Møns Klint is witness to the birth of Denmark … When one stands on the top of Møns Klint - 128 meter over sea level - one is also standing on the exposed foundations of Denmark. Denmark is, uniquely, built on a platform of chalk and Møns Klint is witness to the mighty forces that have shaped the land and the very special flora and fauna of this area. GeoCenter Møns Klint is to be a geology- and nature center which can tell the exciting story of Denmark’s geological development. It will be a story rich in new ex- periences, which extend all the way from the Cretaceous Period, when the chalk was formed, through the violent upheavals of the Tertiary Period, to the Ice Ages whose massive glaciers carved the land and, with enormous force, drove the chalk bedrock into the sky. … and gives life to a unique flora and fauna Millions of years of development have created a unique flora and fauna in the area - 20 of Denmark’s 43 orchid species bloom here at Møns Klint. The Blackspotted Bluebird is found only in Høvblege, and the world’s fastest bird, the Peregrine Falcon, which hunts its prey at 350 km an hour, in Denmark breeds only on these steep chalk cliffs overlooking the Baltic. An exciting exhibition tells the story Enjoy the prospect of experiencing the exciting stories, which can be experienced in the interactive exhibits for the whole family - you yourself will be able to lift moun- tains and see how Denmark emerged from the sea - be the glacier that raises the Klint up - or create your own landslide and much, much more. As something new, the country’s best artists will interpret the different geologi- cal periods that together shaped Denmark. You can find them in the ”artist’s caves” which will be … yes, come and experience everything! Challenges for body, soul and mind Central to the work of the GeoCenter is the establish- ment of a school- and nature guide service, which will give the exciting story of Denmark’s birth and of Møns natural riches back to Danish schoolchildren. The rolling countryside and varied natural beauty of the area offer many opportunities for school camp outings that challenge body, soul and mind. The creation of GeoCenter Møns Klint will make it possible to greet the sightseer with modern facilities that offer an exciting introduction to the his- tory of the Klint and its surroundings. The exhibition, the nature guide service and center operations will all be housed in a building complex which, by uniting the new with the old, will bring the tradition of tourism to Møns Klint into a new era. The architects, inspired by the design of the main build- ing, nicknamed it ”The Wing” and this has become its popular name. www.moensklint.dk Vi glæder os til at se dig! Skov- og Naturstyrelsen åbner maj 2007 opens may 2007 eröffnung mai 2007
