Custom Body Construction Medical Coaches decided to take a unique design approach allowing us to build our bodies to have one of the best strength-to-weight ratios in our industry. At the same time we provide a European-style rivetless surface and design that doesn’t look like a standard freight trailer. Our custom, all-aluminum “C” sections are .080” thick, 60 percent thicker than the competitor’s riveted flat sheet panels. Channels are bonded together with the same materials as Formula One race cars, luxury boats, passenger aircraft, and many trailers. Our thicker sides resist minor scratches and dents and can be weld-repaired in the field. There is no risk of corrosion or leaks inherent in riveted construction. Floor Construction Base flooring utilizes large, high-density panels completely covered with reinforced fiberglass, greatly increasing strength and durability and eliminating the risk of moisture damage to plywood (the leading cause of floor damage). Our larger panels only have joints at partitions with no risk of linoleum floor damage as occurs when competitor’s smaller plywood joints separate.

Dimensions/Maneuverability Although Medical Coaches’ body length is 48’ like most manufacturers, our style of front-mounted air conditioners (positioned not to interfere with tractor swing radius) and side-mounted generator (most are mounted on a large front platform) results in a trailer that is more maneuverable, easy to site, and only requires a standard tractor. Most competitors require a longer wheelbase tractor and a larger turning radius due to the front generator platform.

Frame/Chassis The backbone of our Siemens Magnetom platform is our unique monocoque frame. We utilize the same technology as 90 percent of the trailers on the road today. This design gives Medical Coaches one of the greatest strength-to-weight ratios in our industry, allowing more payload without overload. All chassis include air-ride suspension, high-dampening shock absorbers, and an air-ride fifth wheel to protect sensitive equipment.

SPECIAL

Power Generator Medical Coaches is very proud of our special approach to our power generator and its protected location. In partnership with Atlantic Detroit Diesel (one of the largest power generator suppliers in the world with an extensive Nationwide service network), we designed a full-power diesel generator that can be side mounted in a closed, weather-protected compartment (not on a difficult-to-access front platform exposed to the weather). The generator can be fully serviced from ground level and started by remote control. Digital electronic messages allow operators to check critical conditions and receive failure messages. Detroit Diesel representatives can plug into the diagnostic system to quickly understand and pinpoint problems. Special vibration dampers and sound silencers enhance generator operation. Our generator will provide dependable power for in-transit environmental control and necessary system components. The on-board 50-gallon fuel tank will provide for 24 hours of continuous operation at normal 50 percent average power draw.

Patient Lift Because of our unique body construction, we are able to provide a patient lift that stores in a weather-protected, under-floor compartment. We also currently meet all new Federal Safety regulations (FMVSS 403 & 404). This standard protects both operators and patients. Like our generator, the patient lift is stored in a weather-protected compartment. Unlike side fold-up lifts, ours are clear of ice, dirt, water, and grime when set up at site after transit. This greatly reduces set-up time.

Custom Cabinetry Our master cabinet maker builds our cabinets with both European flair and quality. Latches and hinges are all highest-quality Stainless Steel (not plastic). Our push-button Stainless Steel latches easily indicate when cabinets are latched (flush when pushed in) to prevent valuable equipment from falling out during transit. All cabinets have solid back panels (not open like most competitors), insuring the strength and rigidity mandatory for long life in a mobile unit.

Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) The entire HVAC system is designed both to insure reliable operation of Siemens equipment and to provide a consistently comfortable atmosphere for technicians and patients. Systems have been tested to extremes of hot and cold temperatures. A balanced humidification system is also standard. We utilize Bard HVAC units, unmatched in our industry for reliability and serviceability. Our HVAC units are completely independent from the chiller system, reducing down time. Nationwide service availability and standard stocking of spare parts mitigate the risk of HVAC problems causing down time. Front-mounted HVAC units are aerodynamically protected by the tractor and are far less likely to collect road debris and ice than rear-mounted units. The offensive high-volume air blowing down technician’s necks from large ceiling diffusers is eliminated in Medical Coaches’ trailers. Our custom ceiling has hundreds of small air louvers creating a “curtain” airflow effect that is virtually unnoticeable.

