Moa Mail 28 July 2021 The Inglewood Development Trust Issue 295 The Inglewood premier rugby team capped off an outstanding season with a commanding 23-0 win over Coastal to take out the Taranaki rugby CMK premier division title. After finishing the regular season in top spot, and unbeaten in the competition's second round, the shut-out performance in horrible conditions at TET Stadium was led by the dominance of the forward pack and an intelligent kicking game. It was Inglewood’s first premier trophy since 2014. The team thanks the community and their fans for all the support throughout the season and to the club, sponsors and volunteers who work so hard to make club rugby a reality. Thanks to LDV Photography for photo’s of the day. The team also pass on best wishes to those going on to representative campaigns, particularly captain and number eight Johnny Faletagoa'i-Malase, hooker Millennium Sanerivi, first five Josh Jacomb and loose forward Mitch Brown with the Taranaki Bulls, and halfback Lisati Milo-Harris with the Southland Stags. We know they will represent our club and our community with pride. Score: Inglewood 23 (Timo Tutuvaha, Crusader Faletagoai tries; Josh Jacomb two cons, three pens) Coastal 0. Hear Our Mighty Moa ROAR!! (Ryan Evans) Editor’s Comments The other week I was exceptionally fortunate to be able to watch Inglewood High School First XV represent their school on their South Island tour. The two games I watched were a loss for the boys but they still gave it their all and displayed excellent sportsmanship and commitment. The boys seemed to have a great trip filled with competitive rugby games and activities they might never get to do again, an opportunity I’m sure they are extremely grateful for. Phillippa Peters - Editor Page 2 Moa Mail Winter doesn’t stop the Inglewood Lions from being busy. A planned BBQ at the Inglewood Rugby Final was cancelled due to the bad weather but the Lions have assisted with an annual herd shift for a farmer and are also currently delivering the new telephone books in the Inglewood District. The Inglewood Lions Fertiliser Project is underway with orders coming in. It’s not too late to get your order in. See Fertiliser Order form in this Moa Mail. Planned delivery date is Saturday 14 August. We were back on track with this years Inglewood Lions Mid Winter Senior Citizens Luncheon. Covid 19 prevented us from holding one in winter last year. 54 people enjoyed the beautiful lunch while being entertained by musician, Colin King. Grateful thanks to Donna and her team at the Inglewood Club for cooking and serving the meal. Also thanks to Jaala Goodwin and Tess James from Unichem Chemist here in Inglewood and also Lindy Cooper from Inglewood New World for donating the raffle prizes. A special thanks to two little helpers Alexis, (nine years) and Harper (seven years) grand daughters of one of the Inglewood Lion members, for helping. They were our photographers for the day. The Inglewood Lions subsidized the meal by 50%. It was our way off giving back to the Seniors in the Inglewood Community. These amazing high-tech colourful images were captured by astronomer and Massey University Lecturer Stephen Chadwick. I was impressed at the detail. The universe is so incredibly beautiful. Of course we also had to have a wee look at some of the lovely arts and crafts next door in the shop where one of our members was on duty. The locals are so talented. Our next venue was the Fenton Street Arts Collective. This two storied, stately, grey structure is owned and managed by Jo Stallard who is a portrait/figurative Artist and Stuart Greenhill who is a published author. They lovingly renovated this heritage building to create a popular destination for those who also appreciate art, history, gin and good espresso. An intimate back room, next to the distillery, provided a perfect space where we could hold our meeting and enjoy a delicious afternoon tea after a bit of a tour of the building. It’s a very comfortable and tasteful place which has built a great reputation for doing things well. They certainly made us feel welcome and we’d all be keen to visit again. Durham Women’s Institute Visit Stratford (Christine Fitz Patrick) After skipping a month due to wet weather our small group of enthusiastic volunteers returned to PG Nops Reserve for the July working bee. Six of us spent a couple of hours clearing the Tawa Street entrance to the reserve, controlling wild Hydrangea choking the Kurapete Stream and removing Wandering Wily, Bamboo and Montbretia. Six wool sacks were filled with weeds and rubbish. The next working bee is Sunday 29 August 1.00-3.00pm. Meet at the Tawa Street entrance. All welcome. Page 4 Moa Mail On Monday 5 July the First XV along with coaches and management headed off to the South Island on tour after two years of fundraising. First game up was on Tuesday against Ellesmere College in Leeston. Inglewood were ahead at half time 24 to 12, going into the second half saw Inglewood playing well coming out the winners 67 to 19. Moving on to Thursday saw the boys playing McKenzie College at Fairlie. A close fought game with both teams scoring back and forth, half time score was 19 to 14 to Inglewood. Another close half finishing with Inglewood running in two quick try’s to finish the game 36 to 21 to Inglewood. Having earned a well deserved break the team moved onto Queenstown for a weekend of full filled activities before taking on Wakatipu High School in Queenstown on the Monday. Wakatipu came ready to play and while Inglewood had strong defence they managed to score three times making the halftime score 19 to 0. Inglewood looked like they were making a come back with two tries after halftime but it was not to be with injuries causing issues. Wakatipu took the game final score 46 to 10. After a day break the team then played Roncalli and Aoraki Colleges Combined First XV in Timaru. While Inglewood did their best and never gave up, the injuries they were carrying combined with being the end of a tour were no match for the talent showed by Roncalli/Aoraki team. Final score being 76 to 0. A great tour all round with a big thank you to coaches Gavin Muir, Jarard Peters, manager Jamie Brocklehurst and especially tour organiser and school liaison Tony Earl. Also thank you to the parents and supporters (away and at home) and all those who helped fundraise to make this trip a reality.
