CA982次航班在北京清冽的空

气中缓缓降落。 “ 一切都结束

了”，我对自己说。在8个月前，

“做一个大众传媒方向的中美学

生论坛”，还只是我头脑中一个

尚不清晰的轮廓。在准备GRE和

忙着投递实习简历的日子里，是

来自北大和哥大朋友的出谋划

策、以及北大国合记者团和新闻

与传播学院的前辈们的慷慨鼓励

令我把这个想法支持下去，因为

如果人始终被现实中看似“不得

不做”的事情所束缚，而没有勇

气去追逐自己真正的梦想，在一

生过去之后，我们所余下的将只

有懊悔与遗憾。

作为一个生活在中国的新闻

专业的学生，我清楚地知道中国

新闻业发展的窘境以及青年学生

的困惑。这个时代从来不欠缺好

的记者，但是他们往往囿于特定

社会阶段的限制，不能发挥出自

己最大的能量，不能尽职地履行

一名媒体人的社会责任——这对

于年轻的传媒学生来说是令人困

惑的。有人说，“新闻实践是磨

平新闻理想的过程”，而我多么

希望，能够做一些事情，让他们

觉得，“新闻实践是打磨新闻理

想的砂纸，让你对这个时代的需

求、对你个人的价值有更加清晰

的认识”——这是我构建PKU-

Columbia MLI的原始冲动。

在中国学习新闻的学生欠缺

什么？我个人认为，最欠缺的是

一种批判的眼光，是一种独立思

考的能力与勇气。我们需要好的

教师，那些能够教授我们媒体社

会责任、鼓励我们挑战刻板模式

的教师，带领我们认识社会痼疾

并致力于逐渐消解痼疾的前辈。

在这样的思考下，MLI2009的创

建团队邀请到了数位哥伦比亚大

学新闻学院的教授以及工作在美

国新闻界一线的媒体人，希望通

过与他们的直接交流，北大的代

表们能够打破内心的砖墙，跳脱

在平日学习、写稿中陈旧的思维

模式，以一种逆向但并不反叛的

眼光来审视社会与时代。

在MLI2009结束后不久，我

陆续收到了几位北大代表给我发

来的邮件。在信中，他们认为在

MLI学到了“在课堂和书本中无

法获得的知识”，“通过别人的

视野，自己眼中的全景也会变得

清晰 ” ， “ 国际交流的网络改

变了我的生活”。这样的来信让

我联想到一位已经过世的卡内

基·梅隆大学教授Randy Pausch

的演讲，他说：“我发现，帮助

他人实现他们的梦想，是唯一比

实现自己的梦想更有意义的事

情”。

MLI是一次追逐真正梦想的

旅程。它不仅将更多对传媒感兴

趣的中国学生带到纽约、带到哥

伦比亚大学，让青年人对这个行

业有更加深切的认识；更是告诉

他们：实现梦想，需要有打破既

定条框的勇气与决心。是那些坚

持梦想的人，最终改变了我们的

社会。

在向梦想前行的路上

It officially started with a meeting at Bridge Cafe – as many things do. The idea of a media delegation to the United States had been floating around in occasional emails and loose conversations for many months, but it was that humid summer day on the rooftop of Bridge that PKU-Columbia Media Literacy Initiative was born.

B e i b e i a n d I b e g a n s h o o t i n g ideas back and forth and we were soon joined by Gavin, Derrick, Yang Chao and Wan Ma. In the beginning, it was an idea as much as it was an ideal. I t stemmed from vague concepts of bridging Chinese and American students for a better mutual understanding through media literacy. It was an opportunity for both sides of the globe to put on a different set of lens in viewing a subject that shapes all of our lives regardless of our acknowledgement – the media.

As I returned to the States, I i m m e d i a t e l y e x p a n d e d a n d mobilized the External Relations Division to begin work on MLI. With

the full support of the GCC board of directors, GCC Central and several GCC chapters, we slowly assembled the events on the itinerary and materialized the objectives to reach our goals and vision. It was at times difficult given our limited resources and plethora of tasks, but in retrospect, the preparations were more than worth it.

During the nine days of MLI, we all stepped into another world, filled with meaningful conversations, panels, forums, tours, visits, dinners and meetings. To hear from the delegates after a long day that they were tired but satisfied with the program’s progression brought an inner smile. The glamorous ideals that we set out with were being translated into real life experiences and interactions that were worth something. However small that something was, I felt both sides were able to take value – whether in a friendship, an idea or a new perspective – away from MLI 2009.

