a establir una connexi entre laparcament i lescola bressol, i per a dotar aquesta ltima dun accs adaptat.

    Des del carrer estant la presncia del mur i lametller que el corona sn magnfiques preexistncies que el projecte promou conservar i posar en valor.

    La rehabilitaci consisteix en:1.Tractar les patologies del mur i les seves causes lempenta de les arrels de latmetller-.2.Proposar una soluci de mobilitat coherent amb la rehabilitaci estructural.

    En primer terme sassegura lestabilitat de les terres darrera el mur mitjanant bulonatge. En segon terme es construeix un tals armat que obrint-se respecte de la geometria del mur, dona espai a les arrels. Per acabar, aquest tals es contina cap a linterior del pati, generant el cam daccs. El recorregut, i ms endavant el pati de lescola, sacompanyen dun sistema de baranes i proteccions que esdevenen joc dalades, materials i llums, i dun paviment que incorpora peces cermiques estampades amb dibuixos originals dels nens que lusaran.

    La construcci dun aparcament per a vehicles adjacent al Cam Fondo fa pensar en una transformaci del carcter del carrer, que passa de ser via de servei al darrera dalgunes edificacions a porta per a un nou flux daccs al recinte de lesgsia.

    Per a una correcta urbanitzaci del recorregut s especialment important la resoluci de les patologies que presenta el mur de pedra situat davant de laparcament. Aquesta circumstncia ser loportunitat per a establir una connexi entre laparcament i lescola bressol, i per a dotar aquesta ltima dun accs adaptat.

    Des del carrer estant la presncia del mur i lametller que el corona sn magnfiques preexistncies que el projecte promou conservar i posar en valor.

    La rehabilitaci consisteix en:1.Tractar les patologies del mur i les seves causes lempenta de les arrels de latmetller-.2.Proposar una soluci de mobilitat coherent amb la rehabilitaci estructural.

    En primer terme sassegura lestabilitat de les terres darrera el mur mitjanant bulonatge. En segon terme es construeix un tals armat que obrint-se respecte de la geometria del mur, dona espai a les arrels. Per acabar, aquest tals es contina cap a linterior del pati, generant el cam daccs. El recorregut, i ms endavant el pati de lescola, sacompanyen dun sistema de baranes i proteccions que esdevenen joc dalades, materials i llums, i dun paviment que incorpora peces cermiques estampades amb dibuixos originals dels nens que lusaran.
