Mitsubishi I-MiEV

Isolation Procedure

Page 2: Mitsubishi I-Miev isolation procedure.pptx

• Fully electric vehicles present risks to the repairing technician. Additional equipment and PPE will be required, together with specialist training for safe

handling.

• Correct powering down of the high voltage system will require compliance with a specific method.

• Failure to do so could expose the technician to high voltage and risk of death.

Precautions

Page 3: Mitsubishi I-Miev isolation procedure.pptx

High Voltage Battery Disconnection

• Work on the High Voltage system must only be performed by specialist personnel who are aware of the safety instructions and precautions to be taken.

• High Voltage insulated gloves and tools must be used to carry out any work on High Voltage system components.

All work must be carried out in line with current Health and Safety regulations.

Safety Precautions

Before working on any part of the high voltage system be sure to have the following:

• Insulating gloves• Leather gloves• Face mask/ visor• Insulated tools• High voltage multi-meter(cat 4 calibrated and working)• Insulating bags• Warning notices/barriers(vehicle and work location)• Locking device

Page 5: Mitsubishi I-Miev isolation procedure.pptx

The Isolation and Lock out procedure should be carried out prior to carrying out repairs or touching:

1. Vehicle High Voltage Parts

2. Vehicle High Voltage Harness or Connections

Lock Out Procedure

Lockout is a safety procedure intended to protect persons working on electric vehicles from accidents and from any inadvertent appearance or reappearance of voltage on the

vehicle.

Page 6: Mitsubishi I-Miev isolation procedure.pptx

1.Pre Checks• Identify that you are working on the correct vehicle(reg. No./chassis no.)

• Confirm that the vehicle is not on charge

• Place safety notices on the vehicle and barriers around work area if required.

• Put on PPE ready to start isolation procedure

Note: All metal or conductive objects must be removed from

your person or insulated to prevent accidental contact with live conductors or components

Page 7: Mitsubishi I-Miev isolation procedure.pptx

2.

• Switch off ignition and wait 1 minute

• Check that no power consumers are switched on

• Using a multi meter check for 12v only at the auxiliary battery

Page 8: Mitsubishi I-Miev isolation procedure.pptx

3.• Disconnect auxiliary battery and wait 5 minutes

• Secure the positive lead with an insulated bag with a warning label attached

Page 9: Mitsubishi I-Miev isolation procedure.pptx

4.• Slide LH front seat forward or remove

• Remove covering material from over service plug(secured by velcro- not shown in picture)

• Remove service cover plug

Page 10: Mitsubishi I-Miev isolation procedure.pptx

5.• Remove service plug and securely lock away with vehicle key to prevent accidental reinsertion

• Insulate plug connection on the high voltage battery and attach warning label

Page 11: Mitsubishi I-Miev isolation procedure.pptx

6.• Remove high voltage motor cover(situated in boot)

Page 12: Mitsubishi I-Miev isolation procedure.pptx

7.• Remove the service access panel on the top of the inverter

• Rubber weather seal must be renewed when cover is refitted

Page 13: Mitsubishi I-Miev isolation procedure.pptx

8.• Check for 0 Volts at terminals illustrated using a high voltage multi meter to ensure the high-voltage system is fully isolated• Multi meter should be Category 4 and checked it is working correctly prior to this check

Page 14: Mitsubishi I-Miev isolation procedure.pptx

9.• Disconnect high voltage cables to inverter(as illustrated)and secure in an insulated bag with warning labels attached

• The vehicle should now be isolated and safe to carry out any further repairs

• Any components to be worked on should be checked also for 0 Volts before removal as close to the component as possible

Page 15: Mitsubishi I-Miev isolation procedure.pptx

10. Re-instatement

• Re-instatement is the reversal of the isolation procedure

After vehicle has been re-instated back to pre isolation condition the following checks must be made to ensure the vehicles safety.

• An insulation test of the cables must be carried out after they have been refitted• Always ensure that the test equipment is in good working order immediately before and after each check• Always ensure that the correct CPE and PPE is used

It is strictly prohibited to check for the absence of voltage or potential equalisation without using the correct equipment,

CPE and PPE which is designed for this purpose.
