We started our Maternal Composite flock in 2010 in response to some of our White Suffolk clients indicating they were looking at the option of a self replacing prime lamb flock to replace their traditional first cross ewe flock. We started with a White Suffolk ewe base selecting cfa ewes for longevity and soundness. We also joined our entire White Suffolk ewe lamb drop to target those sheep with early puberty. Infusions into our flock have come from the Border Leicester, East Friesan, Texel, Finn and Coopworth breeds. I believe we are and always will be advancing our aims to produce a highly fertile, moderate sized ewe, whose progeny have the carcase characteristics (and skin values) necessary to be highly sought after by processors. Days Whiteface Annual Sheep Sale – Friday 6th October
2016 was our best Maternal Composite ram sale yet, selling more rams at a higher average mostly to existing clients who have found the change to a self replacing sheep flock most rewarding.
We have been DNA testing for a number of years and also contributing rams to be used in the CRC Resource flock. This allows us to get information on hard to measure traits such as IMF and Shear Force. We are eagerly awaiting the results on our 2016 drop.
We are really impressed with our line up of sale rams this year. The majority Sired by:

Why Choose Days Maternal Composites1. Carry extra fat – helps with fertility and lamb survival
2. Carry extra muscle – gives the yield the processors want
3. Fertility – more lambs weaned
4. Moderate sized – Less maintenance than traditional 1st cross ewes
5. Tighter Skins – better skin value and hold their freshness