For me personally, this was the last project that I undertook as

Vice President of Global China Connection and it remains one that I am most proud of. We have accomplished much together and the memories will last a lifetime, but we all have a long way to go in our lives and our dreams. MLI 2009 may have been a spark to light new ideas or the fuel to keep us learning, but it is only the beginning. This is but the first year of the program and there is countless room for improvement to be made for the future. I hope we will be able to build upon what we have and support each other to continue learning and growing.

2008年“拉萨3·14打砸

抢烧事件”爆发以来，一

系列热点事件的发生给中国制造

了严重的国家形象危机。中国同

西方世界之间的误解加深，民众

间沟通缺乏平台。而在这场危机

中，担任全球舆论领袖的美国媒

体扮演着重要角色：部分知名媒

体对中国的报道带有刻板成见、

偏离客观事实，导致西方民众对

中国产生误解；另一方面，中国

本土媒体由于复杂的历史及现实

原因，未能在国际舞台上有力发

声，间接导致中西方的民间关系

一度陷入谷底。

大众传媒素来在国家形象塑

造中占有重要地位：恰当的传播

方式容易得到国际受众的认可，

有助于向外界展示一国的真实情

况，削弱虚假报道的影响力。然

而，中美两国国民缺乏对对方媒

体运作机制、受众实际需求的了

解，导致了中国媒体的报道影响

力弱、美国民众缺乏对中国的客

观认识等诸多不良后果。

在此背景之下，北京大学与

哥伦比亚大学的学生领袖联合到

一起，力图为中美民间关系的改

善、尤其是两国青年精英间的相

互理解与媒介素养的提高做出自

己的贡献。我们深信，两国青年

精英的对彼此认知的加深，对中

美关系的未来走向有着深远意

义。

MLI2009的主办方——《北

大环球家》是一本完全学生运作

的热点时事杂志；往期的封面故

事包括中国NGO势力的崛起、城

市流浪儿童的境遇考察、中国劳

工的生存状况，及亚裔移民及其

子女的生活实录等。

MLI2009的另一主办方——

全球中国联接（GCC），是全球

最大的中美学生交流会。GCC在

全球40余所知名大学拥有分部，

于2009年4月25日和7月18日分

别在哥伦比亚大学和北京大学

成功举办了“2009展望中国（A

Glimpse of China）会议”。

Marc Ambinder: Today’s media face a big challenge, that is, identity crisis among journalists. What, for whom, why are we doing? What it means to be a journalist?

如今的媒体从业者面临着一个巨大的“身份认同”危机：我们在做什么？我们在为谁工作？我们为什么这样做？-记者这个职业，到底意味着什么？

Core trade-off between the quantity of information and the quality of information.

作为一个好的记者，我们需要在信息的数量和质量之间寻找平衡。

Nicole Wang: Let reporters touch cameras. Why? To cut the cost and to survive in the change of media.

记者不应只是会写故事的人，他们还要懂得更多-比如新闻摄影。一方面，这可以节省报社雇佣摄影师的开支；另一方面，这也是时代对于“全能记者”需求的体现。

Lyndon Cao: Why journalist deserves such a low pay? To survive, to be able to provide two things: uniqueness and value. Uniqueness means to have insight; Value means not to be replaced by others.

为什么记者的工资普遍偏低？因为大多数记者并不能提供这两样东西：独到性与价值。独到性意味着不同于凡人的洞察力，价值则意味着不能被他人轻易替代。

Lyndon Cao: Why we spend money to print the paper out? Deliver it to the hand. Let people feel it.

在电子阅读的时代，我们为什么还要花钱印报纸？这是为了要把“纸质阅读”的快感生生不息地传递到阅读者手中。

Lyndon Cao: The change of media is a great chance for the young. If you are really good, you don’t need to wait a long time to succeed.

如今媒体的改变对于年轻人来说是一个绝好的机会。如果你真的优秀，你不用等上很久才能成功。

Robert Jervis: Walt Disney company will build the Disney land in Shanghai, which doesn’t mean anything politically. But it raises a question: how close Sino-US relations will be in 20-30 years?

迪斯尼要在上海建一个新乐园本身并没有什么政治意味。但这却引出了一个问题：（作为除美国本土外唯一一个拥有两个迪斯尼乐园的国家）中国和美国的关系在未来二三十年中，将会变得有多密切？

Martin Cherkes: China will find its place in the world.

中国最终会在世界上找出它的位置。

David Andelman: Chinese military, compared to US, is amazingly low, but it may be a force in the very long run.

从目前来看，中国的军事实力相对于美国来说还低得出奇；但从长远来讲，中国确实可能会成长为一个不容小觑的军事力量。

Lee Ridley: The Chinese inexpensive labor will be sustainable in a very long period of time. The workers are hard to go back to the farm, because they are obsessed in the city and continue migration to the city.

