1. Be in good academic standing (no F’s!)2. Have at least a collective “B” average in chorus.3. Attend all required concerts.4. Have a positive record of behavior, including:

□ No more than one day of OSS total□ No more than 3 days of ISS total□ No detention, referrals, or phone calls home

from Mrs. Nelson after January 5, 20091. NO EXCEPTIONS! NO ARGUMENTS!

5. Participate in all rehearsals to prepare for the festival

6. Turn in permission forms and pay (or fund-raise) any financial commitments required to go on the trip.

• Come into the room quietly

• Dispose of your gum! Then collect your materials and have a seat quietly

• Begin on the assignment found on the board, monitor or overhead

• When the timer goes off, you must be in your seat or you are considered tardy!

• Each student receives two tardies a quarter. This will begin next week!.

• Any tardies after the free one are subject to consequences.

• If you happen to be tardy, enter quietly, place your pass on the piano, and sit quietly with appropriate materials

If we have group activities that require talking, I will clap my hands or sing a rhythm. When you hear the rhythm, clap or sing it back to me so I know you heard it. Then sit quietly and wait for instructions.

• I will usually end class 30 seconds early so you may pack up. In this instance, you may leave when the bell rings.

• If I feel it is necessary, I may hold the class past the 30 second mark, or even past the bell. REFRAIN FROM ASKING WHAT TIME IT IS OR IF YOU CAN LEAVE!

• I will write tardy passes at my discretion.

• 93-100 = A

• 85-92 = B

• 77-84 = C

• 70-76 = D

• 69 and below = F

• 45 % = Classroom participation and classwork

• 45 % = Tests, major quizzes, projects and concerts

• 10% = Homework/practicing

• Obviously, by now, you have figured that participation is important.

• You earn a weekly participation grade of 100pts. which calculates to 20pts. a day.

• Any infractions will result in points subtracted from your daily grade.

Not ready for class = 5 pts. offNot warming up = 7 pts. offNot using correct posture = 5 pts. offNot participating = 20 pts. offGum = 10 pts. off plus consequenceTalking = 5 pts. off per infraction plus consequence…Plus anything else appropriate.I will try to add points for good stuff! However, it is my decision.

There are two kinds of classroom tests:WrittenSinging

Singing tests are taken in groups of two or three during class.If a student does not wish to take the test during class, he/she must arrange with Mrs. Nelson an acceptable test time within 3 days of the test or no credit is awarded.

Concerts are required for two test grades.

You must attend the entire concert to receive full credit.

You receive one grade for using concert etiquette, and one grade for performing.

Concerts already scheduled for this year are Dec. 18 and May 14.

Concert dress is Chorus polo/black pants.

Homework is assigned each Friday and due on Tuesday.Homework may consist of theory worksheets or reflections.All homework assignments may be found online as well.

This year, each class will have a say in making the rules.Let’s answer the following questions, first in groups of three, then with the entire class.You will have two minutes with each question.We may not finish today, and thats okay!
