The primary mission of the team is to plan and carry out a LODD funeral. Also to provide assistance and comfort to the family and department and help with filing PSOB and other benefits.

Mission

Page 4: Missouri Law Enforcement Funeral Assistance Team Overview.

The state of Missouri has experienced over 650 line of duty

deaths.The state of Kansas has

experienced over 250 line of duty deaths.

Page 5: Missouri Law Enforcement Funeral Assistance Team Overview.

These are only a few of the dozens of officers killed in our state in the past ten years.

Page 6: Missouri Law Enforcement Funeral Assistance Team Overview.

It is an unfortunate reality that officers are killed in the line of

duty.

Page 7: Missouri Law Enforcement Funeral Assistance Team Overview.

Some agencies have the resources to handle these

untimely deaths….

..most do not

Page 8: Missouri Law Enforcement Funeral Assistance Team Overview.

The team was developed in March, 2008 after several

officers were killed in the line of duty in Missouri the previous month. It became obvious that agencies often need help when

such tragic events occur.

Page 9: Missouri Law Enforcement Funeral Assistance Team Overview.

The Missouri Law Enforcement Funeral Assistance Team is a resource that makes itself available to departments who have been stricken with a loss. Team members are trainedin many aspects.

Purpose

Page 10: Missouri Law Enforcement Funeral Assistance Team Overview.

The team is focused on bringing together and utilizing existing resources. The team has not created, for example, its own Critical Incident Stress Debriefing Teams. Instead we have developed resource lists, and call upon established professionals to assist as needed. The list of resources continues to grow.

Training- The National Office of COPS has several training opportunities

available, including the “Traumas in Law Enforcement” course which members have attended and planning on more attending

- The Missouri Fire Service Funeral Assistance Team has allowed our team members to attend their “Taking Care of Our Own” course

- Several of the Honor Guards we work with have been through funeral specific training and we plan on sending more to training or hosting it in Missouri

- Team only training to educate those that have not attended training or taken part in a LODD funeral