中国的廉价劳动力优势在长期来看是可持续的。这是因为农民工喜欢城市，他们不愿意回到农村，所以他们还会源源不断地涌向城市来。

Prof. David Klatell

David klatell Chair of International Studies and professor of Professional Practice at Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. He is a recognized expert on the development and management of journalism education and training programs.

Prof. Anya Schiffrin

Anya Schiffrin Acting Director of the International Media and Communications Program and an adjunct professor at SIPA. She spent 10 years working overseas as a journalist in Europe and Asia, writing for a number of different magazines and newspapers.

Q: What is the most common mistake that journalists always make?

记者最常犯的错误是什么？

A: First, they don’t fully understand the subjec t being discussed; Second, they don’t say exactly what they mean, so the public will get the wrong impression; third, they might write something to please the editors.

首先，记者对于自己要写的主题

常常不能了解透彻；其次，他们

的语言不够精准，导致读者会误

解他们想要表达的意思；第三，

记者有时会特意写迎合编辑的东

西。

Q: What’s the principles of asking good questions?

问好问题的原则是什么呢？

A: First, do not ask the questions simply reflect the face; second, creating silence and wait until the interviewee saying something; t h i r d , n e v e r o f f e r y o u r o w n position; forth, do not ask the most important questions at first or at last; finally, take notes when never necessary in order to make kind of atmosphere of reporting.

首先，不要问只是简单陈述事实

的问题；第二，在问出问题后要

保持安静，等待，等待被采访者

充分地回答你的问题，不要一直

插问；第三，永远不要说出你的

立场；第四，不要在一开始或者

最后问最重要的问题；最后，采

访中多做笔记，给被采访者创造

出一种“我说的话很重要，记者

在记录我的话”的感觉，这样被

采访者会受到鼓舞。

The responsibility of the journalists nowadays are to present the information in context, to try to tell interesting stories and motivate people to learn more, and to play a role as ”transmission” and ”transition” between public and experts.

如今记者的责任是提供信息、讲

有趣的故事、鼓励人们去了解更

多。记者在大众和专家之间扮演

着传输信息和解读术语的角色。

American journalism is in crisis now and so reporters are less likely to be brave to keep their integrity.

金融危机爆发后，美国媒体开始大幅度地裁员-也正是这样的危机，使得记者倾向于迎合市场，而变得不那么勇敢、失去了媒体应有的公允。

Journalists are afraid of making things worse by upsetting those in power. They have self censorship. Chinese reporters have told me they don't want to write companies in trouble."

很多时候记者不愿对某些事件进行报道，并不是因为惧怕外界压力，而是因为自我束缚。有中国的记者告诉我，他们不愿意报道公司的丑闻，因为害怕会得罪人，即使那些公司并不能把他们怎么样。

Journalist's job is to give space to serious critics, to sort through noise, to give advices to the society and to learn about the experiences of other countries.

记者在这个时代有着多重使命：他们要学会发出批判性的声音，

要帮助公众撇除'噪声'、认识真相，他们要能够对社会的发展给出建议，并且学会从他国借鉴经验。

No need to be randomly skeptical o r c o n f ro n t a t i o n a l . T h a t h a s nothing to do with real journalism."

但是记者也不应该进行盲目的批判，那并不是真正好的媒体人应该做的事情。

Nowadays, most Americans’ views about China: It’s a rapidly rising countr y ; I t wi l l chal lenge US position in the future. This view is so because of media.

如今，大多数美国人对中国的认识是：这是一个高速发展的国家，它将会挑战美国的国际地位。美国人的这种认识基本上是媒体所致。

Why journalism is critical? First, people aren’t interested in reading about “ever ything went wel l ” thing. Positive news is very limited. Second, media’s roles are: a check on power, a device for helping, a judgment of right or wrong, and a remedy of injustice.

为什么新闻学的核心是批判性的？这是因为：首先，大众对顺利进行、正常发生的事件不怎么感兴趣，这就导致西方媒体对正面新闻的报道非常有限。第二，媒体在社会中应该扮演一个权力监督者、弱势扶助者、价值评判者和缺陷修复者的角色。

The society tends to change when individuals act on their personal level on behalf of change. You don’t have to a revolutionary. Begin to think what we need. What rights we want to have and take actions.

当公众的改变开始累积时，这个社会就会逐渐发生大的变革。你无须刻意去当一个革命者-只须思考：你想要什么，你需要什么样的权利并为争取这样的权利采取行动即可。

Pr i n t e d N e w Yo r k T i m e s w i l l continue in a long time, because people are rich in NY, old people like printed paper.

尽管有新媒体的竞争压力，《纽约时报》的纸版还会持续很长一段时间。这是因为纽约人有钱印报纸（笑），而且像我这样的老年人也喜欢读报的感觉。

If you want to know the news, it’s not a thing. But if you don’t want to, then you don’t have to, it ’s dangerous.