FEATURES Sliding Patient Entrance Door Our most-popular recent new feature has been the replacement of the electric roll-up door with our full-width pocket sliding doors. Roll-up doors have always proven to be problematic. If they fail due to motor or electrical problems or bind and stop, the lift cannot be used until the door is repaired. In addition, the long “up-

down” cycle exposes the interior to cold or hot outside temper- atures for long periods of time. O u r n e w s o l i d sliding door can be operated with one hand and disappears into a “pocket” area. The door can be opened quickly and only as far as needed to preserve interior environmental comfort. Audible and

visual alarms warn operators if the door is opened without the lift up. With very few mechanical parts and no electrical/motor operations, our door is very reliable with little risk of failure.

Main Entrance Steps & Platforms Our steps and platforms are light and easy to handle and incorporate many safety features – grip steps, Stainless Steel formed handrails, step warning signs, and step levelers. Steps are easy to deploy and store in a protected compartment and the platform slides in under the door.

Chiller Our unique chiller is designed to be easy to service, provide back-up should compressors fail, and allow compressor changes while the chiller is still running. Dependable chillers are critical to any mobile MRI operation. Medical Coaches took a unique and modern approach to chiller design by utilizing add-on compressor modules. Modules can be added to increase chiller capacity for system upgrades (Symphony to Avanto) without the significant cost of a new chiller. Modules operate independently, preventing

any one chiller from shutting down the system. In addition, modules (compressors) can be replaced with the chiller still operating. No system down time! A remote chiller temperature monitor is in the Control Room.

Special Metallic Ceiling Once again, Medical Coaches’ response to customer’s suggestions resulted in a unique solution. Customers were tired of the offensive air flow from ceiling HVAC diffusers and square panels that jar loose and are impossible to clean. Medical Coaches went to the high-end hospital ceiling industry and now utilizes linear aluminum ceiling sections that are easy to clean and cannot stain. Selected panels have many small openings, offering a barely noticeable “curtain” of conditioned air. In addition, ceiling panels contain patented sound-absorbing material to greatly reduce system noise. The entire upper ceiling can easily and quickly be accessed for service by removing the ceiling panels. In addition, our metallic panels allow us to use low voltage lighting (no fluorescent “flicker”), infinitely adjustable to provide a full spectrum of lighting.

Service Program Medical Coaches pioneered scheduled Preventive Maintenance and Extended Warranty Programs. We always believed our customers were far better served by putting the responsibility of trailer maintenance on our shoulders. Our extensive and experience-based Preventive Maintenance Program precludes most serious issues and our trained local independent service technicians provide 24/7 coverage accessed through our 800 number. Our confidence in our trailer’s long-term dependability is matched with a full Extended Warranty and Service Program that can be purchased over the full life of our units.

Our lifts do not require the 10-inch “pocket” that must be built into the trailer side to accommodate the fold-up style lift. This 10-inch protrusion greatly reduces interior space in the Control Room. All lifts are provided with light, easy-to-handle, Stainless Steel formed handrails. Unlike painted or aluminum rails, these cannot bend, dent, scratch, or leave residue on hands and clothing. Alarms warn if the lift is not up when the entrance door is opened and an interlock prevents the trailer from moving if the lift is not stored. A manual pump override allows the lift to be raised and lowered in an emergency situation. Lifts are protected by a fold-up overhead solid canopy that also serves as a weather seal during transit. Modifications are also available for unique site situations.

Electrical Many coaches have main electrical panels and controls in a variety of locations. Medical Coaches’ units have one interior, centrally located main panel to control and monitor virtually all circuits. Operators can quickly diagnose an electrical problem without having to go to an outside panel box subject to all kinds of weather. In addition, our unique monocoque body design allows the main power plug to exit from either side of the center compartment. No need to “feed” on the ground under the coach.

Electric Compartment Door Locks We listen to our customers! Years ago, a good customer in snow country complained about frozen locks taking too much time to thaw on our lower compartment doors. We responded with a simple, but effective solution – centrally controlled electric locks. The master control is located in a keyed compartment near the front steps. A switch is turned on and lift doors can be opened by pushing a button. No keys! If there is a power or mechanical failure, a special tool is mounted in the keyed master compartment that can open doors in about 30 seconds. This feature greatly reduces set-up and take-down time and driver frustration. In addition, all compartment doors are rigid “refrigerator-style” with very-positive double weather seals for “dry” compartments.
