Mobile Health Testing, Inc. will perform your testing on site that will meet your company’s needs. The wellness profile will be offered to all employees who want to participate. The following pages explain the importance of participating in your company’s wellness program.

Please consider allowing us to perform the blood work which will screen for cholesterol, triglycerides, blood sugar and many more significant tests. This comprehensive panel that we perform will be beneficial in providing early detection of certain diseases. Some of these include heart diseases, liver damage, and diabetes. Diabetes is one of the most common findings that we see with some of our other clients.

The wellness results that we perform on the employee will be kept confidential and sent to you. Any gross abnormalities will be reported only to you by mail or by telephone.

What are the symptoms of low blood glucose?

You may have low blood glucose if you suddenly feel:

• Weak or tired

• Nervous or irritable

• Dizzy or shaky

• Hungry

Or if you have:

• Headache

• Sweating

• Fast heartbeat, or

• Blurry vision

Low blood glucose may be caused by:

• Not eating or eating too little food

• Taking too much insulin or diabetes pills

• Being too active

What are the symptoms of high blood glucose?

Typical symptoms of high blood glucose are:

• Frequent need to urinate

• Extreme thirst

• Dry skin or mouth

• Hunger

• Blurry vision

• Drowsiness

• Slow- healing wounds or infections

High blood glucose may occur if you skip a dose of insulin or diabetes pills. Other common causes are eating more than usual, not exercising (when regular exercise is part of your daily routine), or illness.

High blood glucose can lead to diabetic ketoacidosis, or DKA, especially in people who have type 1 diabetes. Regularly checking your blood glucose levels and urine for ketones will help to prevent this serious condition. Ketones are a sign your insulin level is too low. Your blood glucose levels are out of control. If you have type 1 diabetes, check for ketones when your blood glucose is above 240 mg/dL.

Over time, untreated high blood glucose levels can lead to serious health problems, such as:

• Heart disease and blood vessel problems• Vision problems or blindness• Kidney disease• Nerve disease• Infections of your gums or skin

Most of the long- term complications of diabetes are due to high blood glucose levels. That’s why the most important thing you can do to protect your long-term health is control your blood glucose.

What are the long-term complications of diabetes?

Diseases of the heart and blood vessels (cardiovascular disease) are at least twice as likely to occur in people with diabetes as in people without diabetes. Most cardiovascular complications of diabetes are due to a blockage or slowing down of blood flow in the body.

Eating too much food high in fat or cholesterol can lead to excess lipids (such as cholesterol and triglycerides) in the blood. This condition can cause blood vessels to narrow or clog. High blood glucose levels from diabetes also contribute to the clogging of blood vessels. A heart attack can occur when blood flow to the heart is blocked. Blocking or slowing of blood flow to the brain can cause a stroke.

Diabetes and Cardiovascular disease

High blood pressure (hypertension) is another type of cardiovascular disease. High blood pressure can damage small blood vessels and major arteries in the body. Because high blood pressure does not usually produce any symptoms, you need to have your blood pressure checked regularly.

Your healthcare provider will check your blood pressure and lipid levels. Diet, lifestyle changes, and medicine if necessary, can help treat these conditions.

Chest pain, shortness of breath, swollen ankles, or headaches can be symptoms of cardiovascular disease. Alert your healthcare provider to any of these symptoms.

You can help prevent or reduce your risk of cardiovascular disease if you:

• Control your blood glucose levels• Follow your meal plan• Get regular exercise• Avoid or quit smoking• Control your blood pressure and lipids• Limit use of salt and alcohol

How can I help protect my heart and blood vessels?

The hemoglobin A1C test measures your average blood glucose level over the past 2 or 3 months. The results of this test, which is done by your healthcare provider, and of your own blood glucose testing will help assess your risk of diabetes complications. Keeping your A1C level to 6.5% or less will also help you avoid damage to your kidneys, eyes, and nerves.

Medical students have shown that maintaining tight blood glucose control or lowering your A1C level by a percentage point or more can significantly reduce your risk of diabetes complications.

The A1C Test

Prior to the date of testing, each employee will be provided with a container for the collection of a random urine specimen. This will be brought in on the morning of the employee’s testing, at which time the phlebotomy technician will perform the necessary blood draw. The laboratory tests below will be performed by a CDC and CAP certified laboratory. The quality and accuracy of these tests are of the highest caliber, equal to that of a hospital environment.