人想读新闻是很自然的事情。但如果你不想读，便没有一个媒体环境来“强迫”你了解新近发生了什么，这样的社会就危险了。

What’s New York Times’ strategy? Hire the excellent, but maybe not enough. We need to decide what to cover and what not to.

《纽约时报》击败对手的策略是什么？我们会雇佣最杰出的人。但也许这还不够，我们需要决定报道什么、不报道什么。

S h o u l d w e c h a r g e o n - l i n e ? Inevitably, we will. We need to figure out the balance. NY Times will become multi-media.

《纽约时报》的电子版应该收费吗？应该说最终我们会收。但在这之前我们需要找到一个平衡，一个在读者权益与报社权益之间的平衡。《纽约时报》最终会采用多媒体的形式。

如果说一个人从一

个陌生的环境中可

以收获些什么，我

觉得其中最为宝贵

的不外乎见闻、知

识与愉悦的心情。

第一次到了哥伦比亚大学，

给我的感觉是校园优美，学生干

练。不讳言地说，很多美国大学

生似乎要比中国大学生更加成

熟，也许是因为他们生长在一个

没有象牙塔概念的社会，也许是

因为他们都更加渴望展现自己。

到了纽约的第一大见闻就是见到

了一群GCC这样干练的朋友，

玩笑狂欢的时候是忘情投入，谈

论协调的时候是紧张细致，真的

让我从中收获很多。短短几日的

行程中，我们到过联合国，到过

《纽约时报》总部，到了纽约的

现代艺术博物馆和大都会博物

馆。这些地方给我留下的回忆不

是一些照片，而是一种态度。从

为了世界的福祉与发展到各国文

化的精粹交融展示，让我体会到

了纽约的精神。

知识是我们此行的目的，知

识可以从聆听中得来，也可以从

激辩中获取。在纽约的时日，我

们有很多的讨论与讲座。尽管大

家观点不一，有时甚至相左，但

是各种知识的交融还是给了我们

一个中美关系与媒体的大概轮

廓。还记得我们在《纽约时报》

的总部被问及中国现状及未来时

刻的言语交锋，还记得我们在小

组讨论的时候几乎到了面红耳赤

的辩论，还记得我们在了解联合

国历史时刻的认真聆听，这一

切，的的确确让我们获得了渴望

的知识；但更重要的是，它教会

了我们如何去学习知识，如何去

以一种谦虚谨慎和令人信服的方

式去表达我们的观点，以及用同

样谦虚谨慎的方式去探索和倾听

我们的未知。

愉悦让我们永远存有

MLI2009的记忆。在短短的9天

中，我们收获了无与伦比的友

谊，我们与GCC伙伴之间的，与

其他北大代表之间的。

们这些有志于投身媒体工作的学

生，提供了深入的专业训练和广

泛的人脉关系网络。对于未来将

成为记者的我来说，这无疑是个

极为宝贵的经验。

活动给了我一个难得的机会

去接触新鲜的观点和媒体文化。

我们在活动中与当今最具影响力

的美国媒体人和学者进行深入的

交流，了解了美国对媒体和中美

关系的观点，认识了对方，也间

接更清晰地重新认识了自己。

MLI安排的一系列媒体相关活动

也十分集中精简，我们在短短的

九天里，除了与许多资深的学者

和媒体从业员交流，还参访了

《纽约时报》总部以及NBC等权

威媒体机构，学到的宝贵知识，

都是课堂和教材绝对无法能满足

的。

不过，最美丽的回忆，或许

是在活动中遇到的朋友们。一同

前行的北大同学都对媒体事业抱

有极大的热忱，与出色的哥伦比

亚大学学生朝夕相处，也让我结

识了许多新朋友，扩大社交圈

子。这些宝贵的友谊与收获的经

验一样，始于MLI但绝对不止于

MLI。

从JFK机场到首都

国际机场，需要

1 3 个小时的长途

飞行。为了对抗时

差，无论姿势多么

狰狞，觉总是要睡的。而我评价

一次长途旅行是否有意义并且愉

快的重要标准之一，便是在飞机

上朦胧之中的梦境。飞去纽约的

时候一片混乱，脑海中满是未竟

的申请材料，几乎没上过的课要

期中考试，以及五光十色的纽约

城。归乡之时，不但睡得更加深

沉，梦也变得清晰如画，满溢着

与一群志同道合之人共同做事的

幸福和成就感，九天中积攒下来

的各种八卦与深厚情谊，以及愈

发强烈的哥大梦想。

