Who or what does the MLC,2006 apply to?

• Who or what does the MLC, 2006 apply to?

• Article II - Seafarers - all persons working on a ship (to which the Convention

applies) - Ships - all ships, ordinarily engaged in commercial activities except

for:– ships exclusively in inland waters, etc;– ships engaged in fishing etc;– warships and ships of traditional build.

- Shipowner - the owner of the ship or another organization or person that has assumed the responsibility for the operation of the ship, e.g. manager, agent, bareboat charterer

Flexibilities under the MLC,2006

bargaining; - elimination of forced labour; - effective abolition of child labour; - elimination of discrimination in respect of

employment and occupation.
