White Label Template Instructions
Introduction
Thank you for participating in the MOAA chapter newsletter
pilot. MOAA provides a downloadable template on our website for
chapter participants. Use these instructions to customize the
downloaded newsletter template for your chapter’s readers. (Note:
Depending on your version of Microsoft Office, your setup may
visually differ from what is presented below. The basic steps
should behave similarly.)
Newsletter Format
The MOAA chapter newsletter template allows you to customize
four content areas:
· Header: Include your chapter’s name to provide instant
familiarity to your readers.
· Table of Contents: Provide an overview of chapter-specific
news items ahead of MOAA updates.
· Body Text: Type or copy and paste chapter news content in
placeholder areas.
· Footer: Add chapter contact information, including email and
phone information.
Downloading the Template
1. Access the template landing page here, or open Internet
Explorer and type or copy and paste http://www.moaa.org/whitelabel
into the browser address bar.
2. Once the page opens in your browser, click October 2016
downloadable document.
3. When prompted by the dialogue box that opens, click Save
As.
4. Select an area on your computer to save the document, enter a
custom File name in the field provided, and then click Save.
5. Open the document from the chosen location.
Editing Content Areas
Use Microsoft Word tools such as paste, headers/footers, and
hyperlinking to customize specific content areas for your
chapter.
Headers and Footers
By default, headers and footers appear “grayed-out” or closed
when a document opens. To engage them for editing, place the mouse
over either and double-click.
The header and footer sections now appear open for editing.
Adding a hyperlinked email address in the footer
MOAA recommends including a hyperlinked email address to the
footer section, reserved for contact information.
1. To edit the existing email hyperlink, open the footer for
editing, right-click the email text, and select Edit Hyperlink from
the dropdown menu.
2. In the Edit Hyperlink window that opens, customize
information as formatted in the example, and then click OK. (Note:
The Text to display field should only include an email address. In
the E-mail address field, include “mailto:” before the
address.)
Closing the header/footer editor
Once opened, the header/footer editor disengages the rest of the
document from editing. To close the header/footer editor and return
to editing the main document, double-click in the body area of the
document or click Close Header and Footer in the header/footer
toolbar.
Body Text
You may choose to draft custom newsletter content in the body
text area, or you may copy and paste content from another source.
(Note: Adding lines of content beyond the space provided in the
template is acceptable, although chapters should be aware this may
affect formatting of sections past chapter-specific body text.)
1. To copy and paste text into the newsletter template, use the
mouse to highlight text from another document or web page,
right-click, and select Copy from the dropdown menu.
2. Back in the newsletter template, highlight placeholder text
or drop the cursor in the desired destination, and select Keep Text
Only from the Paste drowndown menu in the toolbar to maintain
consistent formatting.
Alternatively, right-click highlighted placeholder text and
select the same option from the dropdown menu.