对于一个从小喜爱传媒行业

的人如我，能够参加这样一个项

目，无疑是如获至宝。哥伦比亚

大学是传媒人心中的圣地，此话

不假。John Coatsworth, Anya

Schiffrin, Howard French…这些

在网页上、电视里、报刊著作中

久仰了的人物，如今就活生生地

坐在面前，同你亲切交谈，解惑

答疑。哪怕只是学术地追追星，

这些名字也已足够令人歆羡，更

何况对于正在申请中的我。能够

拓展这份人脉，在这座一年后可

能每日浸润其中的校园中度过九

天，已经是我此行最大的收获。

而两场panel discussion上的重量

级嘉宾，以及“同僚”们热烈的

思维碰撞，亦足够细细回味。

混到了大四，参加了各种学

生国际交流项目，也有了不少

感慨。作为一个 “ 新生儿 ” ，

MLI2009的活力、资源和定位都

非常出色——更何况它是一个只

有四个人的团队运作起来的。无

论它有怎样的瑕疵都无所谓，这

种强大的执行力和勇气足以令人

佩服。

MLI让我高兴的是

与纽约为伴。在

时代广场感受繁

华，在大都会博物

馆中寻找梵高的

真迹，在现代艺术博物馆中聆听

Sonic youth，追溯一个时代，地

标性的自由女神，讲述一段移民

史。不过其中最熟悉的，还属我

们所在的哥伦比亚大学了。在这

里，Howard French教授讲到记

者应该具有的探索本性，名片上

第一称谓是life explorer 的Nicole

Wang用活力和热情感染我们。新

闻系主任亲自为我们介绍学科设

置和自己对新闻学的理解。

MLI让我高兴的是与GCC为

伴。讨论的时候总是能感受到

GCC成员对国际经济和政治问题

的深度关切，有时候大家会有不

同见解，但观点碰撞产生的火花

总能给我们新的启发。提到GCC

成员，总是有很多话想说：惊讶

于主席Gavin对中国、对中文的了

解，还有Keith对行程和论坛形式

的周密安排，让大家在最大程度

上充实自己。一路上，GCC成员

给予了我们太多的帮助。特别感

动的一点是我们的dorm host，为

了不打扰我们，Henry一大早在我

们的门缝中塞进小纸条，让我们

起来后去他那里拿早餐。在GCC

成员的悉心关照下，我们迅速地

融入了纽约生活。脑中又浮现出

我们依依惜别时的情景，现在

还是期待我们在北京的再次团聚

吧！

MLI让我体会到多元化交流

的重要性，交流可以引发更深层

次的思考。希望自己的身边能够

越来越多地涌现出不同的交流网

络，而自己也能在其中贡献一份

力量。

旅行的意义，在于

见识不同的风景。

此次远渡重洋的异

国之旅归来，收获

的是满满的行囊。


于是，与其说是归来，不如说是

出发。

想凭短短的十天去了解一个

国家，无疑是痴人说梦。何况这

个大洋彼岸的国度，是一个无比

复杂而多面的谜题，在各种标签

搭成的幻象下，我们曾自以为是

地认为掌握了它的本质，但却与

真实渐行渐远。而当双脚真正踏

上它的土地，虽然只有一番浮光

掠影的游历，但确实能感悟到

它繁华表象之后细节间的点滴真

实。

无论是国际交流，还是大众

媒体，有一点是相同的——二者

都是我们认识世界的方式——我

们的世界，他们的世界，或者同

一个世界。既然这个世界是复杂

的，既然每个人的观察都是有限

的，误解与虚幻难免存在。而复

杂的世界在单个的视野里被或大

或小的局限，在许许多多的单个

视野里，也许就能拼图出它本来

的模样。通过交流，了解了更过

别人视野里的世界，它的全景或

许也就会逐渐清晰。更好的认识

世界。这也是此行，最大的收获

之一。

难忘的是GCC热情而周详的

招待，北京大学三位Staff辛勤的

付出，还有我们整个团队融洽的

氛围。能与有肝胆人共事，是一

件多么幸运的事。

这只是个开始，相信MLI会

继续它的旅程。很荣幸能够成为

它曾经的一分子，见证这一段美

妙的好时光。我们还在前行，在

拓宽的眼界中认识世界，并成为

它的一部分。

MLI作为一个学术

水平相当高的项

目，给我带来的学

术上的提高是非

常大的。在去美

国前，我阅读了大量的材料，积

累了很多关于中美关系和中美媒

体运作的专业知识。我还查找了

美国在西藏、台湾问题上的相关

报道。在纽约期间，会见知名教

授和传媒界的前辈，交流当中都

有很多的领悟。印象尤其深刻的

是和哥大新闻学院前教务长David

Klatell教授的交流——他对于媒体

道德的观点、传媒从业者常犯错

误的见解等，都令我受益匪浅。

此外，通过9天与GCC成员

的朝夕相处，我们也讨论了很多

与MLI主题相关的问题，了解了

很多美国社会和人民意识形态的

现状。那些很有趣的探讨实在无

法意义列举，这些都是在国内很

少能从书本、从新闻上全面了解

的。值得一提的还有那次精彩的

北大-哥大小型自由辩论会，虽

然大家讨论得热火朝天，有很多

不同的意见，但是我认为，中美

大学生能够有这样开放、愿意聆

听、愿意相互理解的意愿坐在一

起，已经显示出未来中美关系一

定会有良好的发展方向。

在MLI结束后，我很欣喜地

发现自己有了一些变化。记得在

项目第二天的panel discussion前

后，很多同学都积极地跟嘉宾、

GCC的成员和哥伦比亚的学生们

交流，而我却有点小拘谨，总是

插不上话。后来，在见了很多教

授、传媒前辈、UN官员等纽约市

的精英后，我逐渐能够去争取机

会表达自己的思想。

通过MLI，我真切的体会到

很多机会是要自己主动争取的。

如果自己不时刻准备抓住机会，

永远不会有机会直接来敲自己的

房间。MLI培养了我积极融入活

动进程、主动表达自己想法的意

识。这是对今后发展和成长至关

重要的经验。

对我的意义很

大。有时候panel

discussion上教授

的一两句话或者一

个不经意的小瞬间就会让我萌生

一些思考和想法。正因为此行，

我对新闻行业又有了新的认识。

到底什么是记者的责任？如何与

采访对象沟通交流？有没有真正

的新闻自由？商业化的运作对媒

体是坏是好？如何做出《纽约时

报》那样专业的报道？如何确定

自己的新闻理想并且付诸实践？

这十天以来，好多个关于新闻的

问题在脑海里打转，有的想出了

所以然，有的到现在为止还是问

号。不过值得欣慰的是，因为

MLI，才能让自己一下子有了这

么多“为什么”。

“传媒”是我们这次活动的

主题，而在主题之外，也有让我

意想不到的收获。出国参加交流

项目已经不是第一次，外国的朋

友也很多，但是我第一次如此大

规模的接触GCC这样一群特殊的

人：我们有着不同的文化背景，

却可以用中文或是英文交流顺

畅；我们有着相同的文化背景，

却从小生长在完全不同的环境；

我们曾经有着一样的经历，但最

终在18岁那一年选择了不同的道

路……我一直很好奇，中国为什

么会吸引美国学生，而对于GCC

组织里的中国人或是ABC\CBC，

我也很好奇自己和他们到底有什

么不一样。慢慢地我意识到，也

许真的是不同环境决定了我们所

持有的价值观不同，看问题的角

度不同，我们的谈话中总有些冲

突很难避免。但是我也发现，有

些血脉相承的东西不会被抹去，

比如中国人一向的踏实、严谨和

谦虚。从GCC的成员身上，我们

每个人都学到了很多；而在我看

来更重要的是，通过他们，我们

更好地认识了自己。

谢谢这十天难忘的经历。

这是梁启超先生在《新大陆

游记》中的句子。走出肯尼迪机

场的时候，我的脑海中翻腾着这

几句话，心中却没有丝毫激荡。

自启超先生为世界大风浪所簸

荡、冲激、驱遣而不得不成为世

界人的年代，已有百余年了。诚

然现在沪港的豪华已经可以和纽

约媲美，中国的巨变令我们开始

主动将自己介绍给世界。GCC成

员谈吐时眼神中对中国的热爱，

教授们演讲涉及中国时的神采奕

奕——大风浪真已远去？

似乎路还很长。

曼哈顿9天，我们小心翼翼地

去体悟美国的媒体制度，那些在

繁华背后被忽略的基础。即使做

了充分心理准备，当媒体界人士

向我们表示批判是西方媒体的根

本，向我们展现他们对奥巴马的

讥讽，散发出那股遗世独立的傲

慢与敏锐的时候，思维随同心灵

在那言语中颠簸而无处所往。

路真的还很长。

作为 M L I 的一名

staff，从项目最初

筹备到代表招募，

从签证办理到登机

启程，我参与并见

证了一个崭新项目创立的全部流

程。终于，MLI2009从无到有，

从了无头须到初现雏形，我们这

些MLI首届参与者共同踏上了美

利坚的土地。

这是一次学术之旅，媒体研

讨会”A snapshot of American

media”和中美关系研讨会”U.

S.-China Relations: 2009 and

Beyond”中重量级的嘉宾发言

让我们获益匪浅。在学生的自由

辩论中，我们和哥大学生针对同

一热点的充分讨论更是使我们了

解了彼此的观点。从哥大学生的

问题中，我能感受到他们对中国

的关注与思考。与哥大新闻学院

（Journalism School）和国际关

系与公共事务学院（SIPA）教授

的接触解开了我们心中的疑惑，

使我们对哥大，这所常春藤名校

的教学有了更进一步的了解。

这还是一次文化之旅。忘不

了自由女神像前高高跃起的我

们，忘不了现代艺术博物馆里一

件件抽象的作品，忘不了大都会

博物馆售票员指着我北京大学

的学生证，向我确认“(Peking

University is) Harvard in China,

right?”同样忘不了极尽繁华的

时代广场，忘不了洛克菲勒中心

那一面面随风飘动的星条旗，忘

不了唐人街带给我的那种置身中

国的错觉……旅行的意义不仅在

于风景，更在于同行的人。通过

MIL2009结识的各种牛人以及与

哥大同学结下的友谊也将成为我

们一生的财富。

我并不很是关心我

们在一起做什么，

我关心的是我们在

一起。

当我以这句话

作为整个项目的介绍时，所看到

的不是那些眼前闪过的一幅幅图

画，而是一个个鲜活的脸。他们

以各种方式在我的生命中刻下了

印记。多少年后，我会依然记起

的除了美国缱绻的风景，还有那

些人，那些话。

当蓓蓓姐问我是否愿意参加

这个项目的筹备时，我欣然答

应。其原因不仅仅是完成一个去

美国的愿望，更重要的是和那些

处于各自事业巅峰的人去交流，

去扩大视野。

那个夏天我一直在做一件有

意义的事情，那就是成长。MLI

就像一只手，将世界摊平了给我

看，让我亲身感受到多元世界

的真实存在性；MLI就像一条丝

带，将甚至两个月之前都还不曾

认识的人连接在一起，在这条丝

带上，布满了思想的冲撞与火

花；MLI就像一次盛大的晚会，

这里有顶尖却和善的教授，有阅

历丰富的编辑，有GCC的那些与

我们有着相仿年龄却有着迥异的

思维的青年人，有那些通过面试

并出色表现的代表，有着专业而

严谨的蓓蓓姐和杨超姐。

既然时间依然流动，那MLI

就会依然生动而活跃的存在着。

因为她的背后是一群人，他们热

情、友好、合作、阳光，珍重在

生命中出现的所有人。

动笔之前便可以想

见，我的这篇短文

或许是所有人——

包括工作人员与代

表中带着最多遗憾

的。原因非常简单，我显然错过

了一次精彩的旅行，一次注定难

忘的经历。

当我的朋友、同事们在哥伦

比亚大学中激烈地就某个媒体问

题进行学术辩论的时候，我正在

墨尔本飞利浦岛的海风中window

shopping。那是一种非常微妙的

感受，作为MLI2009最早加入的

项目的工作人员，最后反而在时

间冲突的两场异国旅行中选择了

自己没有投入多少心力的那个。

无论是选择了哪个，都不是一种

错误，然而在旅程结束时，的确

也该回想一下当初选择的原因。

从最开始只有两个人、到四

个人的最终团队，伙伴逐一加

入，但工作的节奏却也不断加

紧，到了最后阶段，用马不停蹄

来形容毫不为过。而在这个过程

中，这个我原本认为再了解不过

的项目却一再突破我原本的认

识，给我以惊喜。除了组织上的

准备外，学术准备的分量之重是

我们极鲜明的特征——原以为，

这样一个全凭学生之力、又是毫

无基础刚刚破土的项目，能够成

行便是极大的成功，学术探讨不

过是一种点缀。

但MLI证明了它并非如此，

它配得上自己的名字和定位，是

真正的关于传媒领域专业而学术

的一次严肃体验，是只给充分准

备、并且有与它能够般配的才

智、又愿意为之充分投入的人设

置的。而我，当时站在大三的开

端，带着满心的焦虑与不安，更

需要的或许是一次散心；明年那

个时候，如果可以像其他代表一

样坚定而勇敢，我会再次选择同

MLI在一起。

From the standpoint of Global China Connection, MLI was an

incredible experience of course because of the interaction with the wonderful PKU delegates and the opportunities to participate i n t h e v a r i o u s a c t i v i t i e s a n d excursions. Furthermore, while delegations like these take hundreds of hours of preparation and extraordinary commitments by all involved, it is just that mutual effort that makes them wor thwhile. Ever ything from the willingness to send out initial lengthy, tedious emails to the final heart-felt farewells are symbols that something much more important than a simple trip to the United States took place. MLI was an unforgettable experience not just for its itinerary, but for the discussions and relationships shared between participants; the smiles, laughter, and occasionally, even tears that bind all those who participated together. To our new MLI friends, we wish you all the best, and look forward to our next meeting, and to all those interested in participating in the future, GCC welcomes you and hopes to see you soon.

leaders from other areas of the world and to participate in cross-cultural dialogue with the aim of understanding and potentially solving important issues in finance, business, politics, and international relations, among others. While the program itself greatly benefits those who participate, the long-l a s t i n g c o n n e c t i o n s f o r m e d d u r i n g t h e p r o g r a m a r e t h e essential reason why delegations are painstakingly planned. Each participant leaves not only with knowledge gleaned from panels with professors and discussions with fellow delegates and students, but also with fr iendships and ties that will continue to grow in the future. The power of an i n t e r c o n n e c t e d n e t w o r k o f dedicated and ambitious people is the principle upon which GCC was founded, the source of the o r g a n i z a t i o n s r a p i d g r o w t h , and the reason why GCC wi l l continue to succeed in the future. I wi l l dedicate the success of t h i s p a r t i c u l a r p r o g r a m , t h e Media Literacy Initiative 2009, to leadership from both sides ( p a r t i c u l a r l y K e i t h M i a o a n d Angela Beibei Bao), the dedication of the PKU students who put f o r t h t h e i r b e s t t h r o u g h o u t t h e j e t l a g a n d d e m a n d i n g itinerary, the friendliness of GCC representatives who attended events with the delegates and developed relationships with them,

and the potential of innovative organizations like GCC to bring together the world. At the end of the day, it is the interactions between people that define a program, not its busy itinerary, so everyone involved in MLI 2009 should feel proud for making it a success. I for one know that it has left us feeling confident for future programs and anticipating for future opportunities to meet and collaborate.

In regard to GCC’s objectives, the MLI was a success.

In terms of building bridges between China and the international community, the MLI achieved this on multiple levels. First, it set the foundations for a long-lasting and fruitful partnership between two organizations—Global China Connection and the Peking Globalist . Second, the acquaintances made over the course of a week between the delegates and their hosts are a first step toward many future fr iendships. Third, the Peking University students were exposed to not only GCC members, but also students from various universities, their own alumni in the United States, distinguished professors a n d p r o f e s s i o n a l s , a m o n g others. Finally, this delegation is contributes to the larger, growing trend of cultural and ideological exchange between China and the United States.

In addition, the MLI succeeded i n i n c re a s i n g awa re n e s s a n d deepening understanding of various US-China related topics, with specific focus on journalism and media. This was effectively accomplished through an array

o f e x c i t i n g e v e n t s — p a n e l s , d i s c u s s i o n s , l e c t u r e s , t o u r s , and dinners with members of organizations such as CUCSSA and the PKU alumni association in New York. Furthermore, it was a week of many firsts—the first time to visit the United States, for example—for the delegates. Likewise, it was a week of many firsts for me—in particular, my first visit to the UN and to NBC. I hope that the diversity and depth of the events made the delegation as enjoyable and educational for the Peking University students as it has for me.

Finally, the MLI is an exemplary show of the initiative, leadership, and dedication. Without the hard work and creative efforts of GCC members and PKU delegates, the MLI would not have been a success. As such, it is both a testament of past achievements and an indicator of greater things to come in the future.

T h e M L I h a s accomplished the GCC mission from several directions. S t u d e n t s f r o m

China were given opportunities to explore the American culture, media, and other aspects that are

often times on the other end of the spectrum from China. However, the most important accomplishment of MLI, in my view, is the creation of a platform to building lasting friendships between individuals of completely different backgrounds. A s G CC i s a l re a d y d i ve r s e i n the composition of members - Asian Americans, immigrants, international students - the MLI delegation forges yet another layer of diversity in our experience as an organization. Together, we left our footprints in many places in New York City where even local GCC members have never been before. Indeed it was a memorable experience for the delegates, the GCC members, and much more so the key organizers. I sincerely hope that we will stay connected and extend our helping arms toward each other in the future, allowing the MLI delegation to echo our mission statement - "Building relationships that will change the world."

于11月1日在曼哈顿中城举行晚

宴，欢迎参加由全球中国连接组

织的北京大学学生代表团。11位

北京大学学生代表以及全球中国

连接组织人员出席了晚宴，与北

大纽约校友会的代表交流。

参加此次活动的北大学生代

表都是在校的本科生，他们来自

不同的院系，但对国际融合与交

流都有浓厚的兴趣。他们在北大

经过竞争激烈的筛选脱颖而出，

代表北京大学赴纽约进行为期两

周的参观访问。晚宴当天他们刚

刚结束一天紧张的日程安排，些

许的疲劳丝毫没有影响他们与纽
